While Midway have been consigned to the dustbin of history, in the early 1990s, they were gods. Largely because of two games: NBA Jam & Mortal Kombat. Two games that, for all their success, never came together.
But they could have! Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has today revealed some artwork for a proposed crossover between the two franchises, which would have seen a Mortal Kombat-infused court made available in NBA Jam. With spinal columns, dismembered heads, the works.
Sadly, despite allowing gamers the chance to play as Bill Clinton and Prince Charles, playing on a Mortal Kombat court was a bridge too far for the NBA, who said nothankyou to the whole thing.

ahhh… when you say “Two games that, for all their success, never came together.” that’s not actually true. In NBA Jam Tournament Edition v1.0 & v2.0 some of the Mortal Kombat players were playable using unlock codes… so to say that they “never came together” isn’t entirely correct!
