    @Crash__Man:
Hi, in english it's known as sonic unleashed. The japanese name having "adventure" does not connect it to the adventure series at all. Unless of course, you are suggesting that sonic rush adventure is part of the series too?

    Lozmaster

  • Crash__Man

@SDreamer: *sigh*... Unleashed IS in the SA series.

in Japan it is known as "Sonic World Adventure" - look it up!

    Crash__Man

  • Xaif

@Derek Rumpler: As far as I'm aware, the way the system does it is by sending your play data (the log that's kept each day on the message board) to Nintendo everytime you load up the Nintendo Channel. For the data collected, I'd say these reports are pretty spot on.

  • Xaif

@njd09: I'd be willing to bet the majority of people who have replied negatively haven't even played the game at all.

pslong9 pretty much describes it exactly. The song choice is dreadful which cannot be denied, and if this game had DLC or even a song maker itself, it would be brilliant.

The core behind the game is solid and there's nothing else like it on the market.

  • Ferkner

@njd09: I played it for about 9 minutes.

    Ferkner

  • Protector one

Where are my standard deviations, Science dammit!?

  • Crash__Man

    @SuperSonik: ...?

    no.

and I'll say for the 80th time, if the new games were just like the old games, everyone would be complaining that they never make anything NEW.

Sonic just isn't "hardcore" enough for the current culture of gaming so everything he does gets torn apart.

there's plenty of QTE in a bunch of really "well received" games now. many of them lack challenge. many of them contain terrible voice acting.

if the game is fun then just enjoy it. if not, go find something you DO enjoy.

me? I dig the Wii. I dig new Sonic games.

    that's still all.

    Crash__Man

  • Azquelt

    @MARl0: Or not

@SuperSonik above put their finger on it:

"Yes. Please note that the old school 2D sonic games, at least the first two, holding right for a prolonged period of time was a fantastic way to game over within minutes. Enemies actually mattered for the first couple of games. After 3 and knuckles, it was all about pits/crushers that insta-killed you. The challenge is different in different ways."

    I still loved Adventure 2...

  • mcderek3000

"All right, kids. The new Sonic game is out. Time to commit 12 more hours."

    "But muuuuuuuuum ... "

@mugamibaku: I just wish I had the time to play for 8 hours at a time.

  • RyuuzakiBjorn

@MisanthropicGamer: Meh, The 2D ones were pretty good and the Sonic Adventure games were good. Sonic Unleashed (well half of it) was alright.

  • Dopeski

@Dope boy hero - on a sabbatical.: Ugh, I hated Secret Rings. But I've hated every Sonic game on a console since Sonic Adventure.

    Dopeski

  • SuperSonik

@Crash__Man: Don't you wish the new ones were a bit more like the old ones though? Don't you miss the challenging level design and not the challenging QTE's or framerate? What about the challenge of tuning out the 12-year-old voice acting and the stories from the bowels of saturday-morning-cartoon purgatory?

    SuperSonik

  • SuperSonik

@death_to_midgets: Yes. Please note that the old school 2D sonic games, at least the first two, holding right for a prolonged period of time was a fantastic way to game over within minutes. Enemies actually mattered for the first couple of games. After 3 and knuckles, it was all about pits/crushers that insta-killed you. The challenge is different in different ways.

Sonic Unleashed for the PS3 had a LOT of potential. There were times where I was truly having fun and enjoying the game. The real question is why is the toy still buried in the bottom of a giant cereal box full of stale cocoa puffs? Throw the terrible story, terrible voice acting, terrible TERRIBLE OMFG GET RID OF THAT WEREHOG, the crappy framerate and cut those QTE's by about 75% and we'll have something here.

We know they can do it (Sonic Team). They just wont. Won't stop me from waiting. It's like us fans of the potential are the lonely, crying wife of a sailor at sea who's been gone since Sonic and Knuckles.

