Elves Add Classes To Runes Of Magic

The elves are bringing two new playable character classes to Runes of Magic, along with the usual pointy-ears and naked mailbox dancing.

The Warden and the Druid join Runes of Magic’s diverse cast of character classes when the second chapter, The Elven Prophecy, hits the game this September. The Warden is at one with the forest, travelling with a magical plant companion and casting beneficial spells on their allies. Meanwhile the Druid is a nature wizard, with a much more diverse catalog of spells, from healing to damage to support. According to the picture here, one of them wears tree bark, while the other one is a crazy near-naked plant lady.

Both of these new classes are being called Elf classes, meaning humans won’t be able to play them until Frogster decides it would be a good idea. Considering the rate at which they add to the free-to-play game, that could be a matter of minutes.

Wait till you hit around level 20. The dungeons are hard as hell. As a priest/cleric/whatever the healing class is, I had to heal at precisely the exact right moment to make sure our tank stayed alive, but I didn't overheal.

@Lucas Hamel: I just started today and nothing I see remotely reminds me of EQ, it reminds me of modern MMORPGs. I downloaded the stuff to install it like two months ago and finally installed it last night... which was a patch day or some shit -_-;... I was disappointed to see the Druid wasn't a class available to play from the get go, after eight years of being one in EQ before I quit, it was the first, and only, class I tried out in EQ2, WoW, and Vanguard during the trials I had for them. Multiclassing is something new to me, Im gonna need to look into that more. Having that makes me wonder why some classes exist as classes of their own ><.

And that druid looks damn hot.

@Xagest: Oh like a reputable company like Blizzard would ever have to resort to copying other people's creativity.

Warcraft and Starcraft are completely original IPHAHAHAHAHAhaha... sorry I tried.

@El Critiquel: I did really enjoy Cabal and sword of the new world. Cabal may have just been because of the flashy moves though.

@kneegrow: DnD, Warhammer, Shadowrun, Earthdawn; none of those ring a bell?

  • kneegrow

I'm waiting for a game or setting where elves are NOT associated with hippies and tree hugging.

Even Tolkien wrote about sea elves.

    If i were a hot druid-elf woman, i wouldn't wear much clothing.

His point is that he's a young fanboy looking to rage at something. anything.

The race and classes drop with the new expansion, which is due out in September.

  • mfwahwah

@Schmatz: Everything copied everything before it. What the hell is your point?

  • Fernando Jorge

@Schmatz: The thing is, it is hardly a legit to say that WoW is being copied, because well, WoW itself is a copy of other copies before them.

Oddly enough, the actual in game armor is nowhere near as revealing. Most of my characters end up in ankle-length dresses (whether or not they have a vagina).

@Lucas Hamel: SO much better than WoW. I want to cap my character now so I can help my new elf along when they come out. :) Best F2P MMO out there, no question.

@hondo: Do realize that every class comes in both sexes. For every boob you drool at, you will be seeing another banana hammock coming your way.

@hondo: An interesting take on 'support' spells, eh?

  • hondo

Wow... that girl elf is wearing practical nothing at all... compared to her partner who looks like he's going to go enjoy a fine Canadian winter.

    Not that I'm complaining..

    boobs...

    @Schmatz:
To be fair, the game existed long before WoW. It was known as Radiant Arcana before it came overseas. So in the timeline of things, WoW copied Runes of Magic...

    off to play wow lol

@Schmatz: A FREE low-end copy of WoW. Plus Multiclassing. And it's actually difficult. It reminds me of the golden age of Everquest mixed with the sleek UI of WoW.

    It's pretty much perfect.

    Lucas Hamel

  • El Critiquel

@Schmatz: It may lack some of the production values of WoW, but it more than makes up for it with the very addictive gameplay. And its FREE!

  • jaxontyler97

    @Schmatz:

The dev's said it themselves, why change what works?

    jaxontyler97

  • Schmatz

Have you ever seen screenshots of this game? It looks like they opened WoW's source files and took everything, then made minor modifications to every part. It might be fun, but it's practically a low-end copy of WoW.

  • Lucas Hamel

Say what you will about WoW Clones, but Runes of Magic is actually a GOOD game. I enjoy it more than World of Warcraft.

    I should start playing again...

  • El Critiquel

Damn. Just as I was getting weaned off and heading back outside.....

But IMO, this is probably one of the best Free-to-play MMOs out there. Good to see that model working out for Frogstar.

  • Squiffy

I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. I've played pretty much every popular MMO under the sun, and this one tickles something in me the right way.

The class system wasn't quite what I was expecting. Was hoping for something like FFXI, but it's still a cool concept. The questing is relatively easy, but I'm hitting the level now where things get more difficult and leveling comes slower.

I think it's one of the first games I might actually put some microtransactions into.

Would highly recommend people try it out. Not that anyone will probably see this comment, since I've been auditioning for over a year now... -.-
