Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Expands With New DLC, Ultimate Sith Edition
LucasArts announced at today’s Star Wars Spectacular a new batch of downloadable content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed that will take players to Tattooine and Hoth, meeting characters like Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi.
The expansion will have players once again assuming the role of the Secret Apprentice from The Force Unleashed, now serving the Emperor and tasked with eliminating the few remaining Jedi—Obi-Wan and Skywalker, for example—altering the established Star Wars story line further. The DLC’s trailer posed the question “What if the dark side won?”
LucasArts will also release Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition during the Holiday 2009 season, a special edition of the game featuring the original title, plus the already available downloadable content, plus an exclusive level.
The publisher also has plans for PC and Mac versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed planned for later this year.

@dansyndrome:
They are not obliterating the story line at all, this franchise is a "what if".
@Sabbatai: I've only played the demo, but I do believe there is a targeting mode where you stand in one spot and use the analog stick (one of them, I forget which) to cycle between targets. In the demo itself, I never used it, but it was nice knowing that it was there.
Agreed the DLC better have Hoth to or otherwise whats the piont in paying for a unfinished product given Hoth looks like where you would fight Luke?
@mcderek3000: I completely agree!
I'm almost guaranteed to get the PC version when it's released!
@dansyndrome: You realize this is an alternate timeline, don't you? The Sith ending was merely showing you what could have been, and the two DLC missions set after the Sith ending are clearly non-cannon as well...
Had you played the game, and gotten the cannon ending, you'd know that this isn't affecting the storyline whatsoever.
I enjoyed it. It was flawed. But still, as far as Star Wars action games go, it was one of the better ones out there... and it got some things very right. I also enjoyed the alternate take on Star Wars lore. As far as the re release goes, they better make that Hoth level available thru DLC or I'm gonna be mad. I bought the game when it first hit. Why punish me for being an early adopter. I don't mind DLC, but I do mind putting something on a disc I already own and not providing current owners the chance to grab it digitally... but then again, how many times have I bought the Star Wars movies.... I guess it is the Lucas way.
I cant wait to get some play time with this DLC, looks extremely promising, Force Unleashed is one of my favorite title for the PS3. DLC is a great way for a game to stay alive and well for quite some time ! I hope they will do the some for Infamous !
@dansyndrome:
Watch the blasphemy home boy. Anyway, this game was fun util I had problems with some of the bosses attacking from off the screen. I realy enjoyed it though, so I should just buy I guess. I hear its cheap now. Or maybe the rereleased verion will be cheap too. Time shall tell!
In many ways, "The Star Wars" represents Lucas Arts' "Madden" series of games: a new version arrives promptly every season, its got a couple roster updates, a few new "moves", better graphics, a massive media saturation campaign, and inevitably, if you are a fan, it winds up in your hands.
Innovation? meh. But fans are still fans, and they will enjoy the near perfect recreation of the real world stadiums (Tatooine, Hoth, Korriban) & opportunity to play for their favorite "team" ie: light, dark, or Scoundrel "tweener".
I say "Bring 'em On", the more of The Star Wars the Better, and stop whining like a bunch of Tashi Station-bound Lukes...
whitestagg2k
i liked it and now that it's got all the all the old DLC plus the new shat i'll be grabbing it
@DeeBG: BUT! If Lucasarts manages to pack a good SDK into the PC version, then we might see some good stuff coming out of it.

@SphericalCrusher:
Krakn3Dfx
@Zerorush:
I'm sure they'll sell you the Hoth stuff as DLC once they've had all the people who are willing to rebuy the entire game pay for it again.
Krakn3Dfx
I had to seriously stop myself from buying the DLC as the XBL Deal of the week. I'm glad I waited.
@zanzibarlegend: Games have done it before... ;)
Fix the bugs first please, that way it could somewhat enjoyable experience.
@Mr. Mew: That's a bit before my time haha.
Jesus christ man they are just obliterating the friggin story lines, what a silly mess and thorough raping of canon.
BOOO HISSS!
@LCOS: It wasn't about game breaking bugs for me. More control schemes that were clearly not tested before release. the amount of times I fell off ledges from the way-to-eager jump mechanic or the constant moving forward from tapping the attack button was just too much. And lets not forget the star destroyer take down, which should have been the coolest sequence in the game, it was instead ruined by the most ridiculous controls ever.
Lemming
They better not be re-selling this for $60 again. I'm a hairsbreadth away from picking up a $20 new copy at GS.
