Marvel VS. Capcom 2 Gets A Tournament Edition FightStick
The Marvel VS Capcom 2 Arcade Fightstick: Tournament Edition will make you forget all about those silly limited-edition PAX and Comic-Con Street Fighter IV sticks you missed out on.
Sure, the Comic-Con stick was stylish and the PAX Femme Fatale controller was pretty, but neither were quite as sexy as the Marvel VS. Capcom 2 model Mad Catz is rolling out for Capcom later this fall. It’s the same Tournament Edition stick that fighter fans have been fighting over and on since they were released with Street Fighter IV, festooned with never-before-seen Marvel VS. Capcom 2 artwork, making it the perfect accessory for both comic book fans as well.
“Capcom has demonstrated that by working in close collaboration with Mad Catz, we are able to produce fighting controllers which deliver the level of performance and authenticity that our fans demand,” said Christian Svensson, vice president business development & strategic planning at Capcom Entertainment, Inc. “We’re delighted to further our relationship and continue the evolution of this range to encapsulate the Marvel VS Capcom franchise and look forward to the fans reaction upon release.”
I’ve been holding out on picking up a stick despite being present at both shows and watching people constantly walking away from the Capcom booth with giant bags filled with plastic fighting goodness. Perhaps I foresaw this. Perhaps I am simply a fortunate procrastinator. Either way, look for the Marvel VS. Capcom 2 sticks to hit GameStop stores and both Capcom and Mad Catz’s online stores later this fall.

@Trygle12 is back! Still has trouble reading his posts. : (: If it really is just a rebadged SF4 TE stick it should be Sanwa.
@Salen: We have too much here in SD.
The Fry's bought an entire warehouse full of them.
I just don't have the cash :(.
If this is - as it seems to be - a Tournament Edition SF4 stick with a new look, I'll probably pick this one up at some point. If the price isn't higher, that is.
@Trowble (XBL/PSN): Opposite here.
You can buy a "bat" handle that you can just screw on top of the stick.
Should play similar to how you liked it.
Also try HAPP if you like those stiff-sticks.
I just fixed some contact issues with my custom stick. I could never use the D button precisely on Blazblue ( as Rachel this was devastating because I couldn't use her wind effectively) so I opened it up and lo-and-behold I had a faulty contact wire on the trigger.
Saved me the cash on buying/making a new stick. I always prefer Seimitsu for faster paced games, though.
Does this stick have Seimitsu or Sanwa?
@Kayonesoft: Basically, MadCatz went from making budget stuff that was shit because it was budget stuff, to making a stick out of high-quality parts.
i bought one of these madcats Sf4 sticks for ps3 after hunting it down for months, for 70 euros. but replaced it with a 20 euro sanwa stick and now i cant believe they shipped these sticks WITHOUT those.. the default stick was pure crap. replaced the buttons now too with sanwa parts and i got a stick that beats the crap out of the TE edition for under 100 euro..i think. never tried the TE :D
alienator303
@Ueziel: I'm aware of that, but many of the top players who use Sanwa/Seimitsu sticks when they play SF4 switch to Happ when playing MvC2, Justin Wong being one example.
milford
While they maybe right that Mad Catz can produce fighting sticks that deliver performance and authenticity, it would be nice if they would also produce more of them in a timely fashion. It only took them 3 months after SF4 to manufacture enough fighting pads, and the fight sticks were near impossible to find.
So yeah, making the sticks more plentiful would be my suggestion. Performance doesn't mean a thing if I can't buy one.
@shichi: Yeah it's $160. It looks like you're basically paying a $30 art premium, which really isn't all that bad. And technically it's only $10 since the TE still has a $150 MSRP.
I'm tired of the ball/joystick arcade controllers.
Whatever happened to the arcade stick with a handle? To me, those are ideal for fighting games.
Trowble (XBL/PSN)
I can not wait to pick this up!
I recently bought this on the ps store after finally giving in and retiring my dc version (which i loved, being 14 and searching in nearly 20 game stores from MD to NJ with my brother and finally finding a copy in a f.y.e of all places.).
When i worked in wildwood, NJ (which is a boardwalk and stuff) i worked in an arcade, when we got the MvsC2 machine in, i remember playing the came every single day, before, during, and after work. We would hold tournaments with our co workers after we closed up (around 3 am lol) and just have a blast.
Classic combo: Cyclops, Iron Man, And cable...Absolute domination!
