Konami Digital Entertainment polled 500 Japanese men to find out.
Questions asked include things like if they thought of themselves as a herbivore male (almost 64 per cent said yes!) or whether they enjoyed in-game romance (42 per cent said affirmative).
The grass eater term was coined by a Japanese columnist to describe effeminate young Japanese men who are less interested in, say, dating the opposite sex.
Konami’s poll—if you are one to believe Konami polls—seems to indicate a significant interest in video game characters: One in five Japanese males polled stated that they have felt like falling in love with an in-game character.
Ten in ten Japanese females said this was creepy. Kidding!

“Kidding!”
…what do they say about being some truth to every joke?

I was under the impression that the herbivore term referred to those Japanese men who are not outgoing and do not want to make a move on women. Instead of the “lack of interest” described above. Of course I’m sure there is plenty of overlap.

Well in-game romance is like a fantasy, who wouldn’t want to live their fantasies?
So in a sense its not all that creepy, because we’ve all had them, just that they prefer to vent it in a particular medium.

In game romances? That happens in nearly every Jrpg. ( FF10, Tales of…well all of them)
And usually most of those games want you to ‘become’ the character (in a sense) you’re playing. So I would be suprised if a survey like this aqquired negative results.
Also- Who ever says that they never have thought of an in game character in that light, IVY from Soul Calibur 2. ><
