@Koda89: In 12-06 the Wii was going for over $1000 a piece, they just couldn't produce them fast enough, if you didn't know that you are dumb. Halo 3 was also kind of a big seller for MS remember? What was the difference in total sales for the 2 consoles, even with a year head start for Xbox? Wii won this gen 2 years ago, get over it.

@VideoGameFan: No they aren't. Total sales? Yes. But monthly sales, the 360 and PS3 are either catching up in or actually beating the Wii.

Maybe the Wii will see an increase in sales this fall, but I dunno. Either way, Nintendo has more than enough money to invest in a new system now.

The Dreamcast is still the high water mark for greatness. We all know that.

@K117: But it's still $50 less. To the "uneducated" consumer (I use that term lightly) it's the difference between a console+game or a console+$50 more for a game.

Think of Joe Schmoe who just wants something to pass the time, but needs to cut corners where possible.

And as was mentioned, their price is working wonders, so there is no reason whatsoever to cut prices just for the sake of cutting prices.

@phor11: This isn't "getting lazy" at all. Nintendo never promised a remote with integrated MotionPlus, and even if they had, there aren't enough games just yet that support MotionPlus for there to be sufficient demand to justify spending the time and money in R&D to pack it into the normal remote.

What they're doing here is offering a new option for people who want to buy an extra remote. Would you prefer that they didn't do that?

I would MUCH rather have seen this be a new design with motion+ integrated than simply a new color.
Nintendo is getting lazy. (and we all know where that leads...)

@Coquiton: its not significantly cheaper. For $50 more you can get a Playstation 3 (The best hardware value for the money) or an Xbox360 (The best software library and graphics in my opinion).

So for $250 you can get a hardware handicapped Wiii, or spend $50 more and get a far superior Xbox360 or Playstation 3.

Oh goodie, something to match the Black Wii Skinned console I have! Yay for investments!

But when I play my Wii I just sit and slightly flick my wrist to play, it's all you need to do really (with the exception of MotionPlus). So no I won't be getting a call from Reggie either and it hasn't been a problem the last 2 years.

Part of the reason people really, really, really wanted a Wii was cause the system kept flying off shelves. But now that the balance between supply and demand has switched places, the Wii's sells are slowly decreasing.

@Koda89: You must not know much about economics. The momentum of before where supply couldn't meet demand is gone now yeah, but there's still a demand that is buying the system. There are still a lot of people going to Best Buy, seeing the Wii there and picking one up.

@postcards: I'm more of a PC guy, but I kinda like having different colored controllers. Convenient for LAN parties so you know who's using what controller.

For my 360 setup I have both Todd MacFarlane Halo controllers, a green Halo 3 controller, and a plain white one. Works nicely.

They'll probably release the black Wii console alongside the Mario/Zelda/Metroid triple whammy next year, and they'll have a bonanza on their hands.
