@Marouku: I mean it's consistently consumed in its target market, but outside observers just continue to lose respect for them for it... When I was first getting into anime in the mid-90s, people would see anything Japanese and go "oh, it's that freaky tentacle porn stuff!"

If you've ever watched CSI, you'd know that they try to show as much naked cadaver sometimes without showing anything "offensive". The other night I was watching TV Asahi and there was a CSI murder mystery type show and there was a naked cadaver. Full on nipples and pubes. Unedited. On national television.

And that's one of tens of thousands of examples that could be delivered. It may be risque for American audiences, but that's only because we're bred and taught that violence is good, sex is bad! But it's okay to stare at a naked body as long as genitals and nipples are not shown, but beyond that, sex is bad!

Maybe people should worry less about what is shown in the image and be thankful of what isn't shown. I mean, you have a crotch and you have tentacles, you could be happy *that* line wasn't crossed!

I did a college paper on Hokusai for my graphic design class. I used the Fisherman's wife as an example of newer artists looking at older works for inspiration. My instructor said she enjoyed how I was able to compare tentacle-porn with classic works (though, she didn't use "tentacle-porn"; I think she said "more explicit modern artwork").
