Milla Jovovich Confirms “Number Four”

Chatter is swirling that the newest Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, is aiming for a September 17, 2010 release. Last night, Milla Jovovich said this to a crowd of paprazzi:

We’re going to start shooting at the end of the year.

It’s hard to hear exactly what Jovovich was asked to prompt that response. (Though the minute of footage of her droning on and on about her child? We can here that just fine.)

A paprazzi follows up Jovovich’s reply by asking, “Which one is this?” Gesturing, Jovovich said, “Four.”

One insider reports that Jovovich confirmed to him directly that she has signed on to do Resident Evil: Afterlife and filming will start at the end of the year.

My first instinct is to comment that the Resident Evil movies should be more focused on Zombies rather than how they've done it so far with Zombies essentially being the 'wallpaper' of the movies. the first few games were about Zombies - but the movies really lost that. Now the games have gone and lost the Zombie aspect as well, sure great game play, but we really need more Zombies in both the movies and the games.

@Archaotic: She is so hot... Was in dazed and confused, is an artist, made music. Yum.

  • madpowerbomber

@Shinta: The remake or the original? The original Day of the Dead was fantastic and is my favorite of the three pictures (Night, Dawn, Day). Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead were his most recent efforts, and while not being nearly as good as the original three, were still better than most other things with zombies in them nowdays.

The Day of the Dead remake... I won't watch. The Dawn remake was bad enough.

@stoneteen: so you want Capcom to go out of business then? Degeneration sucked balls as a movie, the only reason it got any kind of success is because it was canon for the RE series and people thought it might give clues as to what RE5 was about.
@Griefy: no game really translates to film. Instead of following the game to fault and making a really bad movie, at least these guys did the smart thing, took the main points and made a half decent movie out of them.

@Sakilla: I totally agree. Watch the behind the scenes footage from RE2. She's totally insane lol. Also, if you ever just see her talk normally, in a normal outfit, she's pretty much insanely hot. Honestly, her hotness isn't really that disputable considering she was a super model for a while. She's obviously gotten older, but she's still super hot.

i remember when i signed up to do the "Apocalypse" poster contest......

..... and actually gave up before i even got started, BECAUSE of all the RIDICULOUS guidelines Sony pictures DEMANDED THAT YOU FOLLOW.

basically, Milla had to be "larger" than anyone else in the poster.... she had to be front and center.... nothing could block her or her face..... you could NOT under any circumstances NOT have her in the poster..... etc.... etc.

I was also surprised by how much I also disliked Degeneration, though. Instead of rehashing the plot for the second game and making it take place in an airport, why didn't they just make the script reflect the entire second game? Maybe the series was never meant to translate cleanly into a narrative.

  • synapticflow

I think I'd rather see a film version of Dead Rising.
Sure you could say Dawn of the Dead was that, but only on the surface. There was so much more going on in Dead Rising. Not Oscar winning material but definitely more than just zombies.

More importantly, it didn't feature mega hentai tentacle zombies or giant monsters of any kind. Just zombies and crazy people. I don't mind that.

  • Kristopher.W

  • Fede17

@RtFusion: Don't say it... maybe in this next one there will actually be "sparkling vampires"!

  • Sakilla

@Archaotic: All I've ever heard is that Milla is a tiny girl that is buck and really fit, ready to go, and wants to do her own dangerous stunts to the point in which the director says, "No, it's too dangerous." I think that's pretty awesome action star material right there. Who needs acting in an action film...it's nice, but you don't really get it usually anyways. I think Milla is way more exotic and interesting than Megan Fox (although at least she schooled Bay in one of her latest comments).

  • Makidian

@EderC: You got your plots and characters jumbled together there, but generally...yeah.

@Comban: Gender development does not occur until fairly late in the gestation period. Nipples first form at week 9, the pre-foetal period. Genital development does not occur for another three weeks.