  • nworobes

@Slagathorian: "You need to imagine the songs are better..."
    True.
    "...the graphics are better..."
    True.
    "...the sound quality is better..."
True. Though I'd like to point out that these last two criticisms are purely about presentation, which doesn't amount to much more than bells and whistles. If the designers purposely choose a simplistic graphical style and still execute the game well (think Katamari), I don't see the point in criticising them for it.
"...you need to imagine some kind of purpose for playing the game..."
Hold on, I'll address this criticism when you repeat it 2 seconds from now.
"...you need to imagine there is some kind of point to the game..."
Well, you're right that there aren't really any goals you can complete to win, and there isn't really a way to lose. So by the strictest definition of "game", it isn't one. Nonetheless, the "point" to the game is that you mess around with music. Much like Mario Paint, which last I checked was considered not a complete waste of time, it is completely unlike a normal game, and all you do is exercise your creativity and see what you can make.
"You need to pretend that Wii music is more fun than just sitting in front of youtube, listening to music you actually like and playing air guitar. Or you could pretend to be playing something funner."
This seems as good a time as any to point out that (in addition to the fact that "funner" is not a real word) you seem to not have a good understanding on how Wii Music actually works. You seem to think it's just "Guitar Hero, without the ability to miss notes or get any kind of score." This is not true.
Guitar Hero is a music game, in the sense that it'll appeal to you if you're the kind of guy who buys a guitar and tries to learn to play some Led Zeppelin songs, but never strives to be anything more than a good guitarist, and doesn't have an interest in writing your own songs.
Wii Music is a music game, in the sense that it'll appeal to you if you're the kind of guy who screws around on a piano/keyboard, and actually strives to be a songwriter of some kind. Once you realize that the game gives you considerable control over the arrangement, tempo, rhythms, etc. of the song, it makes more sense that the game doesn't score you or give you ANY feedback; how could it? The music appreciation of the average computer is sorely lacking.

So in closing, yes, if you're the kind of gamer who needs feedback on their performance, like a trained dog thinking "Did I do good?", then yes, Wii Music will never give you that dog treat for your efforts. But if you're the kind of gamer who can use a game to exercise their creativity without any final authority on their success (whether it's with Wii Music, or just "OK guys, let's see who can do the coolest flip off that cliff"), then Wii Music can be a worthwhile use of your time.

@njd09: someone desperately looking for the game part that was clearly missing when it was created.

  • death_to_midgets

@MisanthropicGamer: The original 2d sonics were the bomb, most of the old-gen consoles involved pushing the d-pad in a certain direction for a prolonged amount of time but for some unknown reason most of the games were a hell of alot more challenging, i've never come across a 3d game i havent completed, yet still to this day ghouls and ghosts destroys me everytime, bring back 2d games

  • SadAstronaut

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: I didn't mind the Wii version, the running stages are great. The demo I played on the 360 was much better though, don't see why the Wii one gets higher reviews. If only there was no werewolf....

    SadAstronaut

  • SadAstronaut

@Dope boy hero - on a sabbatical.: I agree. I actually like the Sonic games, but his useless noies and happy exclamations are just annoying. He needs to get a drug habit or something so he can settle down just a bit.

  • GohanGVO

    @Kayonesoft: The latter, I believe.

  • Flashfire

@tehdorkz: if the soundtrack is anywhere near as good as the original, i would support it regardless

  • GohanGVO

@PSOCecil: RB1 sold rather well on the Wii, and I imagine those owners picked up the RB2 *software* only. You cannot do that with GH3 to GH: WT, and peripheral compatibility is far iffier on the Wii than the PS3/360.

  • Wolfers

Wow, I made it 4 hours into Sonic before selling it. I only lost $6, but I wish I had that $6 back. Terrible game.

    Wolfers

  • GohanGVO

@Sl0th: This is not a measure of sales; it is a measure of average time played. Truth be told, this stats could be a measure of 2 million Sonic Riders owners. Or, it could be 20,000.

  • Mienvard

@mugamibaku: Well feel free to dress me right up in that good old straitjacket and send me on my way to Arkham then.

  • Slagathorian

@pslong9: Who didn't like wii music's song list? Twinkle twinkle little star, Happy Birthday and jingle bells, what more does a player need?

And you don't need creativity to make it fun, you need imagination. You need to imagine the songs are better, the graphics are better, the sound quality is better, you need to imagine some kind of purpose for playing the game, you need to imagine there is some kind of point to the game. You need to pretend that Wii music is more fun than just sitting in front of youtube, listening to music you actually like and playing air guitar. Or you could pretend to be playing something funner.

  • susurrate

I played Sonic n the secret rings for about 11 minutes and vowed to never buy another sonic game again.

    susurrate

  • Mienvard

@Shigamado: Personally, I (almost) always play games I don't really like for quite long. Some times games just turn around on you and you end up really liking what you thought was a pain at first. Agreeably the after impression some games gives tend to be simply shite no matter what hope there ever was of something lovable, but overall perseverance will usually tip the scale in favor of at least a single good experiences.

