Crysis 2’s Nanosuit 2: Up Close And Personal

Not only did Crytek have a life-sized version of their Nanosuit 2 on display at Gamescom, they were also handing out this nifty sales brochure for the battle armour.

    @dracosummoner: It can with cheats enabled. That can be fun in it's own way too.

    -MasterDex-

  • moonrad

    @( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake!: That was my first thought! It couldn't even be passed off as muscular, just fat!

  • dracosummoner

    @-MasterDex-:

    All right, thanks. It's just that I'd somehow gotten the impression that the Nanosuit 2 was going to have insane amounts of energy at its disposal.

  • Kermi

    This image made me stop scrolling because I thought it said "Nanoslut" 2, which would have been a far more exciting article for me.

  • -MasterDex-

    @dracosummoner: The same way Crysis 1 was difficult. The amount of energy you use decreases with each hit you take, power you use so that if you have no energy in your suit, chances are you're dead to rights.

    -MasterDex-

  • Ray-Jin

    look at his Mighty Bionic Balls ^^

  • Ghetto Cornetto

    @Stuart Bradley Newsom: You are seven new kinds of shit, leave it out.

  • Jarvgrimr

    I personally like the stocky build they've given the character. Makes hiim look more imposing and more solid.

    Jarvgrimr

  • HelmetRule

    this suit would literally rip its user apart...

    HelmetRule

  • Hiero

    Will it blend?

  • Sonic84

    @snowtires: So much win right there.

    Sonic84

  • MyNameIsTooAwesome

    Can it Run Cry...*Get's raped in the face*.

    Nah it needs more legs i concurr, and I am guessing kind of a god mod ala COD, where there is no life bar.

  • dracosummoner

    @kearneybobs:

    GAH!

    @curly haired boy:

    GAH!

    @Yossarian:

    Excellently played.

  • dracosummoner

    @rogsim:

    Hearted. (Sorry, can't promote. Please accept this instead.)

  • dracosummoner

    @Stuart Bradley Newsom:

    That would make for an interesting conflict. As would the 'zombie soldiers' idea.

    I'd rather not think about what zombies could do with nanosuits ... though if they all went camo, one could have an intriguing suspense set-up ...

  • Altima NEO

    I wish his legs were a little longer.

    He looks like he has too much torso

    Altima NEO

  • dracosummoner

    @ Ryakudatsu:

    Dang it, dang it, you beat me to it!

    Good work, the both of you.

    (Also, that plug-in's actual functionality sounds kinda gross, but you gotta do what you gotta do ...)

  • dracosummoner

    @-MasterDex-:

    Nice!

    Hmm ... they quoted Patton! Yay!

    They also quoted Cromwell? And Machiavelli?

    Oh, well. This still sounds really impressive (but looks a bit odd).

    Though, if the suit "laughs at almost anything short of a direct hit with a battlefield nuke," maybe I'm looking too deeply into this, but I'd like to know how Crysis 2 is supposed to be "difficult" unless that statement is a huge exaggeration.

  • Erion04

    @Stuart Bradley Newsom: Well aren't you a charming fellow.

    Erion04

  • TheGreySpectre

    @Uncle_Uzi: While you would like to think that, I seriously doubt it. Life is cheap for the US military and My guess is that those suits would run 1 Million+ if something similar came into existence. Far greater than the value of an individual soldier. If something like this was fully developed that my guess is only certain spec ops teams would receive them.

    TheGreySpectre

  • Stuart Bradley Newsom

    @Moleculor: Yes it does. It makes absolute sense though. When someone dies, they decompose and become energy for other organisms. By control said energy, we can create a sort of continuous finite energy for a soldier. Quite ingenious.

    For #7, I don't see that. I can see the player getting hacked by an outside source though, losing control.

    Stuart Bradley Newsom

  • Stuart Bradley Newsom

    @Man in the mirror: Wow! How long did it take you to figure that out? What an idiot.

    Stuart Bradley Newsom

  • Lord Raggleus Fraggleus

    @MaWeiTao: Why would state-of-the-art equipment look cool? It's functionality, not a fashion contest. Also, it's meant to interact with all the bodily systems, which is probably why it looks like the human body stripped of skin and bones.

  • Lord Raggleus Fraggleus

    @Man in the mirror: Exactly what I was thinking.

  • khronos27

    @eatsleepdie: Uh, no? Crysis on medium looks better than almost any game out right now, and any mid-range gaming computer can run the game on medium.

    ANYthing under 4 years old can run it on low.

  • Man in the mirror

    Looks like a human body without skin.

    Man in the mirror

  • Ryakudatsu

    @SanaEquiesterer: OM NOM NOM NOM

  • artofwar420

    Occlusion and stuff.

