Get BioShock, Civ & X-Com For $54

This ought to see you through the weekend. 2k have announced the release of the “2K Huge Game Pack” on Steam, which bundles BioShock, five Civ titles, five X-Com titles and nine other games, all for $US54.

Here’s every game you get in the pack:

Sid Meier’s Civilization IV
Sid Meier’s Civilization III Complete
Sid Meier’s Pirates!
Shattered Union
Prey
CivCity: Rome
Civilization IV: Warlords
Sid Meier’s Railroads!
Railroad Tycoon 3
Railroad Tycoon II Platinum
X-COM: Terror From the Deep
X-COM: Apocalypse
BioShock
X-COM: Interceptor
X-COM: UFO Defense
X-COM: Enforcer
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Freedom Force
Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich
Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization

Wow. The pack will normally retail for $US60, but this weekend will only be $US54. Not bad when you consider the games are $US230 purchased individually.

Kotaku AU Note: This pack doesn’t appear to be on the Australia Steam store. Checking with the local 2K office to find out what’s happening…

  • mordie

2K pack is region locked and not available in AU.

Again region locking and region pricing is at work…

the other deal of Fallout 3 is 10USD cheaper in the USA. yes there is a different pricing for a lot of games from region to region … steam blame the developers and the developers blame steam …

    • Re: region pricing. Almost all games on Steam are priced according to region. The only exceptions tend to be those games not sold at traditional retail stores.

  • do games publishers/retailers think Australians are so happy and nice because they all live on mountains of gold and have swimming pools of crude oil? seriously I’ve said it before and I’ll say its again…why don’t you GET F**KED publishers and retailers.

    • Nicholas

Dude! Give the publishers a break. It costs millions to ship smaller than DVD case sized packages in bulk weighing in at a colossal 80 grams!

  • Neale Wolfson

    *sigh* I agree.

It annoys me even more that it gives no hint to WHY it’s not available, it just doesn’t show up.

Strangely enough I’ve been keeping an eye out on railroads for a while now hoping to pick it up, and being annoyed that I see references to BUYING it from steam, but being not just unable to, but being unable to be sure WHY!!!

  • Orihalcon

@beetnek: What the hell do you need a source link for? It's on steam, what else do you need to know?

  • MrKlorox

@Aprocalypse: They come with a preconfigured version of DOSbox for each game if they don't run natively in windows.

    MrKlorox

  • MrKlorox

@SilverStar95: this was the case with Valve games at least. I bought the orange box after already owning HL2 and EP1. I was given a gift copy of each to give to a steam friend. I would assume non Valve games are also like this since it's all Steam anyway.

    MrKlorox

  • kearneybobs

@Xusder: That's a whole lotta game for little money. Nice.

  • MrKlorox

@breadtruck: Agreed. Though 60 is still a good price for this package... if you don't already own any of the modern games in it.

    MrKlorox

  • MrKlorox

@PeteyCoco: The Steam downloads of Doom and Doom II come with and run on DOSbox unless you grab a source port. I would assume the games that haven't been upgraded to work on Vista do require AND come with a pre-configured DOSbox.

    MrKlorox

  • Aprocalypse

@Aprocalypse: Oh, wait, it's not available in Australia. Oh well.

  • Aprocalypse

If only I didn't already buy Bioshock for $5 and the XCom pack. D:

  • Aprocalypse

@Korvac: If you're running at least XP, I'd expect them to be working 100%. If you're really worried check the steam forums for each game to see if there's any problems with any specific hardware or some such.

Can say from personal experience that all the X-Com Games, Bioshock, Sid Meyer's Pirates all do, though!

  • tptmanno1

Holy Crap, This is worth is for the Civ games and Bioshock alone.
Man I kill so many hours playing Civ IV.

    tptmanno1

  • orijimi

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: I agree with your thinking, only 3 of these games are any good. Still worth the 54 dollars for just those 3 games, but I'm guessing buying them separate would be cheaper. The hard drive space lost is also a lot less.

    orijimi

  • wox42

@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Well said. I've never played Civ4, Prey, Pirates, or X-COM. Thank God for steam...

    wox42

  • Korvac

I love many of those games but are they all even still compatible with modern PCs?

  • ShineyBlueShoes

@SilverStar95: I've always wondered that but never had a pack I wanted to buy with just one thing I already owned so never tried. Was tempted to buy the HOMMV one last week but didn't want to risk it.

    ShineyBlueShoes

  • ShineyBlueShoes

@kneegrow: Well no... not quite my math challenged friend. You can can get those three for $30. But with Civ IV and all the expansions that makes it a phenomenal deal since you're then getting X-Com, Railroad Tycoon, Prey and Pirates for free!