Where's MarkMan when you need him? Are all of the parts identical to the SFIV TE sticks? If so, just get a digital copy of the art and a few new buttons/balltop... :p
@Chrystolis: Yeah the Tournment sticks are holding up well. Mine has survived fairly regular use and several train rides to NYC. Still plays like day 1.
I read GameStop has been taking preorders for this $160 stick. Personally I'd rather get the TE Fightstick on Amazon for $130 to save money.
@milford: As far as arcade parts go, Happ is one of the lowest. They're the generic parts arcades order for their stuff.
@milford: Not necessarily, no. Many of the multi-game pros use Sanwa/Seimitsu.
I've never been a big fan of Madcatz, but that arcade stick looks nice.
How much?
@darthmole12: This looks like a SF4 TE stick rebranded with MvC2 art. Those sticks were amazing...
To hell with that pansy stick!
Real men play using car sticks.
I have one for PS2. Works well except usually feels like it needs to be attached to a sturdy table first. It's hard to pull out moves on the couch.
Snappywave: Subtitle option for the Deaf please
The stick is in Gamestop's system for pre-order already, although as of yesterday it was only the PS3 version.
Don't all the pro MvC2 players use sticks with Happ parts?
milford
Sweet! I've been holding off too. Procrastination ftw!
Sweet, another Mad Catz stick that will break after light usage for one week.
darthmole12
@Mr_Mortician:
That's the SE, not the TE which this stick is based upon.
@darthmole12: Not the tournament edition. Mine kicks ass.
Eulatos
@Salen:
Not hard to find here either, but then agian, where i am from is pretty low on fighter fans :(
@Snappywave: Subtitle option for the Deaf please: I don't think they make TE sticks for PS2.
Narishma
@Omnimon:
But for MVC2 everyone uses Happ.
jkh13
"Capcom has demonstrated that by working in close collaboration with Mad Catz, we are able to produce fighting controllers which . . . after months of trying to find one will just end up breaking within the first 3 weeks and are better off being fixed by the end user with some parts ordered online."
holy shit that stick is gorgeous.
fuck the haters.
braincadet
Okay, I want this. COME ON BIRTHDAY.
Should've been Happ parts.
That stick is hideous. The old anime mvc2 style artwork is better.
Way back in the day, when I was happily playing Golgo 13 on my NES, if someone had told me there would come a day when I paid four times as much four the controller than the actually game itself, I would have chuckled mightily and punched them in the yarbols. Looks like I owe that imaginary person an apology.
@Salen: I'd be glad to, if you pay for them :P.
@darthmole12: Way to make baseless claims with the intent to sound edgy!
I beat the shit out of my TE stick, and it's working perfectly fine after all these months.
wtf_G
@milford: Yes, all the top MvC2 players use Happ sticks.
Read: MvC2.
For basically any other fighting game, Sanwa is preferred.
wtf_G
@Janxer: Well, Madcatz just assembles the parts from Japan. They don't make any of the buttons or joysticks :P
wtf_G
@Trowble (XBL/PSN): You can buy a bat top for like $2.50 :P
wtf_G
No offense to whoever did the new artwork, but Bengus art would've been incredible.
@Trygle12 is back! Still has trouble reading his posts. : (: Send them to Florida please. Gamers are starving for fight sticks here.
@Sir-Lucius has no pictchar!: Ah.
I'll stick with the one I have then.
It's working swell for BlazBlue.
SO MANY UNINTENTIONAL PUNS.
@R0YB0T: Well, you're just proving everyone's point, that it IS baseless because this is the TE stick, and not likely to break after light usage for a week.
BTW ya'll, the art top is similar to those old Marvel comics chromium trading cards with the metallic finish. Looks really snazzy.
@Omnimon:
MarkMan is here.
The parts are the same except the color (obviously)... but the button layout is different and caters to the default layout of MVC2 for both consoles.
If we had more time prior to the release of the game, you know damn well we'd try to make a HAPP/iL version of the stick. Just have some wishful thinking for future products though ;)
@wtf_G: That's only because MvC2 requires a ton of mashing and people generally beat the piss out of their sticks, so they just use cheap happ buttons.
Mpalm_
@alienator303: Beats the crap out of ? You mean, is the same thing as.
-_-
wtf_G
@wtf_G: I didn't even know those things existed, thanks!
Trowble (XBL/PSN)
@Mpalm_: Because MvC2 is best played with Happ components.
wtf_G
@wtf_G: Baseless? Have you not heard of Madcatz before? They made one decent expensive product, the TE stick, and hundreds of worthless junk for years including the SFIV Figthpads and SE sticks and his comment is baseless?
You are delusional.
