Last weekend you could pick up Dawn of War II for cheap thanks to a 50% off deal on Steam. Looks like it did wonders for the game’s sales.
You see, every week Microsoft publish a list of the ten most played games over Xbox Live. What you probably didn’t realise is that this list also tracks games played over Games For Windows Live, too.
I say you probably didn’t realise because to date there haven’t been any GFW Live games in the list. Until last week, that is, when Dawn of War II popped up in 10th spot.
No doubt it also helped that DOWII received a major update to coincide with the Steam deal.
ANZ Top Played Retail Games w/e August 5:
1. Halo 3
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Call of Duty: World at War
4. Gears of War 2
5. Grand Theft Auto IV
6. Guitar Hero World Tour
7. FIFA 09
8. Fallout 3
9. Halo Wars
10. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
Sure, there are probably a few PC gamers adding to that Fallout 3 stat, but Dawn of War II is the first non-Xbox 360 game to make the list. Well done, Relic!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 5:46 PMIts an awesome game that deserves more sales. I’m glad they did well.
Now relic just needs to fix up space marines in melee and everything else is peachy.
Until Games For Windows Live disconnects me mid-game again.. *sigh*

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 10:53 PMI knew nothing about the game until I picked it up in the sale. Turns out it is one of the best games I have played in a long time. I will be paying more attention to Steam sales in the future.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 9:12 AMplease please please let all these newbies be good MP partners, i am absolutely sick of being constantly in situations where people drop out of games in the last second of a countdown, where there is non stop moaning when they see your rank and the like.
Single Player makes up for it a lot though.
