If you want to race with other people (not on friends list) online you have to use "matchmaking" that gives you the option of having no options other than a car. Nobody controls the matches and you are fed tracks similar to a COD4 rotation. They have completely removed Public Customizable rooms from the game. So you either needs lots of friends playing at the same time to even get a "custom" match going, or you have to pick a "race mode" and wait for 20 minutes until someone pops in the matchmaking room. After that you are at the mercy of the matchmaking playlist. There is an uprising at the forzamotorsport.net forums going on right now. Just look at all of the options they note in the interview above, now imagine that you have to create a private room and invite a friend to use any of them. Oh and we have been told to advertise our private rooms on the forza forums and hope people join our private custom room. Oh and for "the game ships with a dozen matchmaking options", try a tiny handful. So basically you get no public customized rooms, only rooms that have been pre-customized and non-editable through matchmaking, and hopefully you have enough friends to populate a private match so you can "use the pages of features" that allow a player to customize his/her perfect race.
