How does Game Informer, that weak toilet read that I only receive because of the Gamestop discount, get so many scoops? Every single month they've beat everyone, even the internet game journalists, to the punch.

How does it outlast EGM? I call shenanigans. Their reviews are lax, and I'm willing to bet (though cannot prove) that they trade scoops for review scores like so many of the industry.

While I know that Batman will not be on the cover of their review issue (another scoop will reside there), it will be interesting to see if their review is a 9.

@EGBTMagus: Every protagonist seem to be looking the same, Modern Warfare 2 has a guy that looks like that too, what's with it?

Agh, so many good games on the medium-term horizon (Rage, Elder Scrolls V, The Last Guardian) and not a hell of a lot for me this summer until Red Faction hits PC.

From what I have seen, these types of previews are more in the vein of interviews and early playable demos - standard stuff for the industry. The only difference is that one group sees and reports on it before anyone else.

These pieces may perhaps be a bit overly positive (which is not uncommon in this industry at all), but it is not as if anyone - consumers nor critics - are making a final judgment on the game due to an early look.

And unlike Eidos, Id settles for the usual exclusive preview pics/info for cover story deal. Does this type of arrangement compromise a magazine, or not? Discuss. Not sure why, I'm having to promote my own comments? Anyone else having that issue? Same thing if I reply to a comment, I have to promote my reply and the OP manually.

John Carmack never disappoints, so I can't wait to see what new tech he came up with. Always the innovator.

WTF with the space marine! I bet some rookie designer said "hey guys, lets try something new". Then the team snickered and said "this rookie won't last long." Enter Carmack "We invented the GD space marine and by hell we are going to use it to death!"

I was really excited for this game, but that image really took the wind out of the sails for me.

Finally something more concrete on id's new IP and engine. I have my doubts about a 2010 release from a company as notorious as Valve for saying "It's ready when it's done."

Game Informer continues to be my favorite game magazine, and it's in depth exclusives that hit in nearly every issue is a big part of why. Can't wait to get this new issue!!

Grizzled Space Marine type? Check.
Brown/Grey palette? Check.
First Person Perspective? Check.

Looks like it's shaping up nicely.
