Assassin’s Creed II iPhone Releasing With Console Cousins

iPhone and iPod Touch owners will get their second helping of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed this November, when Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery hits Apple’s App Store day and date with the console releases.

Ubisoft showed off Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery today at Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event. The game is a 2D platformer that looks relatively nice, and will include the ability to take iPhone pictures of your face and have them appear on wanted posters scattered throughout the game, which seems like the sort of value-added feature that I can quickly forget exists.

Check out Gizmodo for the latest on iPhone and iPod Touch related goodness.

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: STOP! Before you go any further.

I personally prefer my iPhone to the Nintendo DS and the PSP. Since their games are actually fantastic. Maybe you should try them sometime.

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: Let's look at some top Iphone games.

    1. Texas Hold'Em
    2. Moto Racer
    3. Enigmo
    4. Crash Bandicoot Kart
    5. Scrabble

Nintendo DSI and Sony PSP, watch your backs.

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: Good thing they didn't do a chart for profit per title.

  • pinshot

@grantanamo: i actually think the iPhone is rubbish as a games machine but this does look promising. In all fairness.

  • Falsoman

@pinshot: Not sure myself about the controls, but i've heard very nice things about the graphics and controls on the modern warfare ripoff. So this may end up being good.

Usually gameloft games have very good gameplay and price on iphone, they just are generic... but cheap!... but generic.

  • grantanamo

@pinshot: Wow, the ipod is such an innovator. First hero of sparta the GOW clone, then rolando the loco roco clone, now this. Man the iphone is such a gaming icon at this point.

    grantanamo

  • Hamster Of The North

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: that made me lol, so how many of those are actaully gameworthy and not just pong/duckhunt/cardgames/fart apps?

  • BubbleF**kingBuddy

They bragged about having more games on the iPhone than their "competitors".

  • pinshot

@#c15267229: I mean it is really obvious that it was the inspiration...not sure how well it will work out with touch controls but it apparently has a good FPS!

  • pinshot

IM much more impressed by this new HALO RIPPOFF game coming to iphone called NOVA:

  • Hamster Of The North

great, can't wait for this to come out on DS or PSP

/ not hating iphone/touch (I own one) but the controls are like custard on that thing.

  • D-K, it's not butter? no way!

Oh Ubisoft.. you loveable raggamuffin.. had me thinking there wouldn't be an iphone version..

    phjew, sure dodged that bullet

  • jinxman

    um...does anyone care?

    jinxman

  • grantanamo

@SlinkyGuy - So British, I piss tea and poop scones.: Interesting, because, I own an iPhone and I could care less. The iPhone is a piece of shit for gaming (except for Trism, that game is actually decent).

    grantanamo

  • MosesMonster

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: You don't understand though. That's 21,000 games over the DS and PSP. I don't care that out of those 21,000 games, a little less than half or "Lite" versions, aka demos. I don't care that most of those games are clones of others. I don't care that most of those games are shitty.

21,000!!!!! I'd rather play my texas hold'em over Super Mario World. the 800 versions of iMobster that all have increments of ingame money. Those count too!

Granted, ngmoco is making some real big splashes with their games. To bad not enough people support them to get Apple to eyeball them instead of the shovelware guys.

  • Revenge_of_Nekojin

    @hazelnut: The iPhone Assassin's Creed
game is actually better than the DS version.

  • Michael Dukakis for Senate!

  • deanbmmv

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: The DS has no iPod!!! no f**king way!!
Damn Apple sure like to be the company everyone loves to hate.
We may all be fanboys against each others systems, but we all unite against the arrogance that is Apple.

  • grantanamo

@pinshot: I don't understand how Vanilla Ice could get sued for every penny he owned because of, 'dun dun dun du du dun dun' and yet someone can make a game that has Master Chef in it fighting the convection oven and that's A-OK.

    grantanamo

  • deanbmmv

@SlinkyGuy - So British, I piss tea and poop scones.: And the pretentious arrogant Apple owner that we all hate bares his soul.
if you added /sarcasm you may of been saved.

  • Handsome Al

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: But, but.. our chart is bigger. It goes up to 21K.