Squirrelbot3000
Please have Trophy support. Please have Trophy Support.
@VedetteIshcabibble: I should hope so. Personally, I have only ever solid one game that I bought- Gran Turismo 3. And that's because I hated it with the fire of a thousand suns.
@Paradox me: Yup. PC version = Yay! :D
@SphericalCrusher: word up, can i haz trophies when the game re-releases? thx lucasarts
LETS HEAR IT FOR THE RELEASE OF A GAME THATS ONE GIANT MEH! MEH! COME ON ONCE MORE WITH FEELING MEHHH!
Oh good, so another time I can beat this game in a rental.
@ATimson: Of course, you're right. I shouldn't pretend there aren't reasonable considerations as to why Splinter Of The Mind's Eye turned out the way it did. I'm just comparing the two final products. I was actually impressed with the job they did, telling TFU's story.
My question is: will my save file from the original Force Unleashed work with this new version? Somehow I doubt not, but here's to wishful thinking. Oh well, if anything, maybe I could score some more achievement points out of it.
foolio1
@LCOS:
funny as a remake of the SNES game Turtles in time comes out in a week or two i think
metallicorphan
@cottonrabbit:
The difference is, the machines and graphics cards are far more affordable and widespread now, than they were a year ago.
They probably want to take advantage of the physics GPUs now, and since it has matured, they can.
will the re-release have trophy support because ive already beat this game about 10 times now
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under):
I would get the PS360 version. For the price it is now, it is WELL worth it IMO.
The story is fantastic, and should be experienced with the nice graphics on the PS3 or 360.
@ForrestCypselus:
Recommended.
@DrunkAus: Quad cores are now like 486's were back in the old days.
Kudos to Lucasarts for releasing a PC version! Better Nate than lever!
I was a great fan of the Dark Forces series back in the day. Seeing more quality Star Wars adventures with high production values (although the cutscenes from Jedi Knight 1 did have their own unique charm) would be great fun.
mcderek3000
@DustoMan: We can only hope. That's the only thing that stopped me from finishing it on the hardest difficulty. I had to do it on easy FFS
@metallicorphan: *crosses fingers for JarJar biopic
I never got past the star destroyer level. Sadly, I would pay for DLC that let me skip that part. Pathetic, I know.
Sullyville
I played the demo and enjoyed it, would anyone recommend this game to me?
ForrestCypselus
@ATimson: Since the end of 2008? HA! I think not my friend. Crysis was released in 2007 remember....
@tehdorkz:
the original..announcement at the beginning of the week said that there would be 'several announcements'..so hopefully this is just the first,and my dreams of SWBF3 can still come true
metallicorphan
@EnigmaNemesis:
Eh, there hasn't really been any new hardware that have made current pc's significantly better than pc's from a year ago. A year ago we already had 4870's and gtx280's, which are still at or near the top of the single gpu benchmarks. The 4850, a very mainstream gamer gpu has only gotten maybe $30 cheaper. I am certain that the recommended specs for this game will be far below top of the line computers from 2008.
Lucas Art's was BS'ing plain and simple.
cottonrabbit
@EnigmaNemesis: Care to tell him which version to get? Wii or PS360? I never played the game and will never play anything Star Wars until someone releases a Dark Forces game :3
Mhmm! Loved me some Dark Forces!! Mhmm!
I didn't like the game too much because of the difficulty of the normal setting, I got through the first two levels fine but was stuck in an always losing fight with the first junk monster thing. That and I constantly died by falling.
Perhaps (SPOILER RAWR!) the sequel could have you being one with the force, you know, being even more powerful, and more unleashed.
But I do like how you'll be doing what the game promoted, being evil, on the dark side. It's something that the game tried to do at first, but quickly stayed away from.
Jhales
@Zerorush: Wait, sorry. I guess after re-reading it, the latter part of the article does seem to suggest the Hoth content is exclusive to the re-release. My mistake.
@DrunkAus: Dual-core processors became a lot more widespread, that's what.
@Sabbatai: Yeah, that's a fair point. I've played the game through a couple times on different difficulties, and I admit that I had a few moments where I latched onto anything but what I meant to-- particularly at the beginning of the final level. Luckily, it didn't stop me from surviving that part of the game, or I'd have been sore with it. Still, that's definitely one of the big things I wouldn't mind seeing them improve on, should they make another game in this franchise.
@wild homes loves you but chooses darkness!: Mimban and the Kaiburr Crystal were also from the first original non-movie material we had, back before The Empire Strikes Back. Some things were bound to be a bit different from where the rest of the universe went...