R0YB0T
@roq: Why cheapen such a good stick with Happ's garbage?
Mpalm_
@Omnimon: The same as original TE. Just different artwork and colors for teh sanwa parts.
I just wish they would make TEs using the astrocity layout instead of the viewlix layout. Astrocity is much more confortable, IMO.
Lider
@Mr_Mortician: Um, these things are made with top of the line japanese sanwa parts, don't speak of things which you know nothing about.
Mpalm_
@Janxer: Oh, they still make a shitty one, the SE FightSticks are crap until you gut them and put your own parts in them.
@MarkMan: Any chance at an SE PSD template of the new top design?
@Mpalm_: No, it's because Happ buttons are studier than Japanese ones.
@alienator303:
It's the same thing as the TE edition. But you got it for cheaper though, so that's a plus.
Marvel Stick + Japanese parts = Fail and dumb.
For the love of God, where's my cheap HAPP stick?
@Narishma: I'm sorry, it's not called TE but it's similar.
[t2.gstatic.com]
Snappywave: Subtitle option for the Deaf please
@darthmole12: GOD! I just love the sarcasm in this place! It never gets old /Sarcasm.
new_age_soldier
@Mpalm_: Tell that to the new Sanwa buttons I had to order.
This was the one I was really waiting for, but then it seemed that this fightstick fell by the wayside and now I'm left with just a simple SFIV stick with that ugly red and black!
Jonathan Chang
@epy0nkaru: the even funnier thing is when you have all these shoryuken elitist pricks that think because they have SANWA parts in their ugly custom stick, that somehow makes them superior players. then they get beatdown by somebody using an X-Arcade or Mad Catz stick and start blaming the poorly balanced gameplay as the reason why.
Bubbleman!
@OGHowie: SF4 doesn't bear on buttons like MvC2 does.
@Salen: If you have internet, you can get a FightStick. Go to newegg or Amazon.
mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta
@BubbleF**kingBuddy:
Haven't had any problems with my TE stick so far and I've played SF4 A LOT.
bad idea bad idea bad idea. SANWA parts were never made for the fervent behaviour associated with marvel. if most people play marvel as badly as they play street fighter IV then these sticks will break at least 3 times faster, like a char's custom
epy0nkaru
@Mpalm_: It's Mad Catz. If anyone can make high quality parts into something shitty that will break in two minutes, it's Mad Catz.
jasu78
@BubbleF**kingBuddy:
HEAR HEAR. I support this. IF YOU'RE HAPP-Y and you know it clap your hands!
The Swearing Gramps
@Bubbleman!:
But MvC2 DOES have poorly balanced gameplay. The original one was far more balanced.
The Swearing Gramps
@kainzero:
His thumb must be manly as fuck. The DC controller easily bruises and maims you with continued 2d play.
The Swearing Gramps
What the hell are madcatz doing? A Sanwa stick for a game where the majority of people use Happ? What the fuck? Seriously. Change the shit and gimme a Happ stick otherwise NO BUY. Most MvC fans use Happ.
The Swearing Gramps
@milford: People use whatever they're most comfortable with; for some people that’s a HAPP stick, for others a Sanwa stick, and for me a pad because I’m terrible with a stick. There’s plenty to be said about the pluses of quality components, but they aren’t a replacement for one’s skill in and understanding of a game.
The Japanese invented half the tricks in Marvel and I've had no problems doing fast fly combos.
Top players play on Happ/iL because that's what they learned on in the arcade, but there's no reason why you can't learn on a Sanwa.
One top player (fanatiq) plays on a DC controller, so no excuses
@LinetteLaodamas: There are some quite distinguishable features between the two such as the standard HRAP3 having dedicated L3+R3 buttons, PS2 game support on the PS3 (thanks to a previous firmware patch), and the fully splayed button layout.
On the other hand the TE Fightstick has the USB cable storage compartment (very useful for transportation), Sanwa joystick AND buttons, and the semi-splayed button layout (arcade-perfect of the Viewlix machines). Hopefully a patch is released sometime in the near future for PS2 game support.
Personally I think the build quality (plastics) of the HRAP3 is better than the TE Fightstick, but the TE Fightstick is easier to modify.
Amazon is releasing the HRAP3 SA which features the HRAP3 fully decked out in white Sanwa parts on Oct 19 for $120. When compared to the $130 TE Fightstick (Amazon price) you may find yourself in a tough situation deciding between the two.