Nice try though. I mean there's a reason why most games on PSP and DS are priced the way they are. They offer quality.

  • BubbleF**kingBuddy

@SlinkyGuy - So British, I piss tea and poop scones.: I own and iPod Touch, in addition to a PSP and DS. I can say a lot of great things about the product, but nothing about it's games, the majority of which are the definition of shovelware (developed in days, if not hours, and shoved out for cheap to make a quick buck). Even games ported to it by competent devs like Capcom suffer from slowdown and lagged controls (a la Megaman 2). And the real kicker is the fact that the very best games on the platform already have better versions on the "dedicated" handhelds.

  • [ZTF]Is my Name

@SlinkyGuy - So British, I piss tea and poop scones.: STOP! Before you go any further.

Apple is comparing the quality of there games to the quantity of the games on other platforms. Regardless of how you spin it, that doesn't make a lick of sense and is quite pretentious.

  • Indy_aka_Rex

    @BubbleF**kingBuddy:

How long before we start seeing iTouch v. PSP/DSi ads wherein John Hodgman and Justin Long talk about how awesome the iTouch is over the competition because the competition has "No App Store" and "No iPod"?

  • hazelnut

I would much rather prefer quality than mediocrity.

Just a touch screen, no buttons, screw that. I really hope that the next PSP or Nintendo handheld wont stoop to Apple's level. Just stop Apple.

@deanbmmv: A combined effort from Sony and Nintendo to defeat the impending evil. All jokes aside though, I really do have a feeling Sony and Nintendo are at least concerned with the rate of adoption and interest the iphone/touch combination is getting in the casual gaming world. There is no doubt Sony and Nintendo have taken notice to Apple's business model. Both have provided answers in the form of Mini's and DSiWare, not to say that Apple invented online content distribution, but they certainly made it viable.

iTunes appstore is a master class in how to seamlessly integrate both platform and developer as well as providing opportunities for lone devs and smaller operations to get their products onto the marketplace. The fact that they have advanced and recognized media playback abilities unlike the DS and the PSP is only a plus. The majority of the offerings on the appstore are far from fantastic but casual games rarely are, and thats what should be expected from the casual experience.

Apple have realised that many many people like to use the recreational facilities their devices offer, the number one activity being gaming, problem is the majority of those people just dont want to invest their time in a core experience therefore those titles that most of us will see as "shovelware" are perfect for those just looking for a time-wasting, throwaway experience. The iphone excels in this front and, in its current form, has never needed to venture out further as the DS and PSP already have the "core" demographics catered for.

The current iteration of Apples strategy wont be causing any casualties on the handheld front any time soon. They have a market covered with a product which cant really ignite the imagination of those who invest more time into their portable gaming (the limited input capabilities being the underlying factor in this). However, strategies do change, and I can foresee Apple perhaps making a further push into the core side of portable gaming. Such a move would be disastrous for Sony and Nintendo as Apple is already well positioned with an excellent content delivery ecosystem and a long line of developers desperate to get a piece of the pie. I think its this aspect of the iphone/touch potential which may worry Nintendo and Sony most.

@deanbmmv: Actually, the iPhone is the only Apple product I own, lol. Besides that, I'm not really a fan of Apple. I just wanted the most expensive/best phone for my birthday/Christmas Day.

@deanbmmv: SO he should have gotten what? A palm pre, nope NO gaming worth a crap on that, Android? Hah funny. What high and mighty phone would you suggest, any one thats not an iphone cause you hate it so blindly that you wont even accept that people like it, and it has the greatest amount of satisfied users ever in the history of ANY gadget.

You are a star commenter and here you are going on like a freaking 12 year old who hates the popular thing that other people like. Pretty pathetic.

If your interested in reality read this:
    [counternotions.com]

Here is a small excerpt from that article in case your too busy trying to find something else popular to hate.