@TheTonyShow: But it's not like they just ported that content over. Those levels had to be coded for the different physics systems (Euphoria, Havok, and DMM) running the current-gen versions of the game. Now, could they have been ready when the game was released? Sure, maybe. It's possible. But it's unfair to assume they were just laying around because they existed for the Wii and PS2-- completely separate development teams brought those versions of the game to completion.
And I'm curious-- what levels didn't tie in to the existing universe? He hangs out on the under-construction Executor, which is certainly in Return of the Jedi... he goes to a TIE factory, and there are TIEs in the entire original trilogy... Nar Shadaa was featured heavily in KOTOR2 among other projects... Felucia is seen in Revenge of the Sith... Kashykk is mentioned in nearly everything in the EU and is seen in Revenge of the Sith, as well... and the game ends on the Death Star. Raxus Prime isn't featured in any of the movies, but it's featured in many of the EU books and Hyperspace stuff. You could certainly argue the levels are bland (though some might not agree) but I really don't see how they're not connected to the canon universe.
@wild homes loves you but chooses darkness!: It would have been great if they just allowed for some type of targetting ... that or not require you to aim at a specific point when there are 34004825 other objects that the game would target when you looked in that direction.
Sabbatai
@TheTonyShow
The Wii and PS2 versions were developed by Krome, the PS3 and 360 versions were not.
It takes time and money to develop this stuff, you can't just copy an paste it.
@Wedge1981: Or give me both! AND Chiss clawcraft in it! Woot!
Deleted comment!
@DeeBG: What did you hate about it? I found it charming, fairly well-written (at least compared to canon nonce like Mimban and the Kaiburr Crystal), and mechanically fairly sound.
@EnigmaNemesis: Excellent. It's only £12 these days, so I'm not going to worry too hard about having to pay for both DLC packs.
And really, what kind of monster isn't at least a fan of the old films?
No, wait, don't answer that.
@octalass:
Oh I will, and did, give you that bullshit. I beat that game in 3 or 4 nights of lazy playing, and had no trouble blasting back through it and finding all the holocrons. The Jedi temple pack came out what- 30 days after the core game? Adding insult to injury is the fact it was included on other platforms right at launch.
It's called "Oh look- this platform has a digital distribution and payment network in place- let's hold some content back and charge for it in a month". That's the bullshit.
This game is irredeemable to me. Even a friend in the UK who is a Star Wars FREAK and he disliked it just as much.
@EGBTMagus:
PCs get batter and better every 3-6 months.
This game being a year old, I would assume the best then, is not the best now.
@Jared Henry:
"LucasArts will also release Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition during the Holiday 2009 season, a special edition of the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 featuring the original title and the already available downloadable content, plus an exclusive level on Hoth, where the confrontation between Starkiller and Skywalker takes place."
That "exclusive" retail hoth stage better be available for download, I just bought the game again when I heard there was going to be new content.
PC version? Oh HELL yes. I got the Wii version and it nearly turned me off of console gaming forever. PC version is gonna give me a much happier holiday season.
Phrawger
@Pombar:
Yes.
Fantastic story and acting.
And all around fun game. Even more fun if you are a fan.
@TheTonyShow:
Oh, please, don't give me that bullshit. The game's length is on par with most other current games.
Expansions are nothing new. Hell, they used to be more expensive and less convenient when you couldn't download them.
Are they going to throw some bug fixes in there too? How about a dropping the whole Star Destroyer sequence?
DustoMan
eh. gamestop has it for 20 bucks. i just picked a copy up myself.
braincadet
@Iz1ck: Good point. I'd like to see a Jar Jar Binks biopic personally. Just for the humor value it'd give me. And to see all the people rage around the world about how he got his own movie.
So, I was out of the country when this came out. Worth picking up cheap second hand? This DLC does sound tempting.
Crysis... is that you?
PS3 trophies patch please.
@patapon: Ahh, I got ya. I'm a mainly PC guy, so I only occasionally get on my Xbox and see what is new... like right now, I just bought Classic Turtles Arcade off the Marketplace... I had no idea it was there... Score.
LCOS
Wow! Wii owners ignored? Again?
What a shocking surprise! Guess a million seller means jack @#$% nowadays.
CaptJapan
@tehdorkz: Yes, I think anything beats DLC for a year old game that nobody plays anymore, that wasn't good to begin with
Iz1ck
Did they fix the bugs I read about in reviews?
