Regardless as to whether a light gun game is easier (which I assure, it is NOT easier in every possible way like you think it is. You have to take a LOT into account for a good light gun game), it's still a viable genre and just because it might not take as much time or money, that doesn't mean it's a cash-in. A cash-in is when you follow the crowd and make what everyone else is making. You seem to think there are tons of light gun games on the Wii but there aren't. There are very few.

You can sit there and throw around "AAA title" all you want but it's laughable. It's a buzzword and you've bought into hook, line and sinker and it's the worst thing to pop up in the last ten years.

@EderC: I know. The fans want a re-haul of the old games with the new engine but Campcom just won't give in. Instead we get this. I liked UC but it wasn't anything great and i looks like this game will have a lot more improvements, but still. It's not what we keep asking for.

@Ueziel: In my opinion, gun games on the Wii are the way to get "mature" well known titles to the masses who can play gun games, but probably not more complex 3PS ones. I own a Wii60 and I'm tired of seeing the dumbed-down games on the Wii, and/or the half-assed attempt at a AAA game (Madworld. Do not even attempt to tell me that MW is close to MGS3, or God of War 2). The Wii needs a developer who's actually going to take their time and money, and do everything the system is capable of. Nintendo is arguably the only dev on Wii doing AAA quality. Doing a gun-game is actually a lot easier to make, and a quick way to make some bucks on the resident evil name. Fortunately, EA seems to be at least doing more with the genre. I would like to actually see some REAL AAA 3PS games on the Wii though. Guess I'll just have to get that from Nintendo's Metroid. Sheesh.

Keep the on-rails shooters coming. I LOVE them!!!

@CHunterX: So what? So making a game that has to be made differently is a cash grab because it takes less time to make? That's ridiculous. And this game does have side hallways and stuff to go through so it does have side paths. That said, most games these days don't have multiple paths anyway. Dead Space certainly didn't. Having it so that the player/developer doesn't have to worry about clipping is a GOOD thing.

The key point in progression in a rail shooter is that big moments are much easier to set up. Since the game already moves you along and you're used to the pace, having the game pan out and up or on some big moment is much more natural than you rushing through hallways and then STOP for some big scene to show off something.

Rail shooters are not cash grabs. They are just one more genre of games that are no worse than any other.

@Ueziel: There's a lot of things you have to plan ahead for in almost every genre that you don't have to do for rail shooters (and to a lesser extent, fighters). I could name probably a dozen things that would take hundreds of man-hours to get bug-free, but I'll just mention a few. Progression: When making a rail shooter, developers don't have to worry about multiple paths, or using one key on a different door; think LoZ's silver keys, they could be used on any door. Clipping and Physics: Since the player can't actually move and push against objects, modeling a room and making it so the player won't clip through objects is a non-issue.

@Michael Ortega: completely agree. They do seem to be taking the "easy" way out with these on rails shooters. Shame, seems like they could've done something good with a resident evil for the wii, that's built from the ground up.

I too loved Umbrella Chronicals, and this looks even better.

This is one of my most anticipated this year...it looks as much an interactive horror movie as anything else.

Going back to classic resident evil style, and re-imaging creepy monsters like Birkin, Mr X, Bandersnatch and nosteratu?

@Gerard Cabarse: Why do people want this? It just won't work. It worked in 4 and 5 because of the open environments, and it'll totally ruin what the others were about. Besides it wouldn't be too hard to speed right through it.

Wow, seeing those characters together really illustrates how terrible their character designers are: Steve Burnside looks almost identical to Leon S. Kennedy (why does he include his middle initial when he introduces himself?).

@Michael Ortega: Why is a rail shooter a "quick cash grab?" They aren't especially popular and there aren't that many of them. The Wii has like four actual lightgun games with another maybe five or six that are just obvious throwaways. Out of how many hundreds of games.

Ok, it's got all my favorite characters. I'm not keen on rail shooters, but I'm gonna have to have this one.

i liked the gameplay in UC, but the original story was pretty awful.

I liked umbrella chronicles, and Resident Evil 2 is my favorite RE game still..they have that and Claire.

