Boy, these PS3 Slim rumours are really building up a good head of steam, no? We’re averaging one good rumour a day on them, the latest being a fairly sensible one, courtesy of British retailers.
According to trade site MCV, British retailers are currently in the process of “clearing PS3 hardware stock from the channel”, with two “leading national retailers” telling the site that there’ll be no more PS3 shipments until September.
When, presumably, there will be new shipments. Shipments of a newer, slimmer PS3.
If you’re wondering when we’ll stop posting these rumours, Sony’s GamesCom press conference is next week, and it’s widely expected the new machine will be unveiled there. That’s when we’ll stop.

Actually something else on this. My workmate went into JB Hi-Fi the other day looking for PS3′s. He was told that they were out of stock, and that their remaining units were actually shipped back to Sony. Twist is they said that they wouldnt be seeing any new stock until September either.

Aussie retailers are doing the same, no new ps3 stock is expected until late august/september.

I understand clearing out your stock to make way for the new model, but have a whole month of no stock whatsoever? That doesn’t sound very sensible.
Just had a thought, Sony recently announced some of it’s new SSD technology in which they plan on selling 2Terrabyte memory sticks. Do you think they plan on using this in the PS3 at all? It would make good sense to…
