Dragon Quest IX Sells Less Than 100,000 (Oh Noes!)
According to the Japanese sales figures released last week, DS title Dragon Quest IX sold 127,000. According to the ones released this week, it did not.
The game moved 79,000 copies—making it the first time it fell under 100,000. The game has already sold 3.7 million copies, so who cares, right? 3.7 million is plenty!
Square Enix is apparently hoping to sell 5 million, that’s why. Always put your goals high, that’s what I say. That way you’ll never been disappointed. You know another thing I always say? Brush your teeth.

@outlawauron: depending on what number you're looking at. VGchartz has the game at over 4M but I believe the last actual number from famitsu and others are a bit below that

Flashback sequence: I just remembered when me and my friend rented Dragon Warrior when it just came out, we were like, 'what the hell, you fight with words?', so the JRPG genre became "games that you fight with words" for us, I grew fond of them early, my friend a bit after FF7 came out. Ahhh, memories...

Then after that all it becomes is a grind fest for levels and components for making new equipment while going through the various dungeons found from maps.

@I_Like_Bunnies: except no Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy has reached 4 million in japan. I believe it is currently the second best selling dragon quest title of all time and is very likely to pass DQVII and claim the top stop in a few weeks

It's already their second best selling game in japan ever I believe and will most certainly beat DQVII for the top spot in a few weeks. 5 million might not be entirely impossible, but if it does reach it that would be pretty increadible

DQ/FF titles have historically been titles that sell like crazy on the first week, so this isn't too surprising. Might have been a possibility if they got 4mil copies out on the initial run, but with the way the Japanese game market is, every store would rather sell their marked down used copies of the game than brand new copies.

p.s Your wording is a bit off in the first sentence. Makes it sound like their overall sales were under 127,000, rather than it was their weekly sales.

I wonder how many copies DQIX around Christmas time? I'm pretty sure then SE will hit their target of 5 Million.
At least half the things you say make no sense then ;) It's more disappointing to fail your goals because you set them unrealisticly high - while if you expect less things can only improve.
I do agree with brushing your teeth though. Could save your life.