  • Span_Wolf

    @Moleculor: That's actually a cool idea.

    Span_Wolf

  • Yamato

    @-MasterDex-: maybe he put it on ultra-low, where its 8bit?

  • -MasterDex-

    @Devilbless: It runs at between 25-30fps. 30fps being about the max it runs at. I don't know if the multiplayer also runs the same but as far as the singleplayer goes, that's all it runs at.

    -MasterDex-

  • -MasterDex-

    @BloodEden: said:

    Her name is Olga, she likes long walks on the beach, cleaving men in half with her thighs, and clubbing. Is this special forces operative the one for you?

    -MasterDex-

  • Yamato

    @snowtires: +100 internet points

  • Devilbless

    @-MasterDex-: Wait wait, when did Killzone 2 go below 35-45 FPS?

  • Yossarian

    @kearneybobs: lol, very nice... it's yellow, though, so where are the polka dots?

  • Junker

    @Yossarian: Haha! It kinda does look like it's from They Live. Though Roddy Piper would still kick its ass.

  • MaWeiTao

    Somehow they managed to make a high-tech suit look really goofy. It's not particularly intimidating.

    Beyond making the wearer look ridiculous, this thing seems to have all its sensitive parts exposed.

    MaWeiTao

  • SanaEquiesterer

    "Necro-Organic Metabolites plug-in (NOM)...extract usable energy from battlefield carrion."

    I see wut they did thar.

    SanaEquiesterer

  • snowtires

    Lord Zedd, is that you?

    snowtires

  • DarCowAlways

    @rogsim: I lol'd. Someone promote this ;D

  • Sarcasmancer

    Impressive combat capabilities and all, but it makes you look fat.

  • rogsim

    @rogsim: The Crotchel Region Automated Plasmatic Planetary Evisceration Resonator, when fully charged, can vaporize entire planetary objects and bodies in space. Advanced gyroscopic stabilizers and voice-activated encrypted biometric authentication require the operator to actuate the weapon by swiftly moving the hips of the nanosuit backwards then forwards with a quick motion whilst vocalizing the firing command of "pew pew pew".

  • Moleculor

    Does picture #10 actually say the suit can power itself on the bodies of the dead?

    And does picture #7 make anyone think we're going to see ZOMBIE nanosuits? Like... the soldier inside is dead, but the suit keeps him moving?

    Moleculor

  • -MasterDex-

    @kearneybobs: Ha! Nicely done.

    -MasterDex-

  • -MasterDex-

    @eatsleepdie: You've never played the game. I can play everything high with 2x AA on an 8800GT on Warhead and the first game is much the same apart from the heavy snowy areas. Sure, it might be running at 35-45fps but that's still a good bit better than the oft-loved KIllzone 2.

    Also, even when you lower the settings, the game still looks great.

    Maybe you're just trying to play beyond your means.

    -MasterDex-

  • Kral2

    @eatsleepdie: Crysis ran great on max on a high-end 3 year old computer. Today you can get a much better video card for under $100. Seriously, cry more. Wait.. Maybe that's why they call it Cry-sis?

    Kral2

  • Syril

    Why play as a character when I can play as a walking muscular system instead?

    Syril

  • rogsim

    I wonder if that metal thong codpiece has some cool functions built into it. Maybe it hides a laser in it, discharges a highly corrosive acid or is some scent-based less-than-lethal crowd control weapon.

  • Zikus

    Is it just me or does the center of the body armor look like a face with a smile? Eyes on the metal strip and a mouth just below.

    Zikus

  • Snake

    @eatsleepdie: i can play it on max everything on max without lags
    phenom 2 2,3 ghx (quadcore) 4 gb ram (hypergate 800 ddr2) HD4870 (ATI Powercooler)

  • curly haired boy

    @kearneybobs: i would pay good money to see a crysis 2 cho aniki mod :3

    curly haired boy

  • otis123

    @JAGJEET: if you have a core 2 and like a 9400 you could run it, if not a pc with those specs is like $400

    otis123

  • SuperTongue

    @Uncle_Uzi: Well technically, the Koreans seem to have a few.

    Woops, I guess you could call that a spoiler.

  • Shaun Keogh

    @eatsleepdie: truley spoken like someone who's never played the game. i play Crysis and Crysis: Warhead often on max settings, and they both run perfectly fine.

    Shaun Keogh

  • rogsim

    @kearneybobs: Looks like one of those freaky female bodybuilders.

  • MACH1ne

    @-MasterDex-: I agree with you about the thong :)
    Also there was nothing with the first suit, I wish they teased us more about story&multiplayer...

  • Mega-Driven

    Thong-th-th-th-thong.

