@Befitzero: It's the best SRPG since Final Fantasy Tactics, and probably my most replayed RPG since Chrono Trigger. I think you'll love it if you even mildly like Advance Wars.

Oh Dam I forgot about this game! Now that I finally got a Ps3 I need to get this game asap!

Just being curious how dose this game stack up to other games of this type? Is it as good as advance wars (DS Version)?

I just think it sucks ass that these types of game are far and few betweeen.

@StrategyMonk: Yeah, go buy a PS3 for Valky... and watch as Sony directs you to purchase their stupid PSPs and PS2s, because that's where they apparently will be cramming any sequels to it. Oh, and the PS3 slim isn't backwards compatible, nor can it play PSP games, or properly support multiplayer as well as 360. I hate Sony. As soon as they find something good, they crap all over it. My PS3 exists as a way to play VC, MGS4 (not the horrible online tragedy that was included with it) and as a reminder as to why I love my 360.

PSP can't do this IP justice. Neither, really, did the UI on the PS3 original version. This is an awesome IP that I hope will one day get to realize its full potential. Unfortunately, tactics games, specifically awesome tactics games I love and still have the PS1 version of, often get the short end of the stick when it comes to high end graphics, multiplayer, and content. Final Fantasy Tactics, to me, was infinitely more interesting than any other FF game, (save maybe IV) but somehow, its sequels have been confined to GBA and PSP remerches and DS games that don't have the same level of originality. Valkyria Chronicles, OF COURSE, the awesome, shiny new successor, looks like it's about to meet the same shitty fate. PLEASE put a VC sequel on PS3 (or xbox).

Game was so much fun....was about 60% through and my PS3 HD took a dive and I lost my save game.

Been meaning to start again but some of those early missions were a brutally boring.

...But really, I'm excited. Can't wait for another Valkyria Chronicles on the PlayStation3, not that I'm not also excited about the PlayStation Portable one. Just that I don't have a PlayStation Portable.

To get past the mission you're stuck on, I moved anti-tank troops into position directly behind the two tanks that appear, BEFORE they actually appear. Then I took the camp, they popped up, bam, dead.

@excel_excel: I sorta hope you're wrong... I bought the game recently... and now put in more than 30 hours into the game... I don't think I have it in me to replay all that for trophies! The game is great... but time consuming, don't think I can ever replay it.

T-minus 15 days until the greatest moment in video game history happens...

@Shinta: What I'd like to see a story centered on a basically the Federation's counterpart to Squad 7. Since Gallia was only on front in a massive continent wide war and the Federation was already at war with the Empire before Gallia was invaded. Though more a DLC thing, I'd like to see a small campaign following Faldio's Squad 1.

I wonder if they're going to tie in Alicia and Selvaria with that Valkyrur looking girl in VC2. The anime hints that Selvaria and Alicia might have been at the same orphanage at one point (she has a flash back and sees Alicia as a child before Valkyrur mode Alicia kicks her ass), maybe that girl was there too.

@DigitalHero: Funny, my local Best Buy still have some in stock the last time I looked and that was sometime last week.
I'm pretty sure it's still there too, if you stop at best buy and get one of the workers to see if there's stock in MN anywhere and ask to see if they can ship it to your store if there is one.

I'm guessing they will announce a proper console sequel. Because I love to be disappointed.

@Uzuki: I didn't think the US dub was bad on the game so if they do get the licensing for the anime with the original casts from the game I'd buy it.... on bluray.

I watched some of the anime already but I didn't watch any further then where I'm currently at on my game. Although I'm stuck on the game, the anime actually made it a incentive for me to progress further on the game so I can watch the next episode.

@Ca$h (aka cold hard): I was also put off by the demo but after I keep hearing countless fan reviews I ended up buying it and haven't regretted it since, unlike most hyped up reviews in magazines.

I still haven't beat it though, stuck on the level where Alicia came back to the battlefield after she was ****.

The only gripe I had with the game was that to get the best grade you had to capture the enemies fort with the fewest turns and the fact that you can't skip the ORDER(S) animation.

@kainzero: I know what you mean, but really there is a ton they could do with the world. For example, a few ideas I've had:

POSSIBLE SPOILERS - STOP

-Prequel, knowledge of the Valkyrer was obviously known at some point because they genetically modified Selvaria. Also, the first Europan war, get to play as Largo, Verrot, Welks' dad, the old guy in the cemetery.

-Super prequel, the ancient battle of the Darcsen against the Valkyrer.

-Sequel exploring other areas of combat in the same era. Includes submarines, battleships, and airplane commanders. Paratroopers, etc.

@Placentasaurus: I don't even think I'd appreciate a spinoff of VC. I love the engine but the story concluded itself perfectly and I don't think you could really do anything with the world. Just make a new game with the strategy engine, new setting, new characters, new everything.

@Spedfrom: Just so you know, the game basically has it's own internal trophy system built into the game. The only thing is that no one else can see them. There are 20 war medals to earn though.

