If you had enough time to read my comment this far, you could probably have watched one of them so far. Nonetheless, here's a quick breakdown:
The PS3 with 3.00 firmware is about one second faster than the one with 2.80.

@PegasusActual: Actually the term "light fixtures" can refer to a bunch of different lighting options, some of which doesn't have to be bolted down, ie. a lamp. A "fixed light fixture" however, refers to the ones that are built right into the house.

@Paradox me: The no loading between chapters or even ever during gameplay, is one of the reasons why I love Uncharted 1 so much. Load screens always sorta detract from the immersion of any game or environment. It happens in alot of games, c'est la vie. But it doesn't happen in Uncharted, it's just one seamless scene after another.

Please please do this again for Uncharted 2!

i think 2.8 was better... only the dynamic themes is nice in 3.0.

if you watched all those videos from begining to end then you already wasted more times than those few seconds faster loading time will save you

2. I think that if those few seconds for something to load up are something you really need then maybe you shouldn't be playing games like this anyway.

3. #2 contradicts my true opinion on speeding things up by however much because I like that it goes just a little bit faster, but it was just a thought I had, nothing too serious :P

If you check the 'source' linked it's not consistent with the Wikipedia author's classifications in the slightest. Not to mention it's the only 'source', and in no way qualifies as a reliable source.

Essentially the Wikipedia article is well meaning, but largely made up and inaccurate with regards to terminology.

You really don't have to look much farther than a dictionary on this one. A fixture by definition is not readily movable. This common sense definition is also clearly used everywhere light fixtures and lamps are sold. Fixtures are always mounted in place, and lamps (not free standing light fixtures, or any other contradictory nonsense) are always readily movable.

Regardless, even if he's dealing with poorly placed light fixtures, surely his television isn't fixed. Even in a dire situation where there's just no convenient way to work around his television placement, adding a simple floor lamp to supplement the inconvenient lighting fixtures is a simple glare free solution for him driving his poor family nuts with his insane 'gaming in the dark' bullshit.

I might be a little oversensitive about the issue having worked as a QA tester in a Sony dungeon where they had the same eyeball destroying solution to glare issues.

@Netnavi: yeh bbc iplayer can only be viewed in UK... much like how hulu can only be viewed in the US (dont know if thats on the PS3 tho, dont think so)

Only noticed last night that here in the U of K 3.0 added BBC iPlayer to the XMB. Immediately rewatched Shooting Stars on my PS3 to enjoy Vic telling Jack Dee he looked like a "Doomed horse" again. My joy was complete.

@otis123: I left the sparkles but I do miss the jingle I don't like the new one very well.

@Antihippy: the load times were reduced SIGNIFICANTLY for uncharted with firmware 3.0. REALLY impressive speed gain.

I couldn't help but laugh during the Uncharted video. Are these really considered acceptable load times among PS3 users?

@roq: well the first uncharted is a beautiful game, much more so than anything released on 360 until this day, and uncharted is like 2-3 years old

@roq: IIRC, that was also the first level which had a much more complex intro cutscene than other levels had, which probably accounts for the longer loading time. I don't think other levels had a loading time QUITE so bad.

@roq: Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I think a lot of that has to do with Blu Ray, Uncharted uses a lot of cut scenes / loading pauses...the one major disadvantage BluRay has is it has VERY slow access time, RPM's or whatever you call it to access memory off the disk. Much slower than DVD. I think, again, feel free to flame/correct me if I am totally off base there.

Don't worry, I'm sure it's not as bad as a Sony dungeon, I have windows.

@PSWii2008: Firmware 2.8 for Slims are different then Firmware 2.8 for Phats.
Firmware 2.8 Slim is like Firmware 3.0 without some of the new features.

Thanks for the info, guys. Looks like this is a game-specific issue. I'm still on the fence about getting a PS3, but I'm having a hard time saying no at the new $300 price.

Wait! How come the old Playstation 3 logo and jingle didn't show up before Batman in Firmware 2.8? Is it because both of the systems are Slims?