@Cdog923: That's probably for the better then. I still have Steve's whiny voice echoing in my head. The way he said "I'm sorry" bugged me to no end.

i still think the old resident evil games were the best, the awkward controls made it scarier and the puzzle solving was fun as hell. I'll miss them, but this should at least let me relive some memories :)

@King of Fun UK: Agreed. Umbrella chronicles was a great idea with some of the slowest, most boring "light gun/rail shooter" gameplay I've ever experienced.

If you're going to do a light gun/rail shooter type game it's GOT to move faster than the pace that RE characters walk.

HOTD is the way to go as far as zombie rail shooters on the Wii.

Since they had to milk the old REs again, at least they went back to RE 2 this time.

It does look interesting, but all that fancy camera work is for single player. I would have really liked in if co-op worked that way too. Maybe they'll do that by the final release. Also, they left out Chris Redfield for some reason. He is who you play as in the final battle of Code Veronica not to mention the saving Claire from dying.

@A_White_Nite: Ditto. I played Umbrella Chronicles with my friend for over 40 hours. We unlocked everything and almost had S rankings on all the levels. Granted, we're both RE fans, so that probably went a long way in keeping us coming back for more.

I can understand why people may not like the concept.

@Seraphlol: It IS Leon from 4. Paul Mercier is the same VA that did Leon's voice in RE4 and in Degeneration. As far as I know, the only major character who's voice has changed is Steve's.

On a less sarcastic note, this game will hopefully have the same co-op fun as its predecessor.

Do these "on-rails" games really sell? Or are they just really cheap to make and make lots of money regardless?
It just breaks my heart when I look at a trailer like that and imagine how awesome it would be if they would just give you control of your legs & pov. -sigh-

@King of Fun UK: i feel the same. which is weird because i'm pretty lenient on anything zombie related, especially rail shooters, and i love resident evil. but as a rail shooter UC is extremely boring. it's a great value with so much content packed into it, but i never actually find myself enjoying it when i play it. i'm just grinding my way to more levels and better guns.

overkill was definitely an over the top blast though.

HoTD: Overkill though? Perfect. Never took itself seriously, looked awesome and played fast.

I LOVED Umbrella Chronicles (despite it being hard as balls toward the end) and I can't wait for Darkside.

Just decided to start playing through RE4 for the Wii again, and played Assignment Ada for the first time yesterday. Now working toward the Chicago Typewriter in the main quest.

I like rail shooters, but Umbrella Chronicles really butchered the story of 0 and 1.

I know its easy to make, cheesy, blah blah blah, but hell, day one release for me. This game has everything that made Resident Evil one of my Fav game franchises, its got more of the games I played as a kid condensed down.

I mean, the first one was entertaining, and its nice to go back to Resident Evil that my generation grew up with, not the current Resident Evil this Generation are playing.

@Roufuss: Pretty crappy too. More like an interactive movie than a game. House of the Dead: Overkill was way better as an on-rails shooter and the side stories they introduced were mostly completely ludicrious and took away from the original games they cribbed from. It was more like poorly written fan fiction and for the Resident Evil series that's saying something!

@Michael Ortega: Agreed. Something combining the claustrophobia of the originals with the shooter gameplay of Resi 4 would be awesome. I'd even take Resi 5 with wiimote support, but grudgingly so. Too like Gears of War to scratch my survival horror itch.

It was FAR from a "quick cash grab".. it's lengthy, it has tons of side stories that further explain the series, lots to find / upgrade... It's pretty unique for an on rails shooter.

So .. by the looks of things, they've mashed resident evil 2 and code veronica together - my favourite RE titles. If this wasn't on rails I'd be hugely excited.

It annoys me to no end that Capcom choose to go a less interactive route with what arguably is the most interactive system. A Resident Evil title built from the ground up on Wii could be great, instead another quick cash grab on rails shooter is made.

First one was great, especially co-op.. definitely going to be getting this.

I am so excited for this. I played Umbrella Chronicles a ton! I like the idea of the shaky cam and that you can actually see the other player standing in front of you. Similar to the Time Crisis games.

Gotta love those zombie games!

So it's basically RE2 and CV with House of the Dead style railshooter controls? Sounds fun actually.