    ShineyBlueShoes

  • Xusder

@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: F***ing amen, brotha!

    20 games.

    $3 each (approximately).

    20 GAMES!

I will get this and enjoy (especially X-COM, I have never played that, and everyone I know says it's good).

Also Freedom Force, oh god, I only played the demo a long time ago!

My game backlog just got bigger...

  • ashlar

@(Zombie) Goldwings: HD4770... cheaps and can run nearly everything.

  • deanbmmv

@Kitsune Sniper: UK has it, and EU normally gets pretty neglected. All the games were on Steam originally, just now they are in a bundle.

  • ashlar

@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: I just LOL'd.

  • SilverStar95

I already own Bioshock and the X-Com games from the pack... what happens if I buy it? Do the duplicates become gift tickets to give away?

    SilverStar95

  • Hey_Blinkon

@EnigmaNemesis: Seriously. Those games are high quality.

    Hey_Blinkon

  • zoesch

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: Clicks on Can I Really Be the Hero? tile.

    *selects Sonic Cannon*

    Care to repeat?

  • kneegrow

It's worth it for Bioshock and the two Freedom Force games alone. Wow!

    kneegrow

  • Can I Really Be the Hero?

@Archaotic: True dat, and it's still a bargain price.

Can I Really Be the Hero?

  • Charax

    @Kitsune Sniper:
    UK gets it for £36

    Charax

  • Archaotic

@Chrysolite: It's been said before and it'll be said again, different strokes for different folks, y'know?

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: I would say it's pretty much impossible to have a bundle of 20 games in which you love every single one, though...4 or 5 is a lot easier.

  • Can I Really Be the Hero?

@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Don't worry, Three Dog and the Tunnel Snakes got my back. Plus, no one can penetrate my Tesla armor!

Can I Really Be the Hero?

  • breadtruck

@breadtruck: And after further review on Steam, this deal didnt exist before. That original comment I quoted threw me off I guess (maybe I should read slower ehh?). Sooooo.... never mind me. Looks like this truly is stupid cheap, and Im just stupid haha

  • Can I Really Be the Hero?

@Archaotic: This comment was supposed to be a reply to another comments above(And a joke), but there are few games I love in this bundle, unlike the Orange Box, which I loved completely.

Can I Really Be the Hero?

  • Chrysolite

@Kitsune Sniper: Not as frustratingly close, but I feel your pain. Did net cafes ever come to the US.....in southern California/Texas/New Mexico/Arizona?

    Chrysolite

  • Chrysolite

@(Zombie) Goldwings: Everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but after playing Portal for 30 minutes at a friend's apartment I imported The Orange Box for that game alone--and Portal was fun enough for me to give Half Life 2 and both of its mini-sequels a try, which I otherwise never would have considered doing.

I also credit that purchase with giving me the courage to pick up Bioshock, which I also really enjoyed.

So Portal did change my life....for a couple of months where I looked up and realized I'd been playing FPSs exclusively on my PS3.

    Chrysolite

  • Kitsune Sniper

So can people -outside- of the US purchase these? Because I live three blocks -south- of the US and I can't even LOOK AT 2K'S DAMN CATALOG.

It's like they don't want my money at all.

  • Deathbearer

holy shit that's a lot of games

    Deathbearer

  • martu12

Bought this just a couple minutes ago. I've honestly never played any of these games before, seemed too good to pass up.

  • Wizard

@Archaotic: ...I think I'd be able to deal with Boston becoming a singularity of happiness. Especially if it's because of an X-COM revival.

    I mean, it's freaking X-COM. (Turn-based only please.)

    Wizard

  • lionkitten

I bought Civ IV:Gold alone a month ago for $40 and it was worth every cent. If you bought this, you could game forever and never spend a dime again.

    That would be boring though.

  • (Zombie) Goldwings

@NoobKitten: I just need a good graphics card, but whenever I ask which one, I just get a shit ton of people telling me mumbo jumbo info about processing this and hard drive that, etc. As long as I can run it and it doesn't cost me more than $150 then I'm fine.

  • njd09

    @Lord Raggleus Fraggleus: OH SHIT.

    njd09

  • Archaotic

@pslong9: Oh, I agree, if it's a shooter or an RTS, there will be blood. Classic turn-based strategy all the way.

  • pslong9

@Archaotic: Preferably not the part that I'm in. But if a true X-COM revival does happen (and if it's not turn-based, I'm... less likely to buy it), then I will deal with any singularities in Boston. It will be worth it.

    pslong9

  • Archaotic

@(Zombie) Goldwings: Same here, sir. Same here. I played Portal, it was a decent puzzler, but it didn't change my life or anything like some people seem to say it did. Yeesh.

