@Cov: They're for people like me, that never picked up the original but were still interested in it. I'll probably pick this edition up!

@Cov: I honestly don't know how Valve can get away with releasing a GoTY for Left 4 Dead for $50-$60 when the "bonus" content is already free over XBL marketplace. I bought it clearance at Target for $12 and enjoyed my non-GoTY edition.

For some reason, I am also suddenly interested in this game...kinda. Just hope this version comes out soon before I forget about it.

Smart move by Media Molecule. It'll help with sales of the game and the included DLC is just a bonus for those late-comers who decided to wait a while.

@Arlus00: simple enough it is to encourage more sales of the game. If they just made the content free existing users would grab it but it wouldn't necessarily spur consumers strolling through Target/Bestbuy, the way a new package with BONUS stuff inside, would!

@mrantimatter: Agree wholeheartedly. I like the game otherwise. (As an aside: the new look of the site leaves me feeling awkward)

@Cov: I'm a little concerned, too. There's been a LOT of DLC for this game, but the majority of it has just been little fun, alternate costumes. There hasn't been much substantial, large content adding DLC packs for this game... Not that this is a bad thing, there was plenty of content in the game already, I just don't see there having been enough DLC yet to warrant this GotY Edition.

@Cov: I think it's just their attempt at countering the used game market without dropping their price point insanely low.

Ah. This is what I've been hoping would come out. Wonder if it'll be 60 bucks.... Hopefully there is enough DLC to justify the price. Are there still many people who play this online?

I've been holding off purchasing this game, as I was unsure whether or not I would enjoy it. However, if the pricing is right I believe this may be a great opportunity to see what LBP has to offer and, hopefully, allow me to stretch my creative muscles. :p

@magnakaiser: There's a difference in my opinion between lowering a pricepoint because sales have reached a comfortable margin for them to do so (see also: iPhone generation 1), and releasing the exact same product at the same price (or less), but then throwing in a bunch of extra content that was developed post-production. Is it a great way to attract a new audience? Sure! Am I unhappy with my purchase of the game? Absolutely not! I just don't like the practice of giving out freebies on DLC for people who are late to the party, and ONLY for those folks. Bungie's model of "last year's maps are free when we release this year's" is more ideal, in my opinion, as it makes the content available to everyone who may have waited on the DLC, even if they sprung for the game initially. Edit: Sorry this looks wall-of-text, it's not showing carriage returns between paragraphs.

@Cov: As for Oblivion, not only does it include a $30 expansion (plus Knights of the Nine, which is what, $10-15?), not to mention the PS3 version at least is far less buggier than the original. As for me, I just bought a PS3 recently, and I held back on the original Fallout3 because I knew a GOTY edition was coming. I can't imagine anyone buying both of them, though.

Damnit again! I held out in dropping $75 for the original Persona, just in time for Atlus to announce a PSP remake. Instead I bought the original LBP! Can't win 'em all, I guess.

@haseoreo: You won't be displeased. I recently returned to this game and discovered that the library of user-made levels is becoming quite impressive.

@doubtful: I agree with you, it is rather annoying. I brought this on release day, and pre ordered it, I should have recieved a T-shirt for pre ordering but I didn't, at least I got a sackboy in their youtube promotion though. I suppose they did kind of reward early addopters with limited edition costumes for free, such as at christmas and such though.

This is good news. Buts sucks when I have bought the game already.

Great. I've owned a copy for about 4 months now, unopened (waiting for a PS3 price drop so I can buy one). Is this content worth it for me to sell my copy on ebay?

@haseoreo: It is a great game and the cuteness factor is through the roof. It's the easiest game out of my collection to just turn on for a bit and play a couple of levels. Most other games are heavy and you kind of have to commit at least an hour or two if you are playing them. Also the offline multiplayer is great (not a big fan of the online because you can't see reactions to screwing people over)

Is this going to include any of the holiday costumes that are no longer available? It would be nice to have another method of getting them, but would also kind of ruin the uniqueness of them. I was never really able to get into the game, but for some reason I still enjoy downloading all the (free) costumes, they're just so adorable.

@mrantimatter: The jumping isn't that bad guys, you've just got to get used to it. The only thing I hate is when online lag causes you to miss a jump.

On one hand, I'm well aware that publishers feel the need to offer more for less to people who haven't purchased a game already.

On the other hand, isn't this trend a little frustrating for those who rush out on day one to buy these games? Isn't this actively training gamers to wait for the special editions or GOTY re-releases before purchasing?

I think from now on I will have to restrict myself to renting most new titles as I wait for the more fully featured re-releases to hit the shelves.

Why re-package it with DLC when you can just make the specific DLC free online and save the trouble of re-pressing more discs?

Great, now not only we get the game, but aditional content, what would be funny is getting some user created levels that delete upon installation.

@Cov: I've never repurchased a game I already bought for the enhanced features, but as this is becoming a disturbing norm, I'm all but done buying games when they launch, and done with DLC. I feel like I'm the punchline of the publishers' joke every time one of these comes out.

why oh why, every game i get now a days comes out with dlc and a disc with the game and dlc on it, i want a rockband annual disc with all the dlc on that disc from that year then ill be happy

@Cov: Just putting it out there that the Left 4 Dead GotY edition extra is a small free download. It unlocks maps for use in a game mode called Survivors.

@Cov: I'm pretty sure it's aimed at people who don't already have the game. I know I've benefited from deals like this before. I picked up Age of Empires 2 bundled with its expansion pack, which was what sealed the deal. Plus MGS3: Subsistence, which added a ton of new content. I have no idea how well these reissues tend to sell compared to the original releases though.

If it comes with the paintanator as well or just stand alone that's a good enough reason to get. I probably will come with a lot of the DLC up through April or May.

