New Lost Planet 2 Screens

While there were giant bugs in the first Lost Planet, all I remember are snowstorms and robot suits. Looking at these new screens of Lost Planet 2, it’s OK, Capcom, I get it: in the sequel, there are giant bugs.

    I agree...really don't see why so many loved the MP. I tried it three or four times to see if it would grow on me but I just thought it sucked.

    @Niric: I suppose a caveat to all this is that I can only refer to my my standards, not everyone else's. My contention is that calling Lost Planet perfect is a stretch, but only objectively speaking. One's preferences will ultimately decide the subjective quality of a game. As for what I disliked most, I will paste from a review I wrote the things I did not like:

    "The story is definitely the weakest part of the game. The main character, Wayne, is found by 'Snow Pirates' (Luka, Mike, and Yuri) frozen inside his Vital Suit (mecha), VS for short. When he wakes up, he has amnesia, but remembers that a creature called Green Eye killed his father (here we go), and now Wayne seeks revenge! From there, the story is a choppy, hole-riddled affair that bounces around and fails to detail a great many things. For instance, Wayne's arm is special, in that it converts Thermal Energy into life force. When Wayne is first found, one of the pirates notices it and decides to keep it a secret.

    Later, Wayne and the female pirate are in this dome place, when another VS pilot shows up with the same kind of arm that Wayne has, which the female pirate (Luka) is kind enough to point out. The problem with this is that Yuri is the one that saw the arm, and we never see an instance where Luka learns about it, and it isn't elaborated upon. There's also a part in the game where they jump ahead one year with minimal explanation of what went on during that year. It all follows a distinctly Japanese archetype, which translates poorly from east to west. Hopefully, someday, someone will be able to fix this issue."

    "Occasionally there are spots where it's iffy as to whether the game recognizes you're near a weapon, causing it to blink. Unfortunately, the button to attach the weapon is the same button used to exit the suit, so if you miss a weapon, you have to exit and re-enter the VS, which takes a good chunk of time."

    "Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of clipping in this game; for instance, you can blow up a tower, have a giant beam fall on you, and you'll be fine. Objects pass through other objects without so much as a bump."

    "Your enemies tend to stand there, shooting at you occasionally and not bother to move to cover 90% of the time. The bosses, while challenging due to size and power, don't necessarily react to you as much as they go through pre-programmed actions at seemingly random intervals."

    Is everyone now back down to earth with this games graphics? These screens don't look half as good as that E3 trailer. Maybe it just needs to be seen in motion but I think that Capcom realized that they were trying to do too much.

    Besides the giant dragon demon bug.. It also looks like a new mech suit will be in the game.

    Looks like its something built for speed..

    Man I tell ya what, this is one of the games besides Bio shock 2, that I know I will buy.

    *Sighs* I wish I could hop forward into the future.. I'd so be playing these games right now.

    I loved Lost Planet Deathmatch. I don't know why more console shooters don't have quick turn buttons. Hopefully the quick turn survives the sequel!

    Hmmmm, guess I should go try our the first one, eh?

    @Kazaam_McFresh: Tetris is just Pong with different shaped blocks

  • Niric

    @LandMineLandSnake: Indeed it is, and that's what makes it so damn awesome. The first one was close enough to Monster Hunter with guns, for me to thoroughly enjoy. However, Lost Planet 2, could possibly take the #2 spot right below monster hunter on my 'favorite games of all time' at the rate its shaping up.

    @user_21938:

    Define: 'jumbled mess'. This complaint doesn't really give us much as far as substance to what you didn't like about the game.

    To me, it doesn't get better than lost planet when it comes to a 3rd person gunning game. A complex, 3rd person shooter with access to grappling hooks, giant robot vehicles, and detachable giant robot weapons to be used on your person. Not to mention their unique weapon types. Those things are beyond great for gameplay elements for me. Lost planet isn't your average log in and frag fest shooter. You really need to think about what you're doing to get kills, and play smart.

