Game & Watch Titles Coming To DSi Ware

Game & Watch, the handheld games created by Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi, are coming to Japanese DSi Ware. The series was recently released as a Club Nintendo DS cartridge dubbed Game & Watch Collection.

Each game is priced at 200 Points. Titles and Japan release dates as follows:

Ball
July 15

Flagman
July 15

Vermin
July 15

Judge
July 15

Helmet
July 29

Chef
July 29

Donkey Kong JR.
August

Mario’s Cement Factory
August

Manhole
August

All of these, save for one ~ two player title Judge, are single player only titles.

From 1980 to 1991, Nintendo made way more Game & Watch titles than these nine games, so we can probably expect just that: more. Be patient! We imagine games like Fire and Octopus are inevitable additions to this already solid line up.

@benjamines: Just as confused as you are. I guess they must think those are inevitable

So... wait... why the $#@* did I order G&W from Club Nintendo?

Wait a second... the article says these were previously released in the Club Nintendo DS game. But that game had Oil Panic, Greenhouse, and Donkey Kong, none of which are listed here. So why does everyone keep saying they're glad they didn't get the Club Nintendo one?
  • N●Gage Croal
I wonder if they'll release any of the side-by-side dual screened G&Ws, like Mario Bros.. If so... would they require yout o hold the DSi sideways? That'd be interesting.
  • Aparanoidandroi
@JahB: As much crap as they release for the DS there are lots of great games for it, go with the DS lite and enjoy yourself.

This is actually pretty good for Mr. Game & Watch since this will be his first major game release (with him in it) since Game & Watch Gallery 4 (and even then he had to share the spotlight with Mario and Co.) So kudos to you, Mr. Game & Watch. Go ahead and put on that 2D bowtie and top hat. You've earned it! Looking forward to seeing your dual screen games in full screen action on the DS. ~Otaku-Man P.S. Come to think of it, this will allow players to pick and choose which games they want to DL to make their own G&W gallery.

    VC? this? could be
  • Piccoroz
Been waiting for this since the release of the DS, guess I will now wait for a DSi that has a Game & watch desing and includes all the games.

    Well it is about time!

I just wish Nintendo would release a Game and Watch themed DS Lite or DSi. I would really love a DS that had a similar shell to what the Donkey Kong had.
  • Sparerib
@Ferkner: I'm pretty sure that they save your purchase history in their servers. I'd like to have the physical copy too, but the beauty of DSiware is that you can have tons of games on the DSi without having to switch cartridges. Now, if they could only make tons of games that I would want to buy...
  • Sparerib
@Qhue: Agreed, and 2 bucks a pop is way too steep for these games.
  • natureboy46
I got the DS collection (thanks Goozex) and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I had the three games when I was a kid (Donkey Kong, Oil Panic and Greenhouse) and figured they'd only be good for nostalgia but ended up playing for a couple of hours. I loved Donkey Kong Jr. (and many others) so if these make there way to the US then it might actually persuade me to upgrade to a DSi.
  • Misanthropic Gamer
Fresh out of ideas? Why not re-release some ancient games!
  • namesRhard
@JahB: Unless you're REALLY big on your GBA games and lack a GBA I'd say get a DSi. Simply because of the proposed exclusive games. I can understand people not wanting to upgrade, but if you have the extra cash you're better off buying the newer tech rather than finding out later that you want one for an exclusive game/content
  • ZaxxonQ.com
@Elranzer: There's a reason why they say it prints money. :-P
  • ZaxxonQ.com
    @Devil_Dan: LOL! Awesome! +1 ^_^
  • Ferkner
@Spritz: I'm glad I got the game from Club Nintendo. I'd rather have a physical copy rather than a downloaded copy. If the DS gets busted/smashed, I still have the game since it's a physical copy.

    Ferkner

  • Elranzer
Seemed like the DS was a no-brainer to get the dual-screen Game & Watch games. I was wondering why they just didn't release a Game & Watch Gallery 5 for the DS (aside from the crappy Club Nintendo compilations with just three games). I can see why now. They'd rather charge $2 per game than $20 for a collection of 30 games.

@WhatTheFrag: do live in europe... thanks for the answers, i think i'll pick up the ds lite layton bundle then
  • TerribleDecade
$2 a game?! WTF? Might as well get that cart.
  • WhatTheFrag
@JahB: Like the guys have said earlier get a DSLite if you want to play GBA games or Guitar Hero games and games that require the GBA slot peripherals (there's quite a few really). Get the DSi if you want DSi ware though that depends on where you live - there's not a lot in the EU store as yet.
  • Exor
Holy crap. I used to have a Zelda G&W game when I was really quite young (no older than 5 years old). That was my first experience with the brand, other than being mesmerized by my older brother's shiny golden Zelda II NES cartridge.

  • Rhapsidous
Aww... Japan always gets the cool stuff... Majorly unfair :( I'd love to have these on my DSi :(

  • ZeeBeeEss
Now there's even less incentive to grab that Game & Watch collection with my Club Nintendo points. Looks like I'll be waiting for new gear.
  • VatoLoko
@JahB: Well, unless you want DSi Ware, then get a DS Lite. If you want to play GBA games on your DS, you need to get a DS Lite. I'm happy with my DS Lite and the DSi has yet to do anything that makes me want to considering spending more on a new one.

    VatoLoko

  • n00b_pwner
@JahB: DS Lite. DSi can't play GBA games, but DS Lite doesn't have downloadible games at all. Still, DS Lite is worth it if you plan on playing GBA games.
  • Devil_Dan
Hah. It's like that episode of Voyager where Tom used the holodec to simulate a projection of an old red/blue 3D movie.

  • JahB
nice. i've been considering to getting a ds for a while now, and they keep making it more and more interesting. any suggestions wether to get ds lite or dsi from kotakuites that already have one?
  • mitch_93
Well well this is interesting. I wonder what else they will release for us.

    mitch_93

  • Qhue
Maybe its because I was a bit too old when Game & Watch first showed up (I was very much into computer gaming at that point following the Atari crash of 1983) but I've never quite understood the appeal of G&W. To me they just seemed like wasteful and overly basic in a "who would buy this?" kinda way as I was searching for the latest in Electronic Arts C64 goodness.

    Qhue

  • Spritz
Well, now I'm glad I decided to wait on getting the game from Club Nintendo.

    Spritz

  • Flamov
Bit annoying if you ask me, having saved up to get this via Club Nintendo...
  • Lenomy
Sweet, now release some gameboy games!
  • Sanriostar
Talk to me when Donkey Kong 2 comes out. That's a better DK Jr. game than DK Jr. itself.
    And Spitball Sparky.
