And Now DC Comics Does Aion

No video game is safe from DC Comics’ WildStorm imprint, as NCsoft’s Aion becomes the latest title to get the comic book treatment, with a special issue available at PAX or with purchase at GameStop.

“Aiva’s Story” tells the story of a young Asmodian warrior named Aiva, which seems completely appropriate given the name of the issue. Aiva has vowed vengeance against the Elyos who killed her family during a raid, and the comic tells the story of this quest for revenge through the artwork of Neil Googe and the words of David Noonan and Ricardo Sanchez.

The limited-edition comic will be given away free to folks who purchase the game at GameStop (US only) later this month, with a limited number of copies also available to visitors to NCsoft’s booth at PAX 09 this weekend.

I like the idea of delving more into the fiction of Aion via a comic, but a limited-edition one-shot? That will never do. Full series please.

sweet. i played Aion during the beta, pre-ordered the collectors edtion, am a lifelong comics fan, and live in Seattle and have gone to PAX the last 4 years. this is a win/win/win/win for me and a no-brainer! oh its Wildstorm as well? all thats missing is for it to make me a sandwich and spoon with me ever so gently...

looks like they're trying to appeal to western audiences with this, everything isnt as "pretty" as the game tho

This got posted in a thread yesterday, but now it is the first thing I thought of when I saw the chick in this comic.

That and it seems doubly appropriate since they are revealing this at PAX.

I would love to read the lore of my fav game in comic book fashion, but a limited one-shot makes my hand wanna slap someone

@ArmyofJuan: DC's a pretty cool guy, but that star is just a myth. It's his halo you gotta look out for.

I have this game Pre-Ordered from GameStop myself and pre-orders already got access to all the betas, name Pre-Select, character head start, and even got some in game items. It's cool that they are given this way to now too, I wish it was Manga but I will still gladly take mine when I pick up my game. :)

@NKato: Then you didn't see the giant cyclops with fiery crystals growing outta it in the last panel.

    This isn't interesting to me.

I...don't get this. Most people that play Aion are not the type that will be all too enamored with the DC comics' graphical style Most that do probably aren't going to give the game a second look. So who is this thing suppose to be appealing to?

Obviously, the above is a generalization, and not an absolute, but I think the point stands fairly well.

@ithyphallus, lazy beareaucrat: you hung out with DC? what was he like? Does he really have a star that shoots around him?

  • AxelMinami

This is supposed to be interesting?

  • cjlopez

@ch0mpchomp: yeah, its pretty hard to draw a perspective like that and for it to come out right

  • ch0mpchomp

In the first picture, that lady looks like a dwarf to me. Her legs are very oddly drawn. I get the fact shes flying towards us but still...

Jesus, when will WIldstorms madness END!?!?!? Although i must say the art on this looks better than most of the other stuff they have out like Gears. And really, a one-shot? What could they cover for a game that hasnt been released yet and know nothing about that could keep me interested?

Where the fuck is quality control. Oh wait, it's wildstorm they have none because jim lee is all about some DCUO

  • Outkastprince

Not much of a incentive for buying the game, especially if it's a one shot deal.

Fahey, don't look out the window. I saw a twilight Zone movie that told me looking out doesn't bold well for anyone.
