Infinity Ward blogger FourZeroTwo showed off the feature at a GameCrazy convention, blogging:
I was presenting a singleplayer mission at the GameCrazy show this morning on stage and happened to walk over a body that had Akimbo (dual wield side arm), therefore the icon for the weapon popped up on screen and the room went crazy with chants demanding I pick it up and use it.
So I did.
Happened to be dual Deagles. Now to calm some initial fears of “OMG! Overpowered!”. Akimbo is limited and balanced, just like EVERYTHING in the game. It’s limited to sidearms, harder to aim than standard and you can’t go ADS (aim down sights) since you have a weapon in each hand; Among other balancing techniques, so don’t freak out before you see it in action.
Now you can do something that you’ve already been able to do in other games for years. Hooray?
Modern Warfare 2 Gets Dualies [IGN Thanks, Brandon!]

Wow, just like real special forces! Can’t wait for them to introduce a double-jump powerup…

Meh, even E1 grunts out of basic know how to dual wield. Now if they introduced the back-flipping hatchet attack, then I’d be impressed.

I like to look forward to the future, does this mean Modern Warfare 3 will allow you to wield a THIRD weapon? How would you hold it?
Don’t be stupid, of course not. But with some luck we’ll be able to throw weapons at people from a distance if they run out of ammo. Because realistically in that situation don’t you think that’s what you would do?

Reminds me of the scene from (I think) Saving Private Ryan where they end up throwing their steel helmets at each other before drawing pistols.
I love the fact that the Desert Eagle is almost better known as a ‘Deagle’ now.

Taking a page from South Park…
… HALO DID IT!
And dual-wield isn’t anything marvelous anyway. And it’s probably a perk in multi-player thats unlocked towards the end. I don’t find it necessary for COD anyway.
It works in Halo, with the weapons & all. But i don’t even use it that often in online.