  • Man In Gauze is an obscure refer

@Man In Gauze is an obscure reference to Courage the Cowardl...: Newer, not normal

  • Man In Gauze is an obscure refer

Gah, people only still play GHIII because it was incredibly hard for no reason. At least show Activision that they did a good thing with the charts in the normal Guitar Hero games...

  • TimmiT

@Dope boy hero - on a sabbatical.: Well, there were people that like Sonic & The Secret Rings.
I can't believe though that people played 12 hours of Sonic and the Black Knight. The main story is only 3 hours long, and the gameplay is just waggling your Wii remote and holding forward on the nunchuck most of the time.

    TimmiT

  • Kayonesoft

Is this a per session or cumulative playtime list?

  • Reetesh

Those stats are really something! The fact that Nintendo is giving out those munchy numbers is really awesome! I wonder why others dont do such a good thing!

  • njd09

@pslong9: I've never really played it, but I could understand that if someone really liked to make music, they could play a lot. Still, you're the only person to give me positive feedback on the game, so I remain skeptical.

    @Dr. Horrible:
Playing the Sonic the Hedgehog now makes me realize how much my Sonic skills have declined over the years. I used to be able to get far in that game. Now I get only half as far in the same ammount of time.

I didn't care too much about finishing the game back then. I just wanted to see the pretty stages.

  • SDreamer

Lol! Playing Sonic Unleashed, think I've logged about 10 hours so far right now. Pretty good Sonic game since SA series imo.

    @njd09: *raises hand*

It's actually much, much better than people here think. Of course, you have to have creativity and a musical mindset to really enjoy it. It's also much more complex and has a lot more depth than people think. Yes, the song selection is poor, and it could really benefit from DLC, but otherwise, I think it's excellent.

  • BR4DL3I9H

@Larawen: I was thinking the same thing about Guitar hero, i mean it's a great game but for anyone who has played it for only a few hours means that someone else played it for nearly a 100 hours! That's hardcore.

Reminds me of the time i read a review from someone for monster hunter unite who played Monster hunter for 250 hours and then the sequel for 300 hours and then unite for 460 hours, so they played for over a 1000 hours total, just for MH.

  • Lozmaster

What the hell? I can understand the secret rings and unleashed playtimes because thats ~ the storymode length, but blakcl knight is like 2 hours long. And its the worst 2 hours of sonic game I've ever played. All it proved was that sonic + secret rings should have used the nunchuck.

    Lozmaster

  • tehdorkz

@aaj111: I guess the soothing music combined with that mystifying blue glow your wii gives off makes for a a very pleasant sleep.

  • NeoStarr

@mugamibaku: Been there, done that. You've obviously never played Every Extend Extra Extreme. One round of play on Unlimited mode (the games main play mode) generally lasts me around 6 hours, and I'm not even that good.

  • FriedConsole

  • tehdorkz

@NoobKitten: SSSHHHHHH!! Don't mention that, someone at Sega might get an idea and remake Vectorman for the wii. Can you cope with having to play a Vectorman game in which he transforms into a werepig? Can you?

  • Dope boy hero - on a sabbatical.

@Slagathorian: I used to do that last gen. For some reason it felt okay to leave your console running for hours at a time (sometimes you even forget you had it on) then coming back to play it later. But now I don't even do that because failure rates worry me :P

@Shigamado: It was a bad game, I hated it, yes. I still played it for 10 hours though because it was one of the first games I got for my Wii. I beat it, played those crappy minigames for a laugh with my friends and I was done with it.

It's not surprising that someone played a bad game for a long time, people do it all the time and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

  • Sl0th

@Slagathorian: Truth. My old roommate used to do that with Mega Man 9.

I guess going fast is pretty fun for 10 hours.

But him screaming "YEAH!!!" "WOOOOOOHOOOOO" "AWLRIGHT!!!!!!!!!" everytime you hit a fucking speed boost (seriously sonic? you do it all the time) is enough for me to stop playing.

Dope boy hero - on a sabbatical.

  • kobeashi

@EMPEROR_COW: I had played a lot of Guitar Hero beyond that point, and I think I was starting to get out of the music fad at that point. It seems like everybody and their grandmother is jumping on that bandwagon these days. It's fun, but feels repetitive to me after a certain point.

    kobeashi

  • Slagathorian

@Sl0th: If you're like me though, and find that booting up the old system, logging in, loading your game etc takes too long so you leave it running. I usually just pause my game, and leave for a couple hours at a time, and come back later. These numbers would be the MAXIMUM that they could be.
