DJ Hero Taps The Grandmaster
What kind of DJ game would DJ Hero be without Grandmaster Flash, the man responsible for millions of records scratched to hell and back by 80’s teens.
The Grandmaster himself joins the cast of big-name DJs appearing in Activision’s forthcoming rhythm game, adding a pair of never-before-released mixes to the title for good measure. His contributions, Herbie Hancock “Rockit” vs. N.E.R.D. “Lapdance” and Grandmaster Flash “Here Comes My DJ” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”, may have just scored Activision a buy on this end. Old-school hip hop is second only to funk in terms of making me move around in an awkward simulation of what you humans call dancing.

@Iceman B.: Shut up about beat-effing-mania. It's nothing like it. Different style of music, different gameplay mechanic. Scratch IS like beatmania. This isn't.

Learn your goddamned history.
@Clushje: No problem, I'll just dip into my "Numoney" account.
@CamoZombie: That'll be £648 please.
Clushje
Oh, and where the FUCK is the trance music?
Wow, so many replies and not a single mention of beatmania IIDX?
I really wonder how this will play out but with only 3 buttons.... I can't really see it becoming hard. Of course, thats what you could say about DDR and look where it's gotten today. It did take a good few years though.
Will DJ Hero last even a few years? Will it last even a year? Perhaps the name alone will carry it a good while in the beginning but after that....
Finally, I wonder how much a bundle will cost in Europe.
Grandmaster Flash "Here Comes My DJ" vs. Gary Numan "Cars", Rihanna Vs Motorhead
Blondie vs Beck
this game is getting real interesting
I'm tired of buying plastic crap, though
DAMN YOU ACTIVISION
YOU WHORE
Eddie Alvarez
@Save me: Oh well then crap. Nevermind.
Godamnit...
Activision needs to stop making me buy their products all of the sudden... They are supposed to be the bad guys. >_<
@VenomMelendez: Good for you, YOU are sold on it because this guy is in it. If you think the mainstream/casual audience cares (or even knows who Grandmaster Flash is, by the way,) you're dreaming. Care to keep this in mind after DJ Hero is released? Go ahead and be a smart-ass all you want, I'll stick to having common sense. No way in hell a large amount of people is going to spend $120 on a) ANOTHER plastic controller in their house, and b) a game that is largely not understood by the mainstream audience.
But go ahead, keep living in the land of "I like it, so it'll be popular." I'm sure it's very calming.