@mrantimatter: And also waaaaay more fun in offline multiplayer. :)

@Cov: In bethesda's case the GOTY might actually function. Both of my house mates put in 30+ hours into that game before a glitch prevented them from continuing the main story. Bethesda releases games that could be considered glitchy, even for a beta.

@Cov: These are geared towards new customers, perhaps giving them that extra push to buy. It worked for me with Oblivion. I was on the fence still, leaning towards a purchase but also looking at other games. Then the GOTY edition came out and it was such a great deal with all that extra content that it tipped me over to the purchase. I think th logic is that if you are the type that buys DLC, these bundles represent a pretty good value for your money since you are getting a bunch of free content. Otherwise you'd be shelling out extra cash after purchase, making the game more expensive than titles without a lot of DLC, and thus perhaps not as enticing to the consumer.

@Cov: Well I played the demo and really enjoyed the game but found the controls sloppy and level selection a bit hit or miss. The multiplayer ( demo ) was horrible for lag and timing out issues. So with all that I decided to wait on this game. Also it appears that they are mostly focused on adding costumes instead of porper levels and content, again i waited. With this re-release including alot of the dlc I am once again interested, but will wait and see what the price is. If its $40 or less I will grab it for sure. Yes there are a fair number of people like me that just can't afford to buy alot of these games at the current $70 (CDN) price tag. Ive recently picked up Deadly Creatures, Madworld, and Burnout Paradise all due to the reduced prices.

@Thoughtwitness: your TV handles 1080i but not 720p? If so, that's the worst TV ever.

@mrantimatter: I hate the game for this reason alone. If a platformer has shitty jumping, the game sucks. I have no idea how they messed that up. Rag Doll Kung Fu is garbage too, so I'm really not surprised in hindsight. I'm sorry I bought this game. Fix the jumping and I'll proly love it. Platformers are fun because of jumping and very little else.

Glad I held off on picking up that PS3 with LittleBigPlanet bundled with it. I hope the God of War DLC comes with this {crosses fingers for luck}

@VenomIreland: I had great fun trying to get my head round some of the advanced features, It can be an extremely easy or infuriatingly difficult game depending on how much time you are willing to put into it. I think alot of DLC on PSN is overpriced and it wont sell as well as Sony want it to until they roll out the pre paid cards. No complaints about quality or quantity.

Now I might have to buy this game!

Sometimes waiting for games totally pays off! I might be picking up a PS3 by August (my second, returned the first) and I want this game in its entirety!

the only real downside to the game is the jump physics always felt a bit loose. makes getting some of the jumps really more difficult then they should be.

@Norellicus: Do you get mad when you buy a game new for 60 and then a year later it's less? This happens with all games. I have lots of games + expansion packs I probably spent 70-80 bucks on when they were new and now they retail boxed for like 50 or less. That's just the way game sales have gone since forever.

@Joe Lengerich: Are you looking to get the game and only a few dlcs? Try ebay or amazon if you havent, they usually go for $20.

Hooray! I had a feeling this was going to happen once talks of the sequel started coming to light. Here's hoping it's priced for the Greatest Hits line.

@Zaylex: If I understand your question correctly, a game doesnt have to be the game of the year to have the GOTY title on their box. Usually a game of the year edition means that it would have plentiful of extras, like the Fallout 3 GOTY edition for ps3 coming out this year will include all the DLCs currently available for the PC/360. Just in case, a greatest hits game is similar to the original game but now it is reduced in price.

Much of the DLC, eh? I guess that makes sense. Got to leave something for the newcomers to buy.

This game deserves good sales. It's ironic how the most creative industry-pushing games sometimes just don't sell as well as you would want.

@Cov: I think the strategy is to bring in new fans to the series. By packaging more content in this new version of the game, it might just entice someone who passed on the original version.

As long as it has GOTY on the packaging it will help sales. This game deserves so much better sales than it currently has. Even some of the user created content has become more enjoyable to play than the levels the devs have made. It would be nice if they included some of the limited edition DLC that is no longer available and the MGS level pack. And creating levels can be so much fun if you take the time to master the creation process.

@Norellicus: It's basically like having a platinum release, except rather than dropping the price by a lot they just drop it a little and add the content. To be fair it's not too bad a business practice and you chose to buy it early.

Are there any requirements that must be fulfilled before being able to come out with a GOTY edition to a game? I mean, it seems like every year there's 7 games that claim to be "Game of the Year". Is it just based on the fact that it was named "GOTY" by one online and/or print publication? If so, that's kinda misleading.

@Cov: I've only ever done it once. I bought the elder scrolls 3: morrowind goty but I don't like doing it really since you're then paying mostly for what you already have.

The DLC they include either needs to be the already free content or they need to make the content they include free from PSN, imo. Quite frankly it's not cool that I spend $60+3+3+3+3 ad infinitum for what they can get for a flat $60 (or maybe less!) :/

Im guessing if it sells for $50 with all of the DLCs from last november till august, that'll be a steal.

I'd really like to know if doing this makes a big difference to the general consumer. Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, Oblivion, (the list goes on) all have game of the year re-releases with more dlc. Do people who already have the game and don't have net connection re-buy these games? Or are these re-releases for people who haven't bought it yet? I'd of thought everyone who was interested in dlc and extra content would of already bought that game.

Sweet. I sold off my LBP to get my DSi. If this is bundled with MGS DLC then I will surely pick it up. When it's around $40 or less.

bah! I already have two copies of this game (one from Japan that I got on release day due to shortages in the UK and a UK version I recently bought for the DLC)... had I known they'd release a GOTY edition I'd have waited a bit longer before buying another version... Oh well, this is an excellent opportunity for new adopters of the PS3 and anyone who missed this game the first time around! it's one of the defining games of this generation people! move move move!
