Jedi Knight Series Coming To Steam

1:40PM September 12, 2009 | Luke Plunkett

Lucasarts announced last night that the Jedi Knight series of Star Wars shooters will be making their way to Steam next week.

Which is a slightly confusing statement. After all, Lucasarts’ FPS Star Wars titles began in 1995 with Dark Forces, whose sequel, Jedi Knight, was Dark Forces II. Making it part of the Dark Forces series, not the Jedi Knight series, the name the games assumed when moving onto the later Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

So I guess what we’re trying to say is: we really hope Dark Forces is included, because it probably did the best job of the lot in really nailing the tone and “feel” of Star Wars.

Dark Forces being the old school doom style one?

Yep. Oh man, I must’ve played the demo for that (included with the Lucasarts games collection #2 IIRC) about ten bajillion times. Eventually I borrowed my friends copy and finally got to play the rest of it (and wasn’t disappointed).

Dark Forces was one of my favourite games, back in the day. I’d gladly pay a few bucks to give it another go.

I still think Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is the best Star Wars FPS, and the best Lightsaber combat.

I love that game, was the first Special Edition game I got, in a Massive Tin with a T-Shirt….

The Original Titles of the games were:

Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces
Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast… ect.

Can’t wait, DFII and Jedi Outcast were just brilliant. I especially loved the Cutscenes from DF2, which were shot with real people, and was the first media outside of the actual Star Wars movies to use a Lightsaber effect.

I sadly lost the DF2 Disks to scratches, so I’ll definately be buying it when it comes to Steam.

What? No it wasn’t. Dark Forces did not come with the “Jedi Knight” brand, it was Star Wars: Dark Forces. It might now fall under some sort of “Jedi Knight” umbrella, but it sure as hell wasn’t released like that.

    “The Steam bundle, yes”.
