Thats how I always saw it when they first showed off the design.

Why did Sony have to make the Greatest Hits look so disgusting?
I don't buy them simply becuase of how awful they'd look next to my other games.

I was gonna ask about the MGS4 one, think SC4 is also out in more territories now. LBP's plat seems to be delayed to November.

Interesting fact that was mentioned on the PS blog though was that 400k sold was what was enough to make a title platinum.

I only ask because it's different from what I recognize in that if you squint a little, the Helghast looks like a jack-o'-lantern.

@( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake!: They're admittedly rather hideous. Luckily, it's often pretty easy to find a new copy of the original version for the RRP of the Platinum hit.

The lovely design of the platinum boxes is why I own so many second hand games.

Is making them hideously ugly, and consigning the 'proper' edition to the second-hand bin really a good reward for popular games?

@( shake cows, win a ) Milkshake!: yeah, I am totally with you on that. blu-ray and ps3 boxes already look and feel bad enough now and they make it look worse. I will say though that some of the greatest hits are in red and black cases and that is a step in the right aesthetic direction.

ps2 and psp styling they really got it right except of course for the greatest hits stuff.

this is why I am for digital downloads, I don't want those ugly cases in my house they just take up space.

@Crumplecorn: I know exactly what you mean. When I wanted to get Uncharted a new platinum edition was the same price as an older second hand copy but I hated the new design so much I bought the used copy.

@TT: The case itself is grey, not yellow. Printing out a replacement cover takes care of the problem and can be done in about five minutes.

It's a bit annoying, but the result looks good enough and it definitely beats buying either a used copy or nothing at all.

Great, more butt-ugly game covers. Just what I needed. Is this Sony's brilliant idea of making them look more attractive to the customer? Can't they just put a big fat sticker on it that says "PLATINUM"? At least then I can remove it once I've bought the game so I never have to see it again.

@dd528: I did the same with Uncharted because no one had stock. But it worked out for me because the version I bought was the pack in with the 160GB PS3 and had a unused code for Pain in the case.

@BrokenIcarus: I have both. Play Resistance 2 to avoid Killzones graphics from making Resistances seem worse than they are.

R2 is my favorite Sony game so far. I didn't like the first one too much but the sequel was one hell of a game.

I might pick up Motor Storm Pacific Rift some day.

Who gives a Fk what color the box sleeve is. Last time I played a PS3 game it was for the game in the box and not because the color of the sleeve. Must be nice to bitch about the sleeve like its your only worry in life.

So obviously Sony marketing "gives a Fk" what color it is, being that they made the change. It's perfectly acceptable for someone to say "I like this design better than that design." Some of us actually have an eye for balance and aesthetics. No one's saying "I won't buy that game because the platinum cover is ugly," they're saying they won't buy the "platinum" version because the cover is ugly.

I fail to see how anyone's coming across as if it's their "only worry in life." Sarcasm and hyperbole can be fun, but often come across as simply an indicator of poor social skills.

@Sisee: I'm pretty sure CoD4 still sells too well to be made Platinum. The whole point with the range is to boost sales in a second wind once it's dropped below profitable at full price. CoD4 probably still sells to well that profits would go down much more than sales would go up from lowering the price.

Yeah, they could package it in TP rolls, and if I had the choice between that one and a copy in a standard-format package that matches the others on my shelf, I'd opt for the latter. If people find the "platinum" version unappealing, they might be more inclined to look for a used copy with the original packaging, to the financial detriment of the developer/publisher.

I went out of my way to find Burnout Paradise as a non-Greatest Hit and I managed to find one. It was used.
