I've played EVE a little bit, and I love it. The graphics are beautiful and I think it plays quite well. However, it takes up way, way too much time which I simply cannot afford. It's a shame, but it's the curse of the MMORPG (a genre of which I hate every single game I've played except this one.)

The MMORPG is a great example of terrible game design that somehow managed to do well. Players should NEVER have to do mundane, repetitive tasks in a game.

I'm playing Chronotrigger on DS right now, and it's amazing, I missed it years ago when first released, it proves great RPG's are absolutely timeless.

Eve is something that I really want to play, but know I never will due to time & learning curve constraints. The 4 part series on Rock Paper Shotgun just finished and is an excellent read (like every single Eve related tale).

As for the final question about the greatest quality of an RPG, I'm waiting for the day that all games are thought to have great story telling and plots, and not just RPG's. I chose character development as my response to that question, since you know, it's a Role Playing Game...

I tried EVE for a couple of weeks. It's the most user unfriendly game I've ever played; the controls are rubbish, and the game is incredibly unforgiving. Which is a damn shame, because there's an amazing game universe in there. It's designed from the ground up to be "hardcore", a game only enjoyable to people who like their games to treat them the videogame equivalent of S&M, so they can look down on other gamers for being wusses.

"Boredom associated with mundane tasks"

The entire reason I've stopped playing JRPGs. If I have to kill another random blob #34532 just outside of town, I'll scream. As I've said before, any other genre that had such pointless time-wasting would be rubbished by everyone, but somehow it's perfectly acceptable in a JRPG. Ridiculous.