"So for a more reasoned perspective, let us take a breath and remember what the world was like before Apple introduced the iPhone:

Carriers ruled the industry with an iron fist

To access carriers’ networks handset makers capitulated everything

Carriers dictated phone designs, features, apps, prices, marketing, advertising and branding

Phones were reduced to cheap, disposable lures for carriers’ service contracts"

  • Eulatos

@pinshot: Yes cause HALO was the FIRST game EVER with space marines and guys in armored suits. Give me a break.

Halo is nothing but a giant generic ripoff of Warhammer 40k crossed with a much more mundane story and universe.

    Eulatos

  • Eulatos

@Outkastprince: How is this list bad? The actually good games on ds and psp are few and far between. And dont even get into shovelware, ubisoft has that end covered pretty well.

I enjoy the crap out of many awesome iphone games, CIV, Wolfenstein, Monopoly, Uniwar, Rolando, F.A.S.T., Zenonia, Enviro Bear, flight control, the list goes on and on. There is only 2 games that have ever even slightly interested me on the psp or ds, Final Fantasy Tactics (any kind), and GTA Chinatown which is coming to the iphone.

Say what you will, but you could make a list of 10 really shitty ds/psp games just as fast as you could iphone games, the only difference is your list is 500 dollars worth of crap, mine would be 5. I read this site alot and i cannot think of a single ds/psp game that makes me want to run out and get it right now.

  • BoTheDestroyer

@BubbleF**kingBuddy: DS and PSP aren't even in the same league as the iPhone. They aren't even in the same ballpark. Completely unrelated markets.

No one goes to Best Buy and says "HMM, I want a handheld gaming system. Do I buy a PSP, DS, or iPhone?". No you buy an iPhone because its a PHONE, not for the shitty games that you can put on it.

Game apps on the iPhone are what games on a phone always have been: extras. Time wasters when you forgot to bring your DS or PSP on the bus and don't feel like bugging your friends with text messages about the old lady in seat 10.

Now excuse me, I need to get back to Dissidia.

    @deanbmmv: ooooh... burn

  • Yonderboy

Wolfenstein RPG on the iPhone is pretty fun. I wouldn't write it off completely.

  • deanbmmv

@MrMuhnquai: I don't dislike the iPhone. I dislike the culture of Apple.
The one where what Apple creates is the best in its sector. That you have to own an Apple product as a indicator of status.
My current phone is rather serviceable, not really very fancy, it calls n text my friends n family. Exactly what I want from a phone. Nothing more, nothing less. A phone is a phone, an MP3 plays music, and my computer...computes.

  • MrMuhnquai

@deanbmmv: I'm starting to realise that the people that complain most about people having iphones are the people that, deep down inside, want them the most.

You can have a go on mine if you like.

  • rorkimaru

is this 2d or 3d. Article says 2d but the image says otherwise

@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Oh no I don't mean that about Assassin's Creed. Its just I would rather play it on something that has buttons. Not being a dick but yeah.

  • deanbmmv

    @Eulatos: I don't hate Apple blindly.
If it helps I dislike Microsoft too.
    Neither are very nice companies.
But of course I must love the iPhone though, because it allows me to have a computer in my pocket, a rather hamstrung one, but a computer not the less. It lets me play games. I never wanted to game on a mobile, and I certainly never thought how innovative it much be to game.. without any buttons.
I like how it solved Americas apparent carrier crisis so much that Apple n AT&T are under investigation by the FCC....
So yeah, Lets not blindly 'hate' on the jesus phone, lets all blindly love it in stead. The perfect solution to all lifes problems.
Also I didn't suggest Android or WebOS either.
In fact my main complaint against him was the little "I have an iPhone, the rest of you are poor worthless and live in slums because you don't have iPhones"

  • Interstella5555

@[ZTF]Is my Name: True, but it's hard to judge the overall "quality" of games on a given platform. There are a ton of shit games in the App store, but there's also thousands and thousands of games in there. Both the DS and PSP have crappy games, but the pool is smaller.

  • Eulatos

@deanbmmv: Well we can all agree that the smug attitude is silly.

    Eulatos

  • jinxman

    I'm so happy I started a flame war :)

and to be clear, i can't stand the crazy apple supporters either, but I do own an Ipod and plan on getting a touch somewhere in the near future.