    Plus... Now that they're taking the Monster Hunter, giant monster fights, and co-op style detail to the max, Lost Planet 2 couldn't possibly be anymore of a perfect game to add to my collection.

    I really like that LP2 is moving out of the snow environment (and annoying heat system) and adding co-op. I might actually get the game this time 'round.

  • yodaddy

    Lookin really good!

  • FranksnBeans

    I'm kinda feelin' a little "tingly" down low now!

    REALLY enjoyed the single-player aspect of the first game. Multi-player blew, IMO.

    The prospect of co-op'ing this sucker is exciting.

  • jeezy103

    Jeez.. i've barely even played the 1st game...found it a tad too boring....with mediocre MP.

  • skik08

    @tobz1000: lol yea. except killzone 2 had better graphics.

  • JSPOOLE

    If it dumps the whole ''collect energy to live'', this could be great.

    The first had some good elements, let down by a poor storyline, voice acting, and the tedious energy collecting to survive.

    If this can amend all that, I'm in.

    BTW are there any artic enviroments in this one at all?

  • tobz1000

    Does #5 remind anyone else of a certain level in Killzone 2?

    @Ben9: The T-Eng was a flawed sadistic principle.

    Please let it not be anything to do with the player's life.

    Especially inside a fkn volcano.

  • zanzibarlegend

    @Witzbold:i agree, this game is looking better by the day. just hope they do multiplat simult- release.

    @Ferkner: oh no you didn't. lemme guess.... you beat Lost Planet 2 already? can i borrow plz?

  • user_21938

    @Witzbold: A less mediocre attempt at combining Japanese storytelling with Western action. The last one was a jumbled mess that, if I didn't actually understand what they were trying to go for, I'd think they were phoning a lot of it in.

    @Witzbold: Dont forget grappling hooks!

    Also, am I the only one that feels like this game could use some snow?

  • kadjin

    @Ferkner: Oh SNAP!

  • Ben9

    @acidpits: Not too sure, but one thing that I hated in the first LP was the fact that jumping drained your TE considerably faster.

  • bigfatone

    @CarlMarssilas13: Seconded- except for the grapple hook ability in the first one i felt it was pretty lame. At least the sequel looks a wee bit more visually diverse. not enough for me to buy it before it hits the bargain bins tho..

    @Witzbold: Originality?

  • ShaggE wants to join the Egg Cou

    @CarlMarssilas13: Don't worry, I'm with you on that. I liked the multiplayer, but the campaign felt like a budget-rack shooter.

  • acidpits

    This certainly looks prettier than the first game, which I still enjoyed greatly - how is the whole 'keeping warm' thing going to work in this title? I hear the Thermal Energy is simply used to charge weapons.

  • n00b_pwner

    I hope that the multiplayer would be even better than LP1. LP1 had some of the best multiplayer of anygame I have ever played. It was slow, but it was smooth. It reminded me of MechAssault. Sadly, nobody plays the first game that much anymore. :(

  • MDX

    Hated the first one but I'll give it a shot.

  • LandMineLandSnake

    It's just Monster Hunter, with Guns.

  • Witzbold

    I am so looking forward to this game, since it looks FUCKING FANTASTIC!

    Upgraded graphics, larger bosses and 4 player co-op! What more could one ask for?

  • CarlMarssilas13

    Hmm I don't know still looks very genric, to me...

    I can't wait to get my 4P co-op sessions going in this game.

    Despite LP1 being Single Player and pretty tough at points, I enjoyed it.

    And by them saying they took Player Feedback seriously, this game should have even better game play.

    Any info on the Demo Release Date? I wonder how many hours i'll put into playing the demo. 4P Co-op with a whole bunch of different friends, i'll make sure everyone enjoys this game and will purchase it.

    Nice, I really enjoyed the first game. Looking forward to this one.