  • (Zombie) Goldwings

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: I never did get into Portal. Now before you all pelt me, I just never knew what the big deal was.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Phew, I thought they were for me. Funny thing to since I can only take 2 shots lol*nervously*

  • (Zombie) Goldwings

I remember just 7 years ago how much Computer games were bundled like this. What happened? Oh yeah, the growth/evolution of the internet happened :/

  • Angrypasta

Damn, I just bought the Civ4 pack for 35 bucks a few weeks.

And I own 13 of the 20 games in the pack. Damn damn damn.

  • beetnek

@Luke Plunkett: No source link? Those kinds of things are greatly appreciated.

    beetnek

  • Archaotic

@NoobKitten: A new monitor is nice, but you gotta upgrade the rest of it to keep up, yo.

  • spannu

@NoobKitten: If you have a mouse, it's not old enough.

    spannu

  • NoobKitten

    @Archaotic: I assume the monitor doesn't count....

  • SNAK3ATER

    2K Box anyone? Holy balls

  • KenseiKitsune

@Can I Really Be the Hero?:

One wonders whether you actually read the list.

    KenseiKitsune

  • Archaotic

@NoobKitten: You should probably upgrade sometime soon. :[

  • breadtruck

@breadtruck: Disclaimer: And by "steam deals" I am referring to the package price, and not savings compared to buying each separately.

Based off individual prices, yes, it would be stupid cheap. ;P

  • Archaotic

@Strom Thurmond: A valid use of his time, and I approve. Seriously though, I've been hearing rumors his next game is an X-COM revival for almost a year now. If that happened, I would be so happy that parts of Boston would vanish into a singularity.

  • NoobKitten

@Archaotic: Your probably right, it's just that ever since my computer crashed while I was installing Army Men, which was a good eight years ago, I just lost faith in it :(

  • Archaotic

@PeteyCoco: A valid question. I do not know, sir, as I use XP when I boot Windows. As far as I know, the DOS-era games have likely been upgraded to boot on Windows...at least, that would be smart.

  • Strom Thurmond

@Archaotic: He's busy torturing and killing the various members of Gamecock.

  • NoobKitten

    @EnigmaNemesis: Just a click away :)

  • Lord Raggleus Fraggleus

@(Zombie) Jolan: It makes it look like L4D2. OH I DID NOT JUST DO THAT, I DID NOT JUST DO THAT.

  • breadtruck

"The pack will normally retail for $60, but this weekend will only be $54."

Hmmm, that's not a very impressive savings. I like my Steam deals to be stupid cheap.

Sadly, I already own a few of those games, so re-buying the pack for only a 10% price reduction wouldnt be tolerable here like some of the other package deals I had gotten off Steam.

  • PeteyCoco

@Archaotic: I guess my question would be this: Do all the games work on Vista sans-DosBox?

  • Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet K

    @EnigmaNemesis:

    Sheer willpower.

  • Michael Dukakis - Mets fan - Bas

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: Holy shit you got some huge gahonies to say that . I would take Archaotics advice.

  • EnigmaNemesis

    @NoobKitten:

    How do you even post?

    :-p

  • Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet K

    @Archaotic:

I knew I was saving these last two shells from my trip to the DC Wasteland for something.

You can have them, chosen one.

  • EnigmaNemesis

Now that is a heck of a deal!!!

  • Archaotic

@NoobKitten: If you can run DOS, you can probably run X-COM.

  • Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet K

    @Michael Dukakis - Mets fan:

Your first order of business should be publicly announcing your plans to buy out EA.

    You know, for the lulz.

  • RedStar - Workers of The World U

    @Michael Dukakis - Mets fan:

    $54 would be over priced.

  • NoobKitten

I'm sure my PC could run a good 0.000000001% of those games. (Yes it's that old)

  • Archaotic

@Can I Really Be the Hero?: *cocks shotgun* I suggest you run. Quickly. >:[

  • Zefir

    Good...god...

  • Can I Really Be the Hero?

Yes... but the Orange Box had good games.

Can I Really Be the Hero?

  • Michael Dukakis - Mets fan - Bas

I thought I could buy 2k games for $54. Damn... my first order of business would have been making MLB 2k10 less sucky. That way all platforms can have a good MLB game.

  • Grocerystorecan

Holyfcknshit! That's a real deal! (Hey that rhymes :)

  • Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet K

    Holy $%@&!

  • (Zombie) Jolan

Damn. Makes orange box look like a ripoff.

  • Archaotic

That is one huge pack of games. I wonder why 2K would be hyping X-COM all of a sudden, though...hmmmmmmmm...

Paging Ken Levine. I repeat, paging Ken Levine.

  • gloveofpower

Where's Transport Tycoon? That one was the best

    gloveofpower

  • fallen1

Why not have a similar bundle pack for the 360, damn it?!
