Aussie Charts: How Did Batman Do?

Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the best-reviewed games all year. And from hearing you guys discussing it, it certainly sounds like plenty of you bought it. But how many is plenty?

Not enough to knock Wii Sports Resort or Wii Fit off the top, that’s how many. Still, a solid result first week in and I’d expect it to maintain that slot for a few weeks as the positive word-of-mouth spreads.

All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e September 6:

1. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
2. Wii Fit (Wii)
3. Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum (360)
5. Mario Kart (Wii)
6. Wii Play (Wii)
7. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Wii)
8. More Brain Training (DS)
9. Grand Slam Tennis (Wii)
10. Ashes Cricket 2009 (PS3)

Quite an effort, considering it was only available for sale for 3 of the 7 days of that week.

I picked it up at launch and have been enjoying every minute of it. Looking forward to the free DLC in the next 2 weeks too!

How could WII sport and Fit outsell Batman?

Australians must not care about quality release a crappy set of mini games and you will outsell great games.

Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort are great games, they’re just not made for you.

You really haven’t been paying attention, have you?

Such a shame that a AAA title like Batman can’t take top spot over….Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort!?!?! I do wish that the challenges were a tad easier though :/

And I wish they were twice as hard… difference between gamer and casual I guess

I finished it on hard first time through, I just think the difference in difficulty is really apparent.

After the gamecube, which i still have very fond memories of, i really regret backing nintendo with the wii. I was a huge supporter at the start, and now i wish it would just bugger off. Maybe it’s time to separate the ‘casual’ gamer crap from the ‘normal’ stuff.

In all honesty – it’s a stretch calling wiifit a game.

Im guessing the DSE Bundle of Batman and the PS3 slim is the reason that the PS3 is ahead, but what about Ashes Cricket. Seems strange, i would have thought that to be a game that will sell better on the 360

I’m amazed at Ashes as well, first of all it’s been in the Top 10 since it got released back in the first week of August…

Secondly, it’s been the PS3 version the whole time that’s won…

I think the PS3 version had a 1 week jump on the other console versions.

Also, according to vgchartz.com, it seems batman is also selling better on the PS3.

Eh, Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction beats it, in my books.

Great game, but my only gripe is that it doesn’t know whether it’s linear or free roam. Ratchet and Clank rocks the Linear.

I think what it knows is how to keep the player focused, get plentiful reuse of environments, extend content on subsequent visits with mechanical unlocks and allow the player to explore and participate in secondary gameplay activities at pretty much any point.

It’s a linear game in the sense that there’s no choice of the sequencing of events. There is no adverse effect presented by the open world layout given the presence of objective waypoints.

How can u compare batman to ratchet and clank?! They are completely different!

All I see is Batman AA at the number 1 spot. If you consider for even one second, Wii sports is a valid video game then you’re fooling yourself.

Ha, amusing. I brought Batman:AA on PS3 and got Dad Ashes 09 on PS3 for Fathers Day. While Mum brought Dad Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit for Father’s day.

If we’re going to count bundled crapware in the “games” charts, maybe we can also start counting Minesweeper and Solitaire whenever someone buys a new PC…

It’s Wii Sports and not Wii Sports Resort that is bundled with the Wii.

I may be wrong, but isn’t Sports Resort bundled with a controller?

Point is taken though, I’ll research prior to my next rant ;)

Quite a lot of people I know have imported it from O/S which would obviously decrease the local sales to some extent – just wonder whether it was enough to prevent it from hitting #1?

I can’t believe this Wii “Im not even a proper game” crap can keep topping the sales charts. Who buys this rubbish? At least I can’t see a Sims title in the list.