@Daniel Pizarro Sánchez: and by pri... i meant price. Dunno what happened. :S
Daniel Pizarro Sánchez
What about adding the great and well known DJ "Thisgameneedsanaffordableandrealisticpri...,because,afterallit´sjustapieceofplasticandadisc"
I´ve heard that guy is awesome.
Daniel Pizarro Sánchez
@Matt0505:
Tell me next weeks lotto while your at it.
VenomMelendez
@KaneRobot:
Word. Though Grandsmaster Flash is a good start.
VenomMelendez
@BigWyrm:
Shows how little you know kid.
Really, the ahve me sold with Grandmaster Flash
VenomMelendez
@Klemmins:
This looks very appealing to me as i'm into Hip-Hop and the guitar hero franchise. Only turn off is the price - it was a must buy until I saw those numbers.
ieatchocolate
Grandmaster Flash is as hardcore a DJ as you can get, even if the stuff he's doing for this isn't. He was one of the premiere DJ's of the pre rap record era. I remember going to some of the clubs where he was spinning in the Bronx back in the day. It was some really awesome shit. I was at the party when he first rocked the beat box.
Flash and DJ Theodore were the first DJ's to introduce the scratching technique. There is nothing today that compares to those Block parties when they used to come out and tear shit up on the street for free.
Ah, Good times.
Grand Wizard Theodore was the creator of the scratch, but Grandmaster is still OG
Needs Jazzy Jeff badly.
KaneRobot
@gurfinki: Dude, do yourself a favour and just wait it out for RB5 or GH7... with games like these you REALLY need to pass on every few releases if you want to maintain your sanity.
Superlocke
@Servant_of_Jashin: I met him once! He played at my school for our pub nights lol
Superlocke
still waiting for more of the popular DJs to be added... Where's Jam Master Jay? (I know Scratch DJ has Run DMC but only one song "Peter Piper")
also: Chemical Brothers, Jazzy Jeff, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Daft Punk, Darude (just for the song "Sandstorm").
I thought this game was a really silly joke when I first heard of it. Now I just think it's an expensive joke.
Liptons
This game isn't about real DJs.
Goddamn I am so sick of rap/hip hop.
This game may score points with game reviewers because it's something new for the music game genre, but it's not going to sell for shit. The main stream audience will be too busy with The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 to care.
Matt0505
@Servant_of_Jashin: Ya really done want me to tig-a-tig-a-tig-a tell ya wassup?
You can scratch records BACK from hell? Wow.
@CamoZombie: hmmm, I cannot see cars working with this, but dammit give me the fear factory version
@Klemmins: It does not seem fun to me either, but then I am a rocker/metalhead, now clearly not all gamers are, I could never like this game because of the tye of music it endorses, yet many people could never like guitar hero/rock band for the same reason,
This game could well be a massive hit with the dance crowd, and could do very very well
Sounds like fun. But i can't justify another $100 controller game just yet. As much as i aspire to being a 'DeeJay' I am old enough to either get the real thing or just keep dreaming.
Turael
@Falsoman: Someone needs to photoshop Kotick with Pennywise the Dancing Clown ASAP!
@Servant_of_Jashin: Now that you mention it... Kotic can totally pull off an "IT the clown" look.
At first I read "DJ Hero faps the Grandmother". 0____o
Anyway, I'll pass on this game. Even though reports in different sites are saying that this game apparently will be great and a lot of fun, I'll still pass on it, simply because I've spent way too much money on plastic peripherals and rythm games already, and there's still RB Beatles and GH5 coming, which I'll buy for sure.
I'm enough addicted to GH and RB as is, I don't need yet ANOTHER rythm game to get addicted to, too. : (
gurfinki
More and more want but for £100? No chance
no DJ Jazzy Jeff, no buying for me.
and I h8 clowns, looking at u bobby K ( i know i didn't have to add the less part, but i did so, take that other ppl).
Servant_of_Jashin
@Sl0th:
You should never be upset that your girlfriend is playing Rock Band. One day, my friend, it will not be so easy to get girls to play, nor will they be as understanding to you playing all the time if they have not played themselves.
Pretty crazy that they got Flash to endorse this. I don't think I can justify spending more than $100 on another music game/controller combo again, though. Maybe someone will figure out how to play it with their guitar hero controller.
LetItRane
Man, do I have to buy both of these DJ games? I like the mixes of DJ Hero, but I also like the freestyling of Scratch DJ. Fffffuuuuuuuuuuu!
@Crosswayboy: Are you the type of person who prefers house/trance/etc when in clubs as opposed to hip hop music in clubs?
Lets be friends.
will this game include bitches and hoes?
can a white negro get a bitch please?!?!?
bableebooblah-new and improved.
@guitarzan2k5: oh hehehehehehehehehe
RadioactiveSoup
I'm really liking what i've been seeing about this game. Make it at least 20 bucks cheaper and we have a deal.
@Sl0th: You would still need your right hand to play this game.
So much hip-hop, not enough house. :(
Well damn. This game just keeps getting more and more interesting.
Crap, I think I'll have to buy a second T.V. and Xbox so that I can play this while my girlfriend is playing Rock Band.
Get off the Rock Band woman! Lemme play!
"making me move around in an awkward simulation of what you humans call dancing."
For a second there I thought I was writing this article.
GARY NUMAN?
I'll take 6.
This game just doesn't seem interesting. . . Gonna be fun to see if it sells at all.
At the very least, it's refreshing to see a music game with such a different soundtrack and sonic aesthetic. That said, this will probably get old before DJ Hero Rocks the Discotech comes out...
