Discover This New Uncharted 2 Cut Scene

@the7k: I don't recall where I remember this from but as I understand it, the Valley is a point where the mind can no longer determine what it is experiencing as real or not real. Not only a visual experience but the interaction of the world. Such an event is believed to make a person actually feel uncomfortable with the reality they are experiencing when they first encounter like seeing a 3d movie for the first time.

I am extremely impressed by this trailer! Currently I'm poised in a position to choose between purchasing a 360 or a PS3 and the Uncharted franchise has a huge amount of clout in this decision.

Having watched this may tip the scales for me.

What a fantastic trailer, and all without so much as a single gunshot or explosion. The story, animation and fantastic voice acting were what I and so many people loved most about the first and it's good to see they're improving them all in the sequel! Phenomenal.

@Raziel: I hear ya. Also the fact that Uncharted 1 has trophy support (unlike Assassin's Creed) makes it all the more appealing to me. Trophies really DO affect my desicion of wether or not I'm gonna buy a game.

I was expecting Sullivan to do that all the way through the first game... it was a nice surprise to be proven wrong, and just speaks volumes for the depth of the characters insofar as you can't immediately jump to conclusions as to their intentions!

@Bialia: I actually liked the transformed conquistadors at the end. It brought new gameplay when everything else was duck cover and shoot. It added an air of mystery on an otherwise ancient artifact. I think people who just passed them off as random zombies didn't really appreciate them for what they were intended.

@Bialia: Zombie things were fine, they were explained in a manner that they weren't just random enemies attacking you for no apparent reason. At least...I hope you watched the reel to reel. The only weak point of the first game I felt was the final area - mostly for how it played.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is one of my most played Single player PS3 titles. With It's amazing locales, likeable characters and it's cheesingly good storyline, It holds a special place in my Gamers Soul. This cutscene has all the right hooks. Acting, Expressions, and Chemistry. If this is any indication of the Uncharted 2 Storyline, this one will knock the pants of of Drakes Fortune!

@Creasy: I'm curious as to what your dictionary defines as boring. The first Uncharted was a perfect storm of gaming, with great story, action, and pacing. Everything I've seen so far shows me that the new game will meet or exceed my experience with the first game. On a side note, I wish I was goddamn strong enough to NOT press play on this clip and save it for the actual game. But I'm not... And it was awesome.

Every time I see something new for this game, it makes me wish it was fall already. All the characters seem so much smoother this time around, walking and talking seems more natural than the first, and the first was excellent. Really glad Elena's back, she looks much better in this iteration, hopefully she sticks around for the third game.

@the7k: I think the idea behind the article boils down to the fact that there is a spot when graphics become nearly realistic that we react negatively to them on some level. They are so close to real yet there is something there that sparks the "Thats not human!" reflex. The same one that tipped us off to The Visitors in V :)

finally a game which surpasses the animations of Indigo Prophecy (which until now had the best ones ever). Awesome. The gameplay is boring as hell... but still I loved the first one... since it was one of the veeeer few games out there which was actually staged great.

@QualityJeverage: It's true, the animation is astounding. I also love the art style of these games. The colour really pops with the intense saturation. It just looks fantastic. Story looks like it will drag you in again too.

@bobtheduck: Where do you get this idea that Pixar's character rigging is awful? I don't see how you could judge the rigs just by watching the animation unless it had clear flaws, like tearing or crazy stretching or something. A bad rig would be a limiting factor in the animation and I doubt Pixar animators are limited... My assumption would be that Pixar would hire some of the best riggers in the industry, in the same way that they hire only the best animators. So, what specifically leads you to believe that their rigs are atrocious?

@QualityJeverage: Well, Naughty Dog absolutely lifts motion capture to the next level. watching the behind the scenes from Uncharted 1, it's obvious they did the MC with acting again, and it works beautifully. You cant do this without motion capture

@Witzbold: Yeah. I don't think I'd need to edit past 15 minutes on here, anyhow... Though... I probably WILL want to edit embarassing stuff eventually. @MarioG. No, I'm not. Pixar has a great and very specific style, but their rigs are atrocious. I was actually a bit put off watching Up for this reason (though the movie was incredible and I recommend it to absolutely everyone) This is MUCH MUCH better than their rigs. Maybe you just don't know what a character rig is, otherwise I doubt you'd really disagree with me or accuse me of being affected by chemicals. They also do better rigs than many SFX teams for live action movies. Not all (Lord of the rings movies come to mind for ones that are way beyond what games can do ATM) but many. How the hell do you put in line breaks in this new system? Though, I'd prefer editing to line breaks if it came down to it.

@the7k: Uncanny Valley can mainly come from where the people look extremely lifelike but miss one vital component, the soul. Normally it's the eyes that give it away, but bad animation can give that little hint it's not real. Nuaghty Dog have the skill of making it look good and lifelike. Heavy Rain has possible huge issues waiting for it, but for now it looks okay. Heres a robot example for you (dunno if it works, at least I knew how to put images on the old system)

@Raziel: As flattering as your gesture is, you are not the first to confess their love for me in an open forum. The most magnificent gesture of affection towards me was by a mongolian prince underneath a blood moon eclipse which is a magnificent celestial oddity which only happens every decade or so. Being the open person I am, I am not the type to decline any offers of marriage or accept them, but rather keep open as many doors as possible. Was it the shimmer reflected of my hump underneath the blood moon which attracted you?

