The ReSTART clinic in Seattle claims to be “the first residential treatment centre for Internet addiction” in the US, and are offering WoW addicts a 45-day course where patients are weened off World of Warcraft cold turkey. All for the low, low price of $US14,000.
Seriously, $US14,000? I know the American medical system is a joke, but I didn’t think it was that funny.

It’s easy. Click that ‘cancel subscription’ button, delete all characters and uninstall the game. Problem solved. I’ll happily take $14k to do that for you if it’s too hard!

There’s a documentary “Second Skin” that looks at the lives of WOW/EQ2 players and their addiction, recently came out on DVD. I’m not a player myself and after watching it I’m stay that way.

They have something similar in China. Not that much though. Camps to get people off the computer.
Of course it’s had quite a lot of attention given the death of one kid and another kid beaten up.
But yes, quite ridiculous. $US14k? Think of what you could do with that kind of money?
Report PermalinkIn fact, you could send someone to college for at least a year with that kind of money…45-day course?

Imagine how many items, accounts and in-game gold you could get for $14k instead… wait, I might have missed the point of the clinic.