Sounds good, I've been meaning to pick this up AND WHAT PC VERSION!? Wonder what happened to it being 'too processor-intensive for typical PCs'?
couldnt this have come out back when i cared about this game?
looks like im gonna gamefly the sith edition
Monsoon77
Aaaaargh that'll teach me to sell a game once I beat it :-/
VedetteIshcabibble
Since I'm a trophy/achievement whore... are there any PS3 trophy plans?
BiancaCookies
Creepy that I just recently started playing again.
DMan304
HAHAHA
What happened to the game only being playable on the best PCs?
Lucas Arts, Masters of the Flipflop.
@patapon:
Ya, I remember the date in my mind because I couldn't wait for it to come out.
Lineofdeath2
It would be interesting to pick up if it wasn't likely to be $30 for 3 levels. (Purely estimating pricing here based on $10 for the only other DLC level released)
h_jeremiah
Pc version! finally!
HELL YEAH. now i get to bust up some star wars characters on mah PC! :D
that said, it better be on steam, and it better not be full price.
curly haired boy
Good to see a publisher supporting this game still. what we need more of in this day and age even if it cost me extra:)
www.gametrailers.com
rogue32
@LCOS: I though the game was good too. I just would've like DLC a little earlier, that's all.
:) ... :/ ... :( ... :'(
A PC version you say? About damn time, but I'm thankful to be getting it at all after they gave their reasons at launch.
I've seen my bro play it on Xbox and it looked like something I could get into, and the physics were excellent. Can't wait!
Paradox me
@FlagshipFighter: I'd like to see that. The bugs were what kept me from buying the game in the first place.
@Lineofdeath2: I just looked it up on wiki (ha, wookie) and the game released September 16, 2008 in NA. That's not to far off from other places as well.
It puzzles me that DLC would come a year later...
Well, better late then never, right?
@NotGabeNewell: Would you of rather it of been another bad movie?
@TheTonyShow: Hahaha. It's bad enough EA charged for stuff that cheats used to do for us. This is really extreme. I hope there's no company evil enough to do this. Though it would still be pretty funny if someone had the balls to.
@patapon: Ehh, I'm O.K. with it. I bought the game for $60 (One of the FEW I ever have) and I enjoyed it. It had it's problems, but every game does. I thought it took a bit too much flak for bugs, but then I never encountered any GAME breaking ones, like some claimed.
Also, I never really got to bored with the game, so some more DLC won't be bad as I would like a reason to play it again.
LCOS
If its 20 bucks ill buy it.
Scott J
I purchased that game for the full $59.95 on launch day. I enjoyed it, but found it to be too short and with bland levels that didn't tie in to the established universe.
Now - NOW,only after I've traded it in, do they start releasing some content that actually makes it into a game of respectable length and content (for an extra 10 or 20 dollars, natch).
This DLC business is getting way out of hand. It won't be long before the retail release only includes the title screen and opening cinematic, and all the levels will be individual paid DLC.
Wow, that's about 10 months since release.
"a special edition of the game featuring the original title, plus the already available downloadable content, plus an exclusive level."
Will this mean the Jedi Temple level and costumes be available as well?
Lineofdeath2
and this was the BIG announcement? Lucas arts keeps disappointing me!!! Why spend time in a mediocre game instead of a game like SW:BF3? Makes no sense.
Purguy
I really enjoyed the Force Unleashed. The game itself was decent. It was the storyline that truly shined for me. I thought it was really well done, and played a good role in connecting the trilogies.
I'm excited for this DLC and am interested in the dark side winning alternate story line. Seems like it could be interesting. The 'recent' dark side Obi concept art made me want to explore this idea.
FeistyGoat
im excited to see that theres so much DLC for this game. I liked this game. I was a JKA fanatic back in the day so I might be a bit biased...but the lack of multiplayer got me to sell this game rather quickly after I had purchased it. I'm regretting it now that theres so much DLC..but still, no multiplayer =(. I dont think multiplayer will ever become a reality for this game...too complicated for the engine and would probably require major overhauls of the gameplay design. However I like that it is still alive despite its sometimes bad reviews among critics.
A long *TIME* ago in a galaxy far, far away.... I CARED!!!
For real, this is a 'tad' bit too late.
This is fantastic news! That video looks soo brilliant! I wander if it is worth waiting for the rerelease to see if they improved the game engine, fixed some bugs, etc?
Wait, so there is a PC version coming out?
This was the big Star Wars announcement ? What the fuck ?
NotGabeNewell