@The Swearing Gramps: What was that?
mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta
@LinetteLaodamas: Actually, a lot of Japanese players are using the TE stick now. Nobody ever thought that MadCatz would the company to actually put enough pressure on HORI to make them step up their game. HORI, who has largely neglected the American market, is now releasing some of their hard-to-find premium sticks in America in response to the the sleek and easy-to-mod FightStick.
To wit; yes. MadCatz's sticks are pretty much up to par with HORI's sticks. Past some minor differences, it all depends on your preference.
mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta
I love all the "MvC2 + Sanwa = Fail" comments. Obviously this stick only works with MvC2, amirite? I suppose all the custom sticks out there with various anime art were made to WATCH anime, no?
At any rate, kudos to Capcom and Mad Catz. They made an extremely amazing stick, and I'm glad they've continued to produce this amazing product.
Antonio Javier
@Mpalm_:
God you're unamerican. Hating Happ? Are you a weaboo? Happ is better then Sanwa/Seimetsu when it comes to the MvC series for the sheer fact that the stick and buttons can take a beating and still play. Plus that small gate isn't going to help shit when it comes to the insane combos of MvC2. You need a full 360 movement for this. Which Sanwa does NOT provide with their square gate.
The Swearing Gramps
What I'd like to know is, are the Mad Cat'z fightsticks up to par with Hori's yet?
LinetteLaodamas
@The Swearing Gramps: No, it wasn't. At all. Most people just picked War Machine with Psylocke or Colossus as an assist.
As a matter of fact, no VS game was ever well balanced. XMvSF and TvC are a straight up lol-mess, and MSHvSF has more shenanigans than a Three Stooges short.
@LinetteLaodamas: The MadCatz TE (not the SE) stick is the best stick you can buy out of the box bar none.
Some people will worry about games like MvC 2 where rapid button presses are used more often, but for SC, Tekken, SF, etc., you can't beat it IMO.
@shichi: Difficult choice indeed, especially considering that the HRAP 3 SA and the EX SE are both built with quick disconnects.
mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta
@Zorantor: Its for PS3 and Xbox 360 which has 8 buttons + start select/back a d-pad and 2 sticks. Obviously they gonna include all buttons, my friend uses the last 2 buttons for specials in SF4 for example. I only use 6 buttons but still some people like them.
Mundus
Will this stick actually be like the MVC2 arcade stick or will it just be a SF4 tournament stick with another picture? The reason i ask is because MVC2 in the Arcade does not have a Sanwa stick which the SF4 stick does.
Mundus
Wait, maybe I'm missing something...
2 punch + 2 kick + 2 assist = 6 commands, but this stick has eight buttons.
I enjoy fighters well enough, but I'm not so into them that I buy a stick just to play. So, who can tell me what the extra two buttons are for?
Damn... I have the ComicCon orange stick and suddenly it doesn't feel very special anymore. I wonder how many more special designs we can expect...
gti443
the art on this stick is a major failure, IMO. it is obviously aimed at the comics fan instead of the MvC2 fan. i like comics, too- but that's what the books are for. i want authentic art and illustrations from Capcom on this stick. this game had so much fantastic artwork that it's a real shame that none of it made it onto the final design of this stick.
I hate madcatz! Their crap always fails in under 6 months. This has been the case since the N64 days! Why is capcom with them?! I bought 2 fightpads hoping since capcom was with them they must have changed...both failed in the 4 month-6 month range. They felt great when they worked, but they always die!!!!
@The Swearing Gramps: Unamerican because i'm not a fan of happ? God, you're an idiot.
Mpalm_
@joshfigueroa: Madcatz' gamepads have been pretty lousy, but I hear things have changed since they teamed up with Hori to manufacture these fight sticks, mainly because Hori produces the majority of the parts.
Yeah, I remember buying 3 controllers for the first Xbox and they were all Madcatz and guess what? They all failed because the control sticks broke. From then on I stopped buying Madcatz
@Mundus: SF4 TE stick with new picture. A lot of people were hoping for a solid HAPP stick.
jinsaotomex4
its the SFIV TE stick with different colors and picture. I will be buying one for sure. I absolutly love my TE stick and have put over 200 hrs of use on it and it still works like brand new. Madcatz has gained my trust, but only for the TE sticks lol.
HA-TheJoker-HA
@aang001: QFT
string_theory
@Muckamuck: Hori? No. They're all Madcatz, but the buttons and stick on the TE are Sanwas, the PBC and everything else is still Madcatz.
Looks good. If I were to get a second TE stick, I'd go for this one or the Comic-con one due to not feeling like I'd have to change the art right away.