@excel_excel: What I;m not happy about this game is that it has the number 2 after it. Superficial, I know, but I think it should be a spinoff. Real, proper sequels should not be on inferior hardware.
What annoys me about Okami DS is that the DS will not bee able to do justice to the watercolor feel of the original beyond some pixelated textures. That look was Okami's biggest achievement (without that, it would have merely been an okay Zelda clone with good music and a neat setting), so it just won't feel right without it. And we all know how orgasmic a PS3 Okami would look.

I thought that I had to do that to get the top rank, but when I played through the game from scratch (no NG+) I'd taken out all the guns on the side with something like three turns to spare. It's not like I somehow picked up a secret strat to aiming the reticule, so it can be safely done within the constraints.

Besides, remove the lancers and don't get in the way of the Batomys and the Edelweiss is nigh invincible that mission. Don't let the scary cutscene of the tank blowing up fool you, she doesn't use that til a later map!

I hope that's not a begrudged statement from Sega, seeing that VC1 didn't do so well in the US. Sega might be indicating something like: "You didn't buy part 1, so you're not getting part 2." That would be a shame.

I pretty much had to do that when going for S rank. If I fucked a turn up there was just no recovery.

Chapter 7 was easily my most hated chapter in the game. The low accuracy of my lancers drove me mad on countless playthroughs. If you keep Largo and Jann together though, they tend to enhance each other. Jann will get extra ammo and power boosts.

But Selvaria is a non-issue. You can use the tank to trap her in a ditch. Once you do that, you can hide your lancers behind the enemy tank and take it out almost at leisure.

I actually never used orders for the first half or so of the game.

@Omnimon: Use the tank to destroy the radiator on the far side and take out all the guns on the other. Then have a unit climb up the ladders and lob a grenade in the exposed radiator vent. Alternatively you could beat the shit out of all vents so that you only need to get one last hit on the remaining radiator when shit hits the fan.

Don't feel the need to deploy units at the start apart from the sergeants and maybe a sniper and an engineer. A couple of shocktroopers or scouts crouched in your main base will be all the defense you need against anyone who goes for it. Pull back units when the reinforcements come so that you don't lose anyone.

This is one of the best maps in the game for learning to play; the tank is useful, engingeers are great, troopers help more than scouts but scouts do a great job of getting early hits. Everything just meshes well in a way that beats the crap out of slap orders on X and let 'er rip that missions can devolve to later (gross exaggeration, it's still a brilliant game after this point).

And if you're really fretting, just save and reload every time before firing with the tank or a lancer, cos I know they have terrible accuracy at the mo.

I don't have a psp, so I'm mostly likely skipping this. Maybe.

I don't get why theres so much bitching for sequels on handhelds of home console games that don't too well. Just because theres a handheld version doesn't there won't be a home console sequel. At least its not as bad as the bitching for the Okami DS game.

@Omnimon: I remember having to grind a bit to get my characters up to snuff for that mission. IIRC it's one of, if not the hardest mission in the game. Getting an S-rank on that one took forever and a half.

It means that now that they've done a cameo, Vyse, Fina and Aika are getting a proper sequel.

@Omnimon: Ah yeah, I remember now. I can't remember what I did to beat it. I think I just used Welks to blow the treads and then go in from the sides with my Lancers using the Defense Boost order, then just concentrating the fire. Give that a go.

@marklip: To be fair, I don't pay attention that much, haha. But I've been getting into it all over again, so hopefully will be completing it soon >.

@Omnimon: You don't have to take out any of the guns, defense boost, then have them run up. Also remember to have them hop from camp to camp to speed up movement.

The best news would that VC2 is being developed on both the PS3 and the PSP. The PSP is great and all, but the game is certain to lose some of it's pretty.

Maybe they are pulling an Assassins Creed type move; with the PSP game being the middle story between the full-on, true sequel.

@ray89: Chapter 7 was the giant tank. I've gotten to the final 'stage' of that fight a couple of times, but each time I end up taking it. Hands down, at level 7, it's difficult for my lancers to take out the guns and the batteries quickly.

@Omnimon: Wow, you guys must suck at the game then. I got through the game without any of my squad members dying.

@Omnimon: Actually, while you could be forgiven for failing it a few times, it isn't really that hard. You know where the reinforcements are coming from. You know how to slow down the tank. With a little bit of effort into planning your strategy, the map can basically be over before Selvaria even shows up.

We are inevitably going to be bombarded with PSPGO commercials that will show collage of upcoming games such as GT, why wouldn't you include VC2?. It should be a no brainer that this is a perfect game on the go. It will only be a matter of when.

@Sugoi: I've gotten to the 'final' portion, with all radiators blown out, a couple of times. I've tried ~6 times. The first time, the tank's movement after the turn (starting beside the hill where Selvaria comes down) came as a surprise and I ended up to the back of him (dead).

The second time I got stuck in the treads in that same area and was unable to move, ending up in the rear of the other tank.

Bang, dead.

Because of this game and the announcement of Persona 3 remake (never got the chance to play it), I finally bought a used PSP.

It's time for me to catch up on the library of released games :D