@Bialia: The "valley" in question is a dip in a proposed graph of the positivity of human reaction as a function of a robot's lifelikeness. (enter key) I'm not sure exactly what this means - I understand the whole 'revulsion at the almost real', but that revulsion only happens because you can tell it is fake, right? Wouldn't that then be a design flaw? If your disbelief was always suspended, wouldn't there then be no uncanny valley? (enter key) Basically, I always seemed to hear uncanny valley as being referred to (when talking about visual works of fiction) as a negative - as the point in which your suspension of disbelief is broken. Is this correct? The Wikipedia article gives me a slight idea, but its still all about robotics, not its use in popular media.

@the7k: Yeah what Naughty Dog does is what Pixar and other animation studios have been able to do. They create just a slight hint of non-realism, and your able to be immersed. However I do think that Pixar has yet to do this with human characters as they still look very cartoonish.

@Bialia: Totally. I was really peeved when they introduce this stereotypically sexy Australian woman when they already had one of the strongest female leads in gaming. I was very, very glad to see Elena's return.

@Raziel: I don't know.. i feel sometimes series suffer by trying to keep characters in when they don't need to. Although I am quite liking the rivalry between the two. I haven't watched this clip yet. I'm not sure if I want to. This game is already a day one purchase, so I don't want to spoil anything else.

Having once had a short stint as a globe trotting treasure hunter I find Nathan Drake to be a highly inaccurate depiciton of the people who hold position as the greatest treasure hunters. The majority of globe trotting treasure hunters are, like myself, Hunchbacks. Although the concept is initially quite unintuitive hunchbacks have a large advantage within the treasure hunting (and international art thief) arena, and any real life hunchback would not only feel envy and scorn for Nathan Drake due to his rugged good looks but would likely out perform him and feel more then compensated by the rewards which are recieved afterwards, effectively tipping the grand scale back into their favour. The advantage of being a hunchback springs from the fact people try to avoid both looking at your hump as well as not staring at you due to the strange nature of the affliction, they don't want to be caught gawking at any visible disability. An example of this would be my first trip towards the depths of Hawaii to recover the cursed tiki statues from the Brady Bunch movie. They were being stored behind glass within the museum, but as the gaurds all felt wracked with guilt upon staring at my hump, they all made an effort to look away in order to not offend me and feel horribly discomforted at the sight of it. The second this was achieved and all gaurds had averted their eyes I smashed the glass, grabbed the cursed tiki statue and walked out in front of all of them. Due to their need to hold up such courtesies as not looking at my hump and their repulsion of touching my hump in any attempt to capture me I was able to escape with relative ease. As a result I feel that the Uncharted series won't reach its ultimate potential until Nathan Drake recieves a hunchback. Do you also agree that Nathan Drake's rugged good looks are what is truely holding this series back?

@zach a mac rack alack: I personally don't see an Uncanny Valley in Uncharted 2. Isn't "Uncanny Valley" meant to refer to the dip in realism that takes you out of immersion? (line break) For example, X-Blades' character model does not fit the environments. As soon as you get a good look at her face, you realize that something is amiss - in this case, the main characters face is the Uncanny Valley. (At least, that's how I was told to think of it.)

@Outi: Worth it, though. Perhaps even more than the other two series. The game is very story-centric and funny on an almost subliminal level at times.

I am really, really pumped for this game. I loved the original, but this seems like an improvement in every way. More detailed environments, better VO, incredible animation. Really, even if you aren't a fan of the gameplay, it's worth watching that cinematic just to see the amount of work that has clearly gone into making the movements as realistic as possible.

The first Uncharted was such a hoot, and really one of the big surprises for me when I got my PS3. It really surpassed all of my expectations. I only watched the briefest part of this clip, because I didn't want to spoil anything.

I really am looking forward to this. Here's hoping 2 is as great an-all-around experience as the first... maybe minus

I never got interested in the first game, but now I'm starting to feel that Uncharted may be a game series that I really have to look into. I hate it when this happens! 'Cause now it's not enough that I get the second game, I also have to get the first game! This already happened to me with Patapon and Assassin's Creed!

Counting the days. Hope a specail editon comes out!! Also the animation was incredible...

Damn. I simply cannot wait for this game. I enjoyed the first one so much, and it gave me my first Platinum Trophy. So far this looks to give me a whole lot more enjoyment, both story and gameplay wise. Hell, I even enjoyed the multiplayer, and I don't play online shooters that much.

Still wanna see the snow level, though.

I can't wait for this game. I have to go out and buy the first one and replay to keep me over until this comes out. Man they sure now how to get people excited with a 2 min vid.

Yup... Edited. Oh, and this looks great, as always... Naughty dog has better rigs than most movie SFX teams and CG movie makers (like pixar... MUCH better rigging than pixar) I wonder if this will be 100% supernatural, or if they'll explain it away as thought it could be natural the way they sort of did in Uncharted 1.

Naughty Dog needs to get FF13's hair source code. The lusciousness of that afro would be fantastic on Elena.

The graphics may be good, but the body movements are astounding. It's amazing how they can render things to look so realistic - almost uncanny valley, but not as much because Drake is such an enjoyable character that you forget that.

I'm guessing that guy turns on Drake once he gets him what he needs to acquire the stone.

Man I just can't wait for this game. Every time I see something from it I just get more excited!
