Rapala: We Fish Makes Fishing “Wacky”
If you love fishing video games but felt that there just wasn’t enough wackiness involved, then Activision’s Rapala: We Fish might just catch your eye with its family-fun hook.
Due out September 29 for the Nintendo Wii, Activision is touting Rapala: We Fish as the “first fishing title developed specifically for Wii”, injecting just the sort of over-the-top wacky humor that is completely absent from real fishing. Play as one of five characters or use your Mii to participate in 24 tournament events in eight locations around the world, with more than 50 “wacky” species of fish to catch, each with their own facial expressions and personalities.
That’s slightly terrifying, actually.
Along with fishing, We Fish also includes a boat racing game, in which players try to knock their opponents’ catches off deck as they race towards safe harbour, which is another exciting element completely absent from real fishing.
“We love Activision’s fresh, colorful approach to Rapala: We Fish,” said Kelly Brockpahler, Rapala. “It doesn’t matter if you are a fisherman in real life, this game lets players of all ages and abilities have a ‘laugh out loud’ good time!”

As good as Wii controls would make a fishing game, I don't want kiddie looking fishies or ancient technology rendering my waters and catches. I'd kill for a great, realistic, and fun current gen fishing game on 360/PS3. Hopefully once Natal and the wand are out, some developer will get to work on doing just that. I grew to enjoy the genre on Dreamcast, but I've yet to see any release since that clearly tells me, "I'm new and better than what you've played before."

@ingenious fishing rod not long ago that used the nunchuk inside the reel. This doesn't look quite as sharp, but I'm sure it's far less likely to destroy your analog stick as the other rod would.

Speaking of "wacky fishing", does anyone remember that crazy, cel-shaded Japanese fishing game for the PS2 about 5 or so years back? I can't remember it for the life of me, but it was incredibly bizarre and you had these psuedo-boss battles while reeling the fish in.
It's back when OPM was putting all those oddball Japanese games on their demo disk. I dunno why, but hearing about crazy fishing games reminded me of that.

@WhiteMage: I recommend the DS one it's well done the first Gameboy one was so good, A lot of those Japanese rpg hybrid games, the best ones are nearly only on the portable systems.

@Americo: I think it all looks slightly fishy. They try to lure us in with these gimmicky controllers then worm out of making a good game. It'll probably have a boat load of issues but they'll still make a nice net profit.

That controller could be a masterpiece in peripherals. Or it could suck, like I'm afraid it will (as if I would even play this ^_^).
I bet the high-cycle fatigue on the reel attachment is going to snap that baby in half within a few weeks of solid use.
