Amazon Germany Lists 250GB Xbox 360

This is so that after the slow price at the slims launch this is so that microsoft can put their price back up.

@brass2themax: I agree, they can throw as much features they want at me, i dont care. I will be playing online and talking to the people im playing with. I dont get all the need for cross game chat anyway. why would you want to talk to someone else while playing a game yourself. Its just gonna bug me when i play team based games. The same with home, i new it was gonna be big but i was also sure it wont take off like they believe. Its fine for casual chatting or whatever. but unless they finally release the game related features to it then i wont even bother.

@Strife Fox †: For the PS3, just throw in your own harddrive. I have a 500G in mine. The 360 on the other hand, you are kinda screwed unless you mod it. And I won't risk that with XBL and all. So from that angle, I agree. But from the Sony side of things is really easy to upgrade.

Also, it's not like they are changing features (anymore) they are just adding 'value' by giving people larger harddrives.

Well it makes sense as laptops and the harddrive makers go onto larger capacity and more efficient harddisks, that eventually the next higher capacity would be cheaper to produce than the current used one, as over time there is less demand for the current size and it probably ends up only being produced mainly for a console (like the 360).

@puffa469: I currently have my 360 on its return trip home from the second RRoD repair. I don't have HDMI, my fan sounds like an airplane taking off, and my 20gig HD (aka 13 gig HD) can't hold more than one installed game due to the amount of DLC and demos I have on it. Unless I buy a new 360, I wont be getting HDMI. If I want a HD that can install more than a few games along with my DLC I have to pay at least $80 minimum-and that is without the data transfer kit. I wouldn't say tiresome, but would consider this very frustrating.

I think the ORIGINAL playstation 3 launch was kind of sad since the 60gb had the built-in wifi and memory card readers while the 20GB didn't. Granted, the 360 Arcade is a joke, but at least you can just purchase the hard drive (only costs 500% regular price and your diginity!).

Still, who cares about a 250GB hard drive? I put one in my PS3 for under $100 ages ago.

@Dehnus: Most people didnt. And just cause you can use wires doesnt mean other people can too. It's ALOT easier for a layman to setup wifi than it is to run a cable across their house. And no lag is not an issue in most cases.

@Dehnus: While it might not be a deal breaker, we had to get one or run a wire from one room to the other, which would have looked bad and been annoying. It might not be completely necessary to play, but neither are wireless controllers, it's just something that the new generation of consoles should have.

I wanted to purchase a Slim on release, but noooooo, now that "rumors" of a 250GB model is coming, what's the point? Everytime you buy something, it seems they add a new feature 2 weeks later.

The only reason I can see you would need 250GB on your 360 would be if you were buying 360 games off the Marketplace.

@alexkidd: Errm...Fabula Nova Crystalis only has one of it's games on 360. And none in Japan.
Nothing to do with the single games thing. It's also a PS3 to 360 port for once, so those with a choice will be buying the PS3 version.

@Archaotic: Thing is here in the UK(and I think Europe in general) apart from the times they introduce a new SKU(like now with the 80GB n the Slim) that's it for multiple SKUS' the rest of the time it's either 60GB - 40-80-slim. Yet we've had the Arcade/Pro/Elite for ages.

Not really that outrageous of a claim. If Microsoft is really pushing for all this digital distribution and DLC, why not have a console to accommodate it.

@Rhawb: The problem with that is that MS is already selling this hardware. My point is that it doesn't make much sense that they'd cut a $150 item to $40 and sell a larger HDD for $90. Especially when they've just announced the Elite's price drop. A price drop that in no way gels with the math on this package. Real value of the item obviously doesn't play much into its price since they've been overcharging on HDDs from the start.

This could be a legit package, but I'm still a doubter. If it is legit I'm sure it'd be a holiday only limited time offer.

Sony and MS are just going to baby step each other so no matter what point we "upgrade" or new consumers "buy-in" they'll baby step over our purchase month later with 2x the HD or 2x heat reduction but then change each port so we need to repurchase our accessories.

And to preemptively answer, maybe people don't want to have to re-download something each time they want to play it.

A friend of mine in Manila who works for MS Tech support says this is indeed coming. He wouldn't give me exact pricing though. The 250 gig drive will be sold separately as well.

That's actually a pretty good deal if it's $400 in the U.S. Figure $200 for system and 1 controller. $50 for 1 controller. $60 for Forza 3. $20 for component cable (if still available) and/or digital audio breakout adapter.

