Happy Birthday Dreamcast! Here’s A New Game
Time to celebrate/mourn, Sega fans, for today is the 10th anniversary of the Dreamcast’s launch in North America. How time flies! And to mark the occasion, Dreamcast owners have a new game to look forward to.
It’s called Rush Rush Rally Racing. Don’t expect Metro Street Racer; this looks more like Mega Drive Street Racer. OK, that’s a bit mean. Sorry. After all, when a new Dreamcast game is released, we should be thankful somebody is still going to the effort, and concentrate on that, rather than the game’s looks.
It’s $US22, will be available on Amazon, and you can even pre-order the game on the publisher’s site. It’ll be out next month.

@twinturbo2:
Speaking of 09/09/09 I just realised I share my birthday with the dreamcast.
(I never was much of a console kid).
Funny you should mention Metro Street Racer, because I just bought a Dreamcast and that was on of the games that came with it.
Still not played it mind you. I'd be surprised if it holds a candle to Crazy Taxi 2 or Sega GT.
Polysics_2004
Looks a lot like this Amiga game, Super Cars... [www.youtube.com] (it's a long vid, just watch it until you get the general idea).
You know... this looks fun. I'm interested.
That's funny. I'd like a publisher to come out with a few SNES games while they're at it.
What a cash in.

Speaking of 09/09/09, here's a link that I found interesting.

In the meantime, I have a Beatles Rock Band Duo Jet guitar controller to pick up...

It's made by Senile team? My favorite dev.
Oh it actually exists?
Dance Dance Racing Revolution!

is that a UFO going after a cow? This is amazing btw.
wintersault
I think I'll pass. Nostalgia is one thing, this is ridiculous.
@ZhouYu: So you're 11 years old?
@wintersault: What is amazing?
The game?
The cover?
The UFO?
The cow?
The UFO going after the cow?
TELL US DAMMIT!

@AndyMatronic: Sonic Team's spent the last 5 or 6 years shitting into a bedpan and dribbling all over themselves.
@UncleSephiroth: There is, but for Emulators because well...not exactly easy to secure "blank" SNES carts ;)
@ZhouYu: Happy birthday, dude!
twinturbo2
@Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compatible: It's like Sonic Team but with a bed pan
@ourovoros: ya YA!! this is going to be bugging me all day at work! D=<
Don't worry. I still love you, Dreamcast.
KaneRobot
Sigh* Oh Dreamcast..how I loved you...

Sold! I just pre-ordered it. (-:
Dreamcast rules!

@Polysics_2004: Metropolis Street Racer is better than both Crazy Taxi 2 and Sega GT. I went back to it the other week and ended up getting hooked. The atmosphere and ambiance the game gives off is still unmatched even by it's successive PGR titles (which while great in their own right, just don't have the feel MSR had)
Will definitely be buying this as a mad DC collector, but it looks like a decent game too, and finally not a shooter! :D Iloved the old Super Cars games and Power Drive Rally on the Jaguar/Mega Drive.
MikeRox
This kind of looks like a mashup of A.P.B., 4x4 Offroad Racing, and the original GTA games. I approve!
@Pattypie: Who taught you math?
There have been new Dreamcast games coming out year on year all the way to the present day...

Wait...does the developer logo on the bottom left corner say: "Senile" ?
how appropriate