The point that they serve on men is that had they the correct chemical/hormonal compostition they would have formed breasts with functional lactating glands. They are similar to the appendix in that they are vestigal and are a throwback to our early evolution or development.

Note to Purple Dave: In a universe polpulated by species of wildly differing appearance (blue skin, scaly skin, being a fat robot duck thing) the phrase "Perfect Being" probably does not refer to her aesthetic appearance and more to the quality of her character.

I'm gonna make a leap here and suggest that your teeth fixation is due to you being from America and while this does not apply to all Americans, you are clearly the type of American who perfectly fits the sterotype of being image obsessed to the point that you would prefer someone had a "perfect" set of plastic teeth than healthy natural ones. There's a place that you can find a group of such "perfect" people, it's called Madamme Tussauds, the people there never age and all have the same shiny, bland features that you covet so much. @[ZTF]214A, 2A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 214B, 214D: No offense to Chris Tucker, since I actually kinda like Rush Hour, but yeesh, he made me want to tear my ears off with a cheese grater in the Fifth Element.

  • General Chase King of the Woodch

@SenileProfessorOak: Thank you for that RE5 quote.

    Speaking of which and spoiler:

That is a pretty shitty way of Wesker being killed at the end of 5. I refuse to believe he is dead.

    Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky

@Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky: Those are what we call nipples but that's really all she has. No chest at all.

  • Griefy

@stoneteen: Sadly Degeneration wasn't all that great either but it followed RE at least. >.> Really, the games do not translate to film at all. Most games don't make that transition well because its 2 completely different mediums and usually the writer seems to not know shit about the source material. Just slap on a brand name.

I should take my pen to paper and just right a god damn Jello movie staring Bill Cosby.

@CitizenErased115: If you ever get the chance, read Romero's original script for Resident Evil, from back before Anderson butchered it. Aside from a few details, it's VERY honorable to the source material, and makes me think that Romero actually (gasp) played the fucking game before writing it.

  • LtdEdLoser

Oh good. Another installment of this monument to mediocrity.

  • [ZTF]214A, 2A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 2

@Archaotic: Awwe, c'mon. The eunuch screeching kept me quite entertained.

  • NoobKitten

@RtFusion: and I thought I was the only person who actually liked that movie.

  • Thief

Hot tip: In the second RE movie... zombies burst out from underground at the graveyard and attacked the humans.

How could the corpses get infected while they were safely sealed underground in their coffins you say? The answer is.. Hollywood!

  • M*A*S*H

@Archaotic: I think you answered your own question. Also, you forgot gary oldman. Clearly, you are not the sort of person who would ask about the little red button.

  • NitroAML

@Archaotic: Don't you dare bring Megan Fox into this! I will smite you with the wrath of 1000 Autobots! . . . or something.

@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under):

While you do have a point, I don't think you can make that judgment unless you're well acquainted with her.

For the record, I do find her very attractive.

  • CitizenErased115

Mila is definately attractive but. The Resident Evil movies are a huge let down. Fans expected to see survival horror instead they get some clone with God Mode enabled break dancing over Zombie dogs. At least that's what I got out of it. The original Dawn of the Dead by George Romero is the definition survival horror. I would've loved to see George Romero's version of Resident Evil. Shame they chose Anderson over Romero.

  • NoobKitten

@Firelance: She looked alot better in UltraViolet. Must have been that straight long black hair.....*drool*

  • lilsamuraijoe

@Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky: Dammit I didn't see your comment.

  • RtFusion

    @SenileProfessorOak:

I gave up on game to movie adaptations when I first saw Doom.

Then Max Payne came out, I didn't mind Wahlberg, I was entertained, but they screwed up the story hard.

Max Payne will be the last game-to-film film I'll see in theatres.

I might catch the 4th RE on DVD.

  • Strom Thurmond

@Archaotic: Apparently Jovovich can speak Serbian, so she's got me sold. Ain't nothing sexier than Serbian.

  • Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky

@Michael Dukakis - Mets fan - Leader: You should really get that checked out by a doctor.

    Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky

  • Archaotic

@Ueziel: Ugh, the Fifth Element. I do not understand what people like about that movie; aside from Bruce Willis being Bruce Willis, it had Bilbo Baggins being a creepy old man, Jovovich's Oscar-caliber "moron acting", and Chris Tucker screeching like an eunuch for two hours.

Why is that movie a cult classic again?

  • yeOldeTimeyGamer

    @NitroAML:

.....(I don't think so), perhaps you think otherwise (I respect your opinion), but...why (am I talking like Captain Kirk).

  • RtFusion

    @Archaotic:

Yes, a terrible film indeed it will. I do like her though, but not for her acting abilities. She was, however, passable in The Fifth Element.

@Archaotic: I'd imagine most people remember Jovovich from when she was in Fifth Element, where she was mostly naked and wet. And somewhat mentally retarded.

  • Jellopnik

This is awesome news. Glad to heear she's on board. So hawt.

I like Milla Jovovich, subpar actor though.

*sigh* at least there are no sparkling vampires in that film.

Oooh, I can't wait for Daybreakers. A proper vampire film for the 21st century.

  • InconspicuouslyUninspiring

    @Firelance:

    Yay!

    I am t3h first!

  • Archaotic

@ghostadv: This is also very important. But as Megan Fox can attest to, moviegoers will put up with half-baked acting as long as you're pretty enough.

Then again, I've never seen Fox in anything but the original Transformers so maybe she's actually a decent actress outside. I dunno.

  • Chances

    @Firelance: Yay!
    More Milla.

  • NitroAML

Guys don't trash it yet! Resident Evil 4(The game) is the best Resident Evil and turned things around for the franchise. Maybe Resident Evil 4(The Movie) will turn things around like the 4th game did.

  • yeOldeTimeyGamer

So is Resident Evil 4 actually going to be a resident Evil film this time?

  • Game_Munkee

    Ummm why?

  • Michael Dukakis - Mets fan - Bas

@Archaotic: So she's less then a four for you. Get it?

  • EderC

    /yawn.

First RE = semi-entertaining and tolerable.
RE: Extinction = a tad better due to the fan service we received in the form of seeing the actual S.T.A.R.S. team and Nemesis go at it. Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine? Nerdgasmic in more ways than one.
RE: Apocalypse = what the hell's going on? Is that Ashanti? Not anymore it's not.

  • Sammo21

Fantastic. A fourth decent in mediocrity and low standards.

"I'd buy that for a dollar."

  • Archaotic

I still don't find Milla Jovovich even the slightest bit attractive. I don't get why she's always the super mega awesome heroine of the films when she has no clear inspiration in the games.

Oh, wait, she's fucking the director, which means she gets to be God, Jesus, and Albert Wesker all rolled into one. Ugh.

  • Strom Thurmond

@user_21938: A zombie angrily bursts in only to be told to take a seat. It gives a sigh, and places its rotting flesh on an uncomfortable folding chair.

  • ittekimasu

was she susposed to say that? guess we'll find out if they kill off her character at the start of the movie.

  • user_21938

I want to fifth one to be called Resident Evil: Purgatory, where everyone just kind of sits around in an awkward silence for 2 hours.

    user_21938

  • Michael Dukakis - Mets fan - Bas

Is she holding a "sword" made out of cardboard and silver spray paint?

  • Lezard

At this point, how do these movies resemble the games in any way?

  • Firelance

    Yay!
    New RE film.

    Firelance

  • Molly O'Poverty

I think the RE series is way better than it needed to be and way better than I expected. Even RE3, which was not as good as the first two, was still more watchable than most of the scifi/zombie horror out there. I was impressed with the first one and watched the second with passing intrigue. The first I dutifully rented (after paying to see the first two in theatres).

  • RevengaSweet

    Cool. Another bad movie.

    RevengaSweet

  • Cyborc

well, i still need to see the first three.
