In a Q&A following Mike Capps’ session at Tokyo Game Show, the Epic chief said any Gears of War sequel will be made for “the next console generation, whenever that is”.
For his part, Capps guesses that’s about “four or five years away, I think”. Right now, Epic is focused on developing Unreal Engine 4, which has been in development for the past seven years in anticipation of the next console gen.
“We’re very concerned that the next generation will be massively parallel and most engines won’t be able to adapt for that,” Capps said.

The next generation consoles? That is quite a long time for a triology sequal.

I beg to differ, if the next generation is a few more years away, lets say an announcement of a new console by any of the devs, well mainly PS & Xbox – i don’t expect a new one to be RELEASED til say 2012 -2013.
I reckon a Gears will come before them. It’s the jackpot for Epic and they’ll realize they need it soon enough.

I’m 22 years old. I got 3 kids. I wanna know how this story ends but 4 or 5 years from now? I probably won’t even still be playing video games. This blows.

Man, that blows… It’s like playing Halo 1 and 2, then playing Halo 3… it’s so different from the first two… that’s not what I want from the Gears trilogy.

That’s annoying, why wait for next gen consoles that haven’t even been announced when Win7 / DX11 systems are just around the corner unless the unreal 4 engine in nowhere near completion in which case, he should just say so.
