Why do people think that iinet didnt know this was comming? MS announced it for xbox australia at some point in the future years ago. The iinet xbox ads even say download movies (theres just very few to download!).

IInet sorted out the deal early so us early adopters will move to iinet to get the quota. Like iview for abc expect internode and primus to make it quota free in a few months. Telstra and optus never will…..

it doesnt matter as long as we have a cap tracked usage system in this country video on demand is not viable write your local MP and ask them to put forward new laws to ban ISP’S from using this inhibitive system as long has its in use we cannot technologically progress in internet as it is unviable to use the internet for anything other than light downloading / browsing

I am on internode and high def movies would completely chew through my 25GB/mnth connection. Unless they work out a similar deal to iiNet where XBL content is unmetered, I simply won’t be able to use this service. Paying for a movie is fine, but paying once for the movie and again for the bandwidth costs would make it impractical.

It is intriguing, and as an iinet customers I will definitely be keeping a close eye on it. Two things that will be interesting will be price and sound quality. 1080p video is great, but half the fun of blu-ray is the awesome lossless sound codecs.

If they pull this off and keep ISPs with them so that the service doesn’t chew threw my monthly quota, I’d pick up 360 straight away.

I’ve been waiting for something similar with my PS3 but the prospect of it happening seems really far off.

I’m with TPG and am sick and tired of the shit service (regardless of price and generous download caps which you can’t use anyway with absurd off peak times and them shaping off peak traffic at will). Iinet is looking very attractive and if they can confirm the movie streaming will be included then I’ll churn for sure.

If this gets implemented then I will upgrade my connection to ADSL2+. However, I hope other ISPs jump on board (particularly Internode) for Xbox unmetered downloads.
