EA Re-NERFs The Wii
Packaging a video game with a NERF gun worked so well the first time that EA’s doing it again, adding secret decoder functions to the arsenal in NERF 2: “N-Strike” Elite for the Nintendo Wii.
NERF 2 is being developed partially in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the NERF brand, and perhaps mostly due to the amazing sales of the first game. Set for a fall release, the new game comes with a new blaster – the NERF Switch Shot EX-3. New to the weapon is a NERF decoder scope, which reveals hidden elements when the screen is viewed through its ruby-red lens. The game itself is your basic rail shooter with NERF elements, including the ability to configure your in-game blaster with “millions” of upgrade combinations, as well as enhanced co-op play.
Poke fun at it if you’d like, but if I were twelve-years-old this is exactly the sort of junk I’d go crazy for. A video game plus a cat terrorising device? Sold. Looks for NERF 2 to hit store shelves this fall.

@RiceBandit: I think they sold Nerf DS Lite protectors...
But was the first game any good?
I've said this so many times since the Wii first launched: Nerf should make a Nintendo-endorsed Wii remote! To hell with the condoms, and wrist straps. Just make it Nerf.
@TRT-X: No, not really. The default speed of those rubber-tipped whistlers would only tap against the skin.
Now, modify the gun to use homemade darts loaded with BB's for weight...
Now it needs to be 3D!

@eurkos: I modded my CS-5 by plugging the air holes in the orange tube and removing the air restrictor. I'm not hardcore enough to add a bigger spring though.
@0suited: don't forget those kids were white...
racist huh?
@jjammerzs:
lol. i'm sorry to hear that.
it is indeed sad but funny at the same time.
@iEro-Sennin: I remember one summer (think I was nine) I wanted one so bad, so I saved all the change I could find until I could afford one....
By the time I was able to buy one, it was winter.....
My point being, nine year old me knew how you felt...
I'm a huge NERF nut, and this is something that only a NERF nut would think about-
Why are they putting the older N-Strike color scheme on the new gun, when the used the newer N-Strike Color Scheme (Mainly yellow, with orange and black) on the older Wii gun?
@Crash__Man:
That's actually a pretty quotable statement. ^_^
Anyway, I played the N-Strike game as well, not bad, certainly passable as someone mentioned before. EA could create a pretty tantalizing on rails game with the brand if they put a bit more effort into it.

NAIL.ON.THE.HEAD
people often act like 12-yr-olds around here, but forget what it was like to be one.

@Skyline7284: I liked the gun better than the Nyko Perfect Shot due to its more ergonomic, curved grip. I have big hands but the Nyko's grip still felt like an oversized rectangle.
The Nerf game was actually decent. The gun was MUCH better than the official Nintendo one IMHO.
I had some family over for the 4th of July and my Godparents thought it would be a funny idea to give me a Nerf gun that they intended to give me years ago. I was having so much fun with it! xD
@eurkos: Ooooh, nice. I don't mind the Switch Shot, but I'd LOVE to upgrade the spring on my Longshot.
@Helba: sorry that was @ iero-sennin
@ShoopDaBoofs: Dude, my dad worked as a printing press operator, and I had super soakers - I just saved up!
Dad used to give me $5 a week to mow the front and back lawns, so I saved up during april, and by summer I had the near top-of-the-line one.
And yes, using it to soak my bratty sisters made it worth every damn penny.
I used to put nails in my NERF bow and arrow arrows. I like turtles.
@0suited: I wasn't aware they were all that expensive.
Probably because I had an arsenal of various super soaker water cannons and NERF guns.

@topheavy: *ahem* vibrator
I actually had real nerf guns when I was twelve. I've got to say, I prefer those. My friends and I would tear up someone's house with those guns/darts. And course, someone always got hit in the eye at some point. Totally worth it though.
Yeah the first game was passable, again especially for the intended age range.
I DO think its a bit of a tease that they put the Vulcan, an infinitely more awesome (and expensive) gun on the packaging, although at least you get to use that gun IN the game.
Basically, give us a Wii remote holder that clips onto the Vulcan rails, and a game designed to actually be controlled by the maniac who has one and thinks thats a good idea...myself, I mean.
Wow. No suction tips on the darts? That could hurt.
@Salen: They're really easy to modify, too. Take the air suppressor and put in a bigger spring, and it leaves welts.
And not only cats, also dogs, birds, uncles, aunts, grandmas...
Those things hurt you know.
They need to make a nerf Rez dildo.
@0suited: The trick was to go to the rich kid yard sales and buy their old tech for dirt cheap. I got one of the Super Soaker backpack firehose monstrosities for a song at a yard sale.
Guitarzan2k5 - Bad puns are my business, and business is good!
The first game wasn't terrible.
My younger brothers got it, so I tried it out.
It's not great, but it was a decent amount of fun.
I wish we had these when I was 12 =[
Zyconis
I might get it for the NERF gun.
@iEro-Sennin: ditto, only rich kids got those, like the ones who got nintendo consoles (using dad's PC ftw), but TBH it was a good thing
0suited
@Skyline7284: Actually, you could get the gun AND the game for 30 bucks, or the gun for like 10 at Walmart or something like that.
And you know, I just realized that the Switch Shot has a tactical rail on the bottom of it. I should totally hook that up with my laser sight from my Recon CS-5.
I never got a cool water gun when I was a child.
Thanks for bringing up bad childhood memories, Kotaku. :(
*cry*
iEro-Sennin
I've heard the first gun was really good quality, and you could pick it up for like $30
Might sound stupid but this is all kinds of win. I wonder if they will ever make a nerf zapper case that shootws nerfs. Hey I can;t see the screen too many nerf darts!

Sweet!
