@lephunk: Spartans were badass warriors. Ninjas lived on stealth. If the Spartan saw the Ninja and fought him heads up, he'd kick the ninja's ass. The ninja would try to kill the spartan without being detected.

i watched an episode of Deadliest Warriors yesterday and they put a Ninja against a Spartan Soldier...

they gave Spartan the win over the ninja...

i don't know what to think of that...

@Hey_Blinkon: It has nothing to do with the new commenting system. It takes a while for your account to get approved, we had to go through the approval process too.
In some of my posts I expressed my confusion, especially since I couldn't even see what I wrote after pressing the submit button. This might have changed with the new system... I can see unapproved posts, but I don't know if they can see their own.

Wow, that's in poor taste, not to mention insulting to Americans. Before I get attacked. No I'm not part of any political party. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom in America. We hold it dear to our hearts. What is this ad trying to say by slicing the Statue of Liberty?

It's like if we made an ad for Halo and at the end we nuked Mt. Fuji. Okay, maybe nuke was a poor choice of words, but you know what I'm trying to say. It was such a random ending to just destroy the statue of liberty. It's also confusing, because isn't it supposed to be the hero of the game? Why would he commit a terrorist attack on America?

First the Trade Centers and then the Statue of Liberty. Is no New York building safe from these damn ninjas?!

@Karlott: Actually the guy who was one of the "Ninja experts" was my buddy Mike.

However, having watched the episode that lephunk is talking about, I can attest to the win by the Spartan to be a little off. Once he received the black egg to the eyes, it would have been over. No matter how much of a bad ass you are, after getting glass and eye irritants in your eyes you're not getting your vision back for a while. The ninja would have moved in for the kill then.

Also, the start of the fight between the Spartan and Ninja was off as well because the Ninja was concealed. Instead of going for a strike, he would have used his poison blow dart and then that would have been the end of it. Ninja don't start head on fights.

But the close quarters stuff was pretty accurate. The ninja would basically become nothing if that was the case. Either way, while the show was a bit unfair to the ninja it was still kind of cool to see them square off.

Cloverfield's advertisement had the Statue of Liberty's head ripped off. It's original viral advertisements have the Statue of Liberty's decapitated head landing in Manhattan. The original ad didn't even reference the movie.

A decapitated Statue of Liberty is also featured in Escape from New York and in Superman II, superman gets knocked into the Statue of Liberty by General Zod destroying it.

... and then there's the White House famously being blown up in Independence Day.

On a side note, it's somewhat amusing what a difference 8 years can make... given that MGS2 received cuts to eliminate scenes of Arsenal Gear knocking over the Statue of Liberty (later to be seen standing on Ellis Island) and crushing its way through a good chunk of Manhattan.