$22?
Really?
Wow. I understand the want for a new Dreamcast game, but man, this is just sad. They might have done better releasing it on Live Arcade or PSN for $10.
I have to say, this must just be love for the dear Dreamcast (never owned one, but I like the name). This looks like it could easily be put on the DS, but I applaud the devs for trying to support a system nobody really plays anymore. It's sort of like when you see someone's made a game for the Atari: it's love for the console, not of money.
This game neither looks impressive (for dreamcast standards) nor looks fun (I'm not into top-view racers). I'm pretty sure there are plenty of free flash games that are similar with equal quality. This trailer and announcement just leaves me with the impression that these guys made a game for digital distribution, but rather than compete with better XBLA/PSN games, they are going to exploit the anniversary of a dead system with a huge fan base behind it.
:'(
this looks like alot of fun. There hasn't been a racing game like this in a while.
@InsidiousTuna: +1 :)
DaStinger
Still have mine from launch day with the awesome orange DC shirt, bag, and tons of goodies! THE DC LIVES ON!!!!!!
jikifreak
@UncleSephiroth: Be prepared to pay a lot more. Carts are a lot pricier than CD's, when it comes to releases like this.
Woo. The old .mod file sound. Definitely retro.
Shin-san
@AndrosZ: You *really* think $22 is too much? Seriously? That is an incredibly reasonable price IMO. This isn't being made by some big-name company, y'know. I don't think you're getting the point of games like these, it's (presumably) not to make money, but to keep one of the greatest consoles ever alive. The Legend Will Never Die!
Why is this not an XBLA game? Or really, why does this exist in the first place.
@jikifreak: Never had a DC... but I have my glorious DC cap which I´m wearing now! hehehehe
@ProbablyGoingToGetBanned:
Yes, yes I do. You made a great point too, its not made by a big-name company so why $22? And this game won't keep the console alive, you will, by playing the great games that are already out on it.
@ProbablyGoingToGetBanned: Fuck yeah! Got a DC, PSX, and Wii. Got all the Games I want to play.
I want to buy this.
@Shin-san: Yeah, that's some sweet jams! :D
@superhappyfuntime: your completely missing the point....
Mihos
@e-friend: This game was announced a long time ago. No cash-in here, bud.
I like how the team admits their senility. It's nice of them to produce a game for poor, old DC once in awhile, though.
I may, or may not have given my DreamCast a hug for its birthday while I relived some Sonic Adventure 2 this morning. =)
AcousticCurves
I think I'll pick this up just to support it. I know Play Asia made a game for it too.
Day 1.
Eschekt
Wow, actually I wasn't expecting that - the game looks pretty cool. Looks a lot like Thrash Rally on Neo Geo, or the classic Micro Machines games - great overhead 2D racers.
Good clean look too, and stuff like the headlights is really nice looking.
Maybe it could be done on DS, but it probably wouldn't - whoever made it would use a 3D engine and do polygon cars. I... might actually buy this one!
firenze
wasn't Playstation born on 9-9 as well? I never owned one, but I recall the ENOS is coming campaign, as I had written a story a few years prior to that(I didn't know jack about consoile games at the time), involving a character named enos, who was damn scary sumavbich, and the fact that the tv was telling me he was coming on my birthday.... well ....that put the UPS delivery into my shorts, in short order.
wth was that? Seen better homebrew games.
[i.neoseeker.com]
Dreamcast could do that, and a top down micromachines game is what we get? epic fail
...It's...2D from the top...?
:\
I expected an arcade-style racer...
Since when did we get a gameboy advance emulator on dreamcast??
Oh.. thats a real dreamcast game.
OOps lol.
They coul dhave done so much more, but it does look kinda fun...... on a GBA
Ur-Lord-Crypy
@Ur-Lord-Crypy:
What else did you expect from a homebrew team? Most homebrew retail games are 2D or use little to no 3D effects. Just be grateful people are still putting out effort for Dreamcast software.
@stafax: I know that we gamers feel that we have to be cynical bastards about everything, but I'm not sure there's really anything TO be cynical about here.
You don't have to necessarily appreciate or understand what the developers are trying to do here, but then that's sort of the point. You either buy it or you don't. There's really no need to project your jaded views of the industry onto a group of folks you don't know from that festering boil on your ass.
Cyberxion101
@randomrawr: And so are alot of other people. The difference? These guys want us to pay for it.
Looks fun, I might have to pick it up, but that's more out of my unabashed love for the Dreamcast.
AlienRopeBurn
@AndrosZ:
See, when he says that the developers are trying to "keep the console alive", he's not talking about some abstract concept like keeping it alive in your heart. He's talking about keeping it alive by continuing to support it long after the industry at large gave up on it. It's technically a dead console if nobody is releasing any new games for it, no matter how near and dear to your heart it is.
As for the price, you need to understand that when you're not a big company with millions upon millions of dollars in the bank, you tend to have to charge more for your stuff in order to hopefully break even. And when you're developing something for a long-dead niche system, the chance you'll do that dips pretty low. And then you have to consider that they probably don't have a mega-huge run going for this game, which tends to drive up the per-unit price even higher. Also, besides that trailer, they don't have any advertising up for the game, so nobody is going to be aware of it besides those of us who hang out on enthusiast game sites.
So no, 22 bucks is not too much to ask for this game. At all. You're certainly not obligated to buy it, but understanding how it's priced might help put things into perspective.

@Ehardergardens:
The PSOne or PS2? The PS2 launched in 2000. The Dreamcast had a full year head start against Sony in the last generation of consoles.
@WhiteMage:
Again, the days of fully 3D Dreamcast games are long over. The Dreamcast hasn't had a true 3D release in years. The most recent would be Counter-Strike for the DC which was a heavily modified version of the Half-Life Dreamcast engine.
Today in honor of the Dreamcast I'm going to play Shenmue all day.
@AndrosZ:
Unless you are a true fan of the Dreamcast in which case you will be all over this game. You are obviously not a true Dreamcast fan as you just don't get it.
@stafax:
Sorry but the days of fully 3D Dreamcast games is long over. The Dreamcast lives on with simple 2D sidescrollers, SHMUPS and games like this. Learn to deal with it or forget about the Dreamcast. I however am highly excited about this release. Yet another game to add to the best console of all time.
@xnamkcor:
That's because this is a retail game. Retail Dreamcast games aren't anything new unless you haven't been keeping tabs on the DC Scene. There have been many great games released in the past 4 years for the little system and they've all costed money.

@[DFX] Deimos:
The Sequel was alright but I am not a fan of the XBox version of it. The original game was simply amazing in every aspect though.
@randomrawr: Shenmue, as a IP, had so much potential. It is a shame that we only have one good game and one shitty sequal as a result.
@cippycup:
That's only $175? Holy crap.

This is a full Dreamcast Dev Kit with GD Rom burner!!
cippycup
@randomrawr: playstation 1... this was like early 90's Looks like it was ENOS lives which is probably why I thought it was creepy as I had figured out how to kill off the character in a satisfying way (at the time).
@cippycup: do want
Pre-ordered mine. Yeah Ill probablly only play the game twice but still would be nice to get a new dreamcast game. Ill have to break out the system for a run through of some of the games on it.
@InsidiousTuna: I giggled.
