Maybe at the end of the generation they'll make a Jak and Daxter or Uncharted kart racing game :)

I got to play a beta at a local music fest and it was so clean and so lovley to look at and of course plays nice cant wait. Insomniac never fails to big the goods.

@AncientUnknown1: They shared the same game engine didn't they? I'm a little bit more of a Jak and Daxter fan I would say. I think there's room for both games on the PS3 and I'm glad they take their time concentrate on getting it right game by game. Dreams can come true.

@dodger: Yeah it was a shame a they did to Spyro and Crash for that matter. If nothing else maybe a redux.

This franchise has frustrated me more than any other franchise, because it just isn't fun to play FOR ME. Its frustrating because Insomniac does a phenomenal job putting together a high quality product, boring or not.

Having said that, I guarantee come October I will have persuaded myself to give it one more chance just like I did with the previous R&C game.

Come to think of it, I carry similar feelings for the Resistance IP as well. Maybe Insomniac shot my dog in a previous life.

@darkos87: Not everyone likes shooters. There is a major vacuum for lighter fare this holiday. This and SMB Wii should make a killing, since the field is wide open for them.

@teke367: I just discovered R and C myself. I'm trying to at least work through Up Your Arsenal before I move up to the PS3 ones.

The game's been just what I've needed; the cute spunky quality of a Sonic game mixed with creatively designed massive weapons. I can see why it's lasted as long as it has (UYA has a Bill Clinton soundalike)

But your point rings true. There has been a serious drought of light, fun, well-designed platformers this gen. There's actually been a lot of genres un- or under-represented, which I think is why backwards compatibility continues to be talked about.

This looks great though, and probably goes to the top of my holiday shortlist.

Not particularly, as someone else pointed out, this game is pretty much the only one of its kind being released this Winter, so it'll stick out from all these shooters more than everyone thinks, plus, it's a Ratchet and Clank game, the series has been around since pretty much the dawn of the PS2, people know the name.

@Plastique: A J&D game like the original would be great. After that, it seemed like Naughty Dog went, "Oh crap! You know what our game needs!? Guns! Get on it ASAP!". Everything felt tacked on and thrown together. Bleh.

The original was platforming greatness though. Really captured what made platformers so fun, simple, and enjoyable to play. Man, I loved that game. The sequels were less than stellar though - especially compared to the R&C series.

I actually loved the second, and it's goofy hover vehicles if I recall it correctly (been about 5 years since I played it) though I'd be happy with anything on the PS3 as long as "Jak and Daxter" is in the title and it's made by Naughty Dog!

@teke367: i hear ya. there are very few games i purchase when released anymore. i still have a bunch of old ones to play...bioshock, assassins creed, bully, prince of persia. dead space, a bunch of XBL and PSN games (and more for the ps3/360)and even some ps2 games like the warriors and ico.

A few weeks ago, my PS3 wouldn't read discs, so all I could do with it while waiting for the box from Sony was to download demos (purchased games would be lost). I've never bothered with Ratchet and Clank, until I tried the demo for the last game. I was suprised by how fun it was. I don't actually plan on getting this game, since the last one is cheap now, and hey, it's new to me.

One of the perks of being woefully behind on the times. Just got BioShock too.

Finally, more first party games from Sony. They've been lacking in that department. Now if they'd only release a new Jak & Daxter game akin to the original I'd be in heaven.

There are about 9 games that I am really waiting for right now, but since money is tight I think I might have to reconsider what games I really want to get.

I love Ratchet & Clank for the excellent platforming, hilarious writing and fun & inventive weapons, not to be hung up on some super hard time-manipulation puzzle halfway through. And from all I've read on this game there are some concerns that having 4 recorded Clanks running around that you have to time to get through puzzles will stop some players dead in their tracks.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good time- or space-manipulation puzzle (Braid and Portal are two of my fave games in recent memory), but even they made their hard challenges optional. So, I hope the puzzles in the story are challenging by the end but not frustrating, then there can be a couple dozen "challenge rooms" that are just there to melt your brain and make you feel like a genius when you figure them out.

Weird. People were complaining about Holiday '09 being lackluster about a month ago, now people are saying too many games in the comments below. =P

Still, It's looking like a good holiday season for Sony. Most people are picking up as couple current games to go with their new PS3/Slim with Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank Future, EyePet, MAG, and Demon's Souls rounding out the end of the year and White Knight Chronicles, God of War 3, and Heavy Rain coming out for all those post-holiday sales.

If somewhere in between, Polyphony manages to get GT5 out, my PS3 is going to see a lot of love in the coming months . . . And my bank account will be crying in pain. I can only imagine how much worse it'd be if the Holiday lineup was nearly as crowded as it's been previous years.

BAH another game to buy! I forgot about this one. I thought Uncharted was going to be my only must-buy for a while. But my wife loved Tools of Destruction, so either this is a must-buy or I must-sleep-on-the-couch.

@Trumpet: Insomniac usually delays games by three weeks, roughly for the ps3's US and EU release. But most reliable retailers had initially put this game and uncharted for November and two weeks before this announcement placed them in October which gives me reason to believe it probably will be on the 30th.

@RAVENKam: I'd say go back and play the PS2 entries... especially the second and third in the series... they're phenomenal. Simply a lot of fun, varied weapons and enemies with a ton to do. I started playing Tools of Destruction last week and it was awesome too.

@Ursus-Veritas: i hope you're right but if i remember correctly the last Ratchet and Clank game had a delay between U.S and Europe hence why i imported a copy. it may have only been a month or couple of weeks but I'm sure there was some kind of hold up.

Um.. this game isn't called Ratchet & Clank: Future (That's the mini series' title) - it's called 'Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time'.

You could set your clock by those guys at Insomniac. Not only to they release a decent (if it wasn't for R2 I'd say great or fantastic) game every year, they do it when they say they will, no matter what.

I think we can assume if the US release date will be the 27th, It'll be out the 30th in the UK and Europe. That's the way it normally works - USA gets it on a Tuesday, and the Brits get it on a friday.

I might get it.....TOD, I liked it, but all the hype made me think I was getting something on the level of Mario or Jak. Still a good game though. Hopefully the time manipulation thing plays a big part.

4 days later than what GameStop had on their website for a release date. How sad.

Still a pre-order for me.
