Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, Silent Hill: Konami Talks Games

Wow, I'm looking forward to almost every game on that list:

-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PS3)
-Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)
-Tower of Shadow (Wii)
-Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)
-Metal Gear Solid: Rising (PS3)

@Archaotic: That's really my problem with it. On the whole it was a great game but there were just too many damn throwbacks and it was trying too hard to be 'another' Suikoden II. Other than that, fantastic game.

Suikoden 3 is my overall favorite of the series.

@Xuchilbara: How could you possibly think SH3 was poor? The story was inferior to SH2, but it was superior in every other way. Graphics, acting, gameplay... And thos crazy hard mode puzzles... What other game has puzzles that require you to be intimately familiar with the works of Shakespeare?

Hundreds of hours? Is that really necessary! I just beat MGS4. It took me over 30 hours. I got a badge for taking sooo long. If this is any longer I won't ever finish it. Ok, I will, but it'll eat up a lot of my free time.

Then again, half that time will probably be used in cut scenes.

That was awful. Woody Allen as Harry Mason? Why did they start the game at night as opposed to broad daylight...which I thought was scarier. No FOG = AUTO FAIL!!!

I guess I am an action person, I need fights. Controller gimmicks and talking remotes just are not a substitute for me.

This game is going to tank harder than Mad World.

@Rompehamster: I like the MGS series, alot, but at some point it's going to get stale. It'll be a sad day when that happens, I think it might already be happening with those who aren't fans..... peacewalker i am interested in though.

Pop'n Rhythm? Ugh. Great idea there Konami. Let's ignore the multiple arcade versions that have yet to see home release (including a new upcoming version!) and instead release not just Beat'n'Groovy, one of the worst abominations ever in terms of both bastardizing a fantastic music game but also just in terms of everything, but now they're going ahead with the other bastardization of the series.

Konami. Just release a new real Pop'n Music. Just do it. Pop'n Music is not Sonic. You don't need to try to reinvent anything.

@grantanamo: Huh? Rising isn't mentioned in this article that I can find, He talks a bit about peace walker though.

Kojima is working on peace walker but not Rising. He even goes so far as to say Peace Walker is the next official game (implying rising to be nothing more then a spin off)

Everytime I read the name shattered memories I cant help but think how appropriate it is. This minigame fest will truely shatter those memories I used to cherish...

@MaximusDM: I know, I want to know too. My theory is that the reason we haven't heard anything from IGA and company is because they're hard at work on that very game.

By turning Lords of Shadow into an official Castlevania title, they are able to keep the brand pumped up while giving IGA's team extra time to polish their first current-gen game.

Or so I want to believe.

Kojima is a very talented guy, and metal gear is a great franchise.The main reason why its not being considered "milked" is because the ever developing story and the visionary execution in which kojima presents his games. Its amazing how hes able to capture the true feeling of war and incorperate it it into a story filled with characters that you end up caring for a lot. I hope to see many more Metal Gears in the future as well. I also wouldn't mind seeing him try something new if eventually he decided to go back to MGS afterward.

@Superlocke: My opinion is just that...it is NOT fact. You can play and like whatever you like.

I just think that a company giving it's best content to others is a huge risk. Even bigger risk is a Japanese developer giving it to a non-Japanese developer.

If it was like...Bioware or Quantic Dream they were giving these properties to, then I would feel better.

I feel and I fear these titles are going to be a disaster with low scores all around. I hope I am wrong!

@AlucardsQuest: No it wasn't, Devil may cry was originally going to be RE4. Onimusha was basically a faster paced RE in feudal Japan.

It cracks me up how over the top Kojima is getting with regards to MGS:R. It's not what he IS saying but what he ISN'T saying. This is me a little worried considering I love MGS and would rather have a great game on both consoles than a shitty version on both consoles. Kojima really does love Sony, apparently.

@Shinta: This. It was highly frustrating and buggy, but it certainly wasn't bad. It also had one of the coolest looking bosses in SH history (Scarlet).

@abcFRAG: Oooooooh, that would be delicious. I'm not sure how much of the work the Kojima staff are doing since they apparently plan to oversee the developers themselves.

@Yossarian: Totally true, but what the fanboys are gonna say is "Well MGS isn't out every year!".

@Xuchilbara: I loved the story of 4, the settings in 3, and homecoming was an above average horror game, but not up to par to be SH. Origins was better than I thought it would be and had some good and bad moments.
Still if the quality is up to at least Homecoming, I'd probably get it. I'm more into things like Cryostasis and Penumbra these days. That's where the real psych horror is for me.
The remake of 1 looks sort of unappealing art wise so far.

@Thriceborn: It takes a special kind of badass to perform iaijutsu style attacks with a straight-edged blade. Georg Prime is that kind of badass.

I like Suikoden V a lot as well. It felt like a much more "complete" Suikoden game than 3 or 4 did, even if it might have tried a bit too hard to be overly nostalgic.

@Lackshmana: Have to disagree there. V remains my second favorite with plenty of very cool moments. Loved most of the NPCs, loved the story, loved the drama...

I do think a little more originality would be cool however (do we really need a great strategist, a great doctor, a great chef...in every game?

Still Georg and Victor remain my favorite Suikoden NPCs...

@d1nonlyclo: In an interview in a magazine that just came out last week, the series' creator said he'd like to work on the games again, and if Konami asked him he'd go back without a second thought.

@bangbangblah: Suikoden 3 for the PS2 was their best performing game in the series, both critically and in terms of sales.

However, the creator of the series left towards the end of that game and we got an unrelated prequel in 4, and an unmitigated bomb in 5.

It also didn't help that 5 was terribly designed, badly written, horribly presented, and did nothing but ape the first 2 games without any of their quality. Its Konami's own fault for trying to appeal to a vocal internet minority rather than actually trying to make a solid game.

Silent Hill is officially dead. Castlevania in 3D has been dead, and will now be a defiled corpse with a non Japanese developer.

My only hope is Suikoden...but knowing Konami now, they will proabably let Tetsuya Nomura do the character designs, in which case I am done with Konami.

@Archaotic: Ah, those were the good ol' days. However, in my opinion, no Suikoden after Suikoden II came close.

@Archaotic: Also the original creator of the Suikoden franchise left after III so anything that was being worked out to connect all of the games is probably lost.

@bangbangblah: Suikoden did alright on PS2. Its strongest days were on the PS1, though. Suikoden IV really hurt the franchise, though the main nail in the coffin was that Suikoden V and Kingdom Hearts 2 hit the States within a WEEK of each other.

Now, they've fucked the series over hardcore with that travesty of a DS game. They pissed off a lot of the fans with it, and the game didn't even sell more than the lower-yielding PS2 entries, making the sacrifice of the old material and the old fanbase ENTIRELY pointless.

@Archaotic: I'm not sure I even want a new Suikoden after the DS incarnation. /:

@Archaotic: Yeah, it really is a shame that they are. Did Suikoden do well on the PS2? I remember enjoying the games they put out, but it didn't seem like they got the attention of the PS1 games.

Maybe it's just not making money anymore. Although, you'd think the success of Suikoden on PS1 would be some indication that there is interest.