That leaves the 250 GB hard drive for $70! That's the same price that newegg is selling an OEM WD 250 for.

The only question is why? The only thing that you can do with the space is install games, demos, and CD ripped music. They won't even allow you to save any of your own music or videos onto it, so $250 is WAY too much space wfor what MS allows you to do with it. 120 GB has got to be the max that anyone could ever really constructively use.

@Desolation_Angel: These HDDs don't cost MS anywhere near what they're charging for them - I'd say $400 is perfectly plausible. I'd bet that Microsoft pays, at most, $40 for a 120gb drive (including the enclosure). Maybe slightly more for a 250gb HDD, but not by much. Controllers, games, and consoles are all obtained by MS at much lower prices than retail as well. I think at $400 there would be a pretty solid profit coming back on those consoles. Well within the kind of profit margin that Microsoft would be looking for, at least.

This is what everyone here is forgetting. The ps3 slim in Europe is 299 euros with one controller. So if an Elite 360 comes out with a 250gb HDD, two controllers and Forza 3 at 279 euros, that's basically raping sony's offer.

This is the first generation of consoles that I can remember where the war appears to be "rebooted" if you will. It's going to get dirty from here on out, which will benefit the consumer.

The NPD's are going to be crazy for the next 3 months and I see the PS3 doing very well this holiday season.

The 120GB hard drive in the PS3 isn't enough for media junkies thats why most of us have thrown in a 500GB hard drive.

Only problem is on the 360 the 120GB hard drive by Microsoft costs as much as a 500GB hard drive yet delivers a slower RPM speed, lower cache and less space too and its the only hard drive that will work with the 360.

Do this for the customers please MS you owe us that much.

One is a Regular (wireless) controller
and one is (wireless) Natal (controller #2).
And they are pushing their hugely anticipated motion controller with their hugely anticipated Forza 3. Also as analyst Michael Pachter indicated on the Bonus Round about motion controllers Microsoft is going to use it to push DLC through the XBL
and so they will most likely pack it in with a larger SKU.

I'm talking more about when I payed $600 for my PS3 and my friends with Xbox360's were hating on me (this is when a Premium Xbox360 was $400), but for them to get the same features, they'd have to pay $100 for the Wifi adapter, $150 for an HD-DVD player, $30 to make their controller rechargeable and $150 for the 120GB, when I could buy a 500GB HDD for my PS3 at the same price (at that time). I used all my features so I got my money's worth. not to mention bluetooth so I can use my wireless headset, instead of paying $50 for the Xbox360 wireless headset. I don't mention online, because YES, XboxLive is far superior to Sony's FREE PSN, but... when you aren't paying $50 for Xboxlive, you get shafted on the demos (waiting an extra week is a little harsh) and other features. PSN's Free service IS better than XboxLive's free service, but I wouldn't mind paying $30-50 a year to get as good of service as XboxLive on my PS3.

you can bitch about the PS3 being $600 back in the day, but I saved my money and got one at launch, and used all the features I got, and am still using it without fail. I wonder if you can say the same about those who bought their Xbox360 at launch.

Add in the $50 LIVE subscription X # of years you've been on and factor into account that there are people out there that don't know you can get a Xbox 360 wireless adapter for about $50 or less and/or use other alternatives.

The asking price of $100 bucks for it is NOT worth it and all it takes is a little research to find other solutions/prices.

When MS hits back, they hit hard.

If a 250 gig ends up being sold in a bundle SKU for $400, then we better get a huge price cut on the stand-alone HDDs.

@Rictor: It's unfortunate, to be sure. I got 1.5TB for $100. That's the cost of a 60GB HDD for a 360. That comes to 25GB on a normal drive for every 1 on a 360 drive. Painful.

I'm telling you these 250 gb consoles for both Microsoft and Sony are their motion control SKUs, 2 wireless controllers, comeon when does Microsoft go out of their way to bundle anything more than is required for what they are trying to sell. They have to give you a regular controller and if they are pushing the motion controller it has to be in the bundle, and lastly the fact that they went out of their way to dig up an old car game to show off at E3. Theres a reason for everything, all signs point to this being Natals Motion controller SKU.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised. It just doesn't make fiscal sense NOT to offer a fully pimped out version for those who can be convinced to spend the extra $100/$200.

I wonder what color it will be? Black, white, or another color altogether? Maybe it'll just be the black version with extra stuff.