    This suit looks like a gay bodybuilding robo-gorilla ready to play extreme paintball.

    Seriously, image 8. It just looks very strange.

  • eatsleepdie

    @deanbmmv:

    crysis still runs like shit at max settings no matter what hardware you have, and the game still looks like shit unless it's at max settings.

    eatsleepdie

  • deanbmmv

    @JAGJEET: You'd be surprised on what PC's can play it.
    Crysis is 2 years old and Moores Law comes into effect in that time period.
    So grab the Demo (on Fileplanet I think) n give it a shot. You may not be able to play it on Very High, but Medium is good enough, especially as a console comparison.

  • Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compati

    @Yossarian: I prefer this one

  • kearneybobs

    @rogsim:

    kearneybobs

  • JAGJEET

    still need to reiterate, i can't buy if the first one is not out for ps3, i can't get into a series without playing the first, and I don't have enough to fork over for a capable pc.

  • Tom Clancy's Samuraidino

    @ddmeightball: But will this ban play crysis 2?

  • indyit

    @( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake!: was thinking the same thing.

  • Yossarian

    @kitsuneconundrum: We have the technology.

  • rogsim

    @-MasterDex-: I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. Thanks!

  • Yossarian

    1 rule for a Cyrsis Nanosuit. OBEY!

  • Uncle_Uzi

    That's awesome!!!! God if this technology were real, you know the U.S. would not only buy an ASSLOAD of these, but also probably either push for an exclusivity contract with "Crynet", or attempt to buy the company outright. I know I wouldn't want this technology in the hands of TERRORISTS.

  • stradric

    Sure, it looks cool, but what does this mean for the game? Can I now run more than 20 feet in Maximum Speed?

  • rogsim

    If the muscle sinew sections were red I'd be freaked out to see something like that (if it wasn't cloaked of course) creeping around the jungle.

  • -MasterDex-

    Always loved the Crysis nanosuit. The new one still looks good but it's a lot beefier and it looks like it has a built in thong.

    -MasterDex-

  • -MasterDex-

    @Ryan Meehan: You might not need it if you can play the original Crysis - wanting to run Crysis 2 with all the extra bells and whistles however is another story

    -MasterDex-

  • MadMinstrel

    @( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake!: Yup. Kind of, uh, big boned if you ask me.

  • Outkastprince

    @ddmeightball: Oh, I see now. I'll admit I got the joke and it did make me smile a bit, but like many jokes on the net, I assume people have run this joke to the ground.

    Outkastprince

  • ddmeightball

    @Outkastprince: Crysis is a PC game that is graphically very beautiful. Alot of gaming sites, when running tests on the graphics card(s), use Crysis as the de facto standard for taxing your system to see how well it runs graphically intense games.

    like the sarcasm btw... ;-)

    ddmeightball

  • SsLordMagus

    @ddmeightball:

    What joke? I don't know what you are talking about.

    SsLordMagus

  • ( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake

    Looks like a high tech fat-suit to me :/

  • Outkastprince

    @ddmeightball: I have no idea whatsoever what this Crysis thing is about and what's the joke about?

    Outkastprince

  • $cOrP1()_g@m3R

    sweeeeeet ^___^

  • duckncover

    lol @ 10 yummy battlefield carrion!

    duckncover

  • deanbmmv

    I'm still holding judgement on CryEngine 3 until we get 720p (at least) footage straight form consoles and PC.
    I'm hoping that with it's console focus that it means that the PC version will have better scalability n be more optimized. But it could just as easily mean it will be gimped.
    Also does that new suit look chubbier/stockier than the old one?

  • Neo Deus

    It may just be me, but the legs of that suit look pretty short in comparison to the body as a whole.

  • greyhoundbus

    @Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compatible: And does it cost five hun.... oh.

    greyhoundbus

  • pissa

    so it's basically the same thing with more adjectives?

  • Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compati

    @lostarchitect: way ahead of you.

  • kitsuneconundrum

    so...harder faster better and stronger?

    kitsuneconundrum

  • ddmeightball

    Kotaku, please institute a ban hammer Monday immediately to get rid of all the terds who are going to make the "will it play Crysis 2" jokes...

    ddmeightball

  • Ryan Meehan

    well, I guess now's about the time to start saving up for that new video card.

    Ryan Meehan

  • lostarchitect

    I can't wait for all the "but will it play crysis...2?!" cracks. sigh.

  • Maddogdw

    You would think that by this time in the future, the person wearing this would be able to NOT BE SHOT FROM 600 yards away. And that he wouldn't be able to take damage.

  • Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compati

    but, can it run cry... oh.

  • belo

    MAXIMUM NERDAGE

    couldn't resist
