The First Four Secret World Screens
To compliment our rather extensive preview article, here are the first four screenshots for Funcom’s The Secret World, showing off the more paranormal side of everyday life.
This is pretty much what I was envisioning when I first heard about The Secret World. Folks like you and me facing off against creatures like this and that. I especially like the concrete golem, though I’d hate to meet it in a dark alley. Luckily it probably wouldn’t fit, so we’re safe for now.

@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): Good question, Captain. Seems to have vanished. I'd say it was those pesky (Pirate)s again.
Arrr!
The world reminds me so much of Over the Edge,
[en.wikipedia.org]
Did anyone else play this? I used to love it and Rifts.
I don't think I can actually get into an MMO anymore. Maybe my tastes and lifestyle have changed. I certainly don't have time for it anymore.
It's kind of sad though, I loved Everquest so much, and have such fond memories of it.
I don't think it's just MMO's, I think it's RPG's in general. I used to be so so into them. I'm still drawn to them but I know I seriously don't have that much time to put into a single game right now.

Judging by #1, it could be turn-based. That'd be pretty sweet; I love turn-based RPGs.
hmmm i just dont know. I really hope this will turn out to be stellar. but these screen shots aren't pulling me in.

@Trey: It seems to have vanished, along with the comments I made on it.
DO NOT WANT!
... I mean-
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Sooo, what happened to that preview. This game looks interesting, I'd like to see what you guys think.
The first image is the best, gives you an idea of the type of odds you're up against.

I'm usually NOT an MMO guy, but with everything I've heard about this game, I'm more than willing to make an exception.

Ummm guys? Where did your preview go?
Not bad, you got my attention on this title now. Thanks Kotaku.
Wow.
Wow, image 4 could be a direct lift from one of the L4D campaigns if it was on a more powerful engine.
@Dethgar: You seem to know not enough about these two games to make such comment.
@Pult|Ost - Not Backwards Compatible: Agreed, cant have enough previews and opinions.
I hope that preview get back up again. I'm interested in what your view is.
I spy a game with the same head developer as a certain other graphically arousing MMO, one which failed due to his work ethic and allowing it to get pushed out the door unfinished...
@funcmode: Well when the article returns, your comment will greet the first people to see it after it returns!
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): I wonder where the preview went... If they actually had to remove it for some reason that's quite peculiar. Was right after I commented on it too ;(
@shredmanifesto: You would have thought they would edit this article to say that the Linked To Preview had to be taken down though...
Since the preview has gone and doesn't seem to be immediately coming back, I'll try to say what it said(Tell me if there was a reason you had to remove it, and I'll edit and blank this if you tell me in enough time)...Bah to be safe, I'll edit this to be an Even Poorer approxmination...
So... there's three factions, all fight "the Evil" and each over. There Templars, who are good... but also excessive (burn down whole village for the greater good kinda thing) (they are also based in London), there's the guys who Xantos was a member of, who are sorta bad/megalomaniacal, and based in America. And another group, the Dragon, who seem to be (a) The balance, believing that balance will come from chaos and such, and (b) Are scheming bastards trying to play the other factions. They're based in Korea I think?
All fight "the evil", but all want the top spot after the evil is taken care of...
And let's pretend that's all I remember...
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): Preview wasnt probably supposed to go out yet.
You know, I may actually give it a try, and join the Illuminati as...
David Xanatos!
You know that his game is being made? It's all part of my plan.
Know the Preview is currently down? I planned that.
And know you're reading this comment? Oh yeah, I totally planned that.
@Raziel66: There was some on how the guilds and such worked, and about there being no actual leveling, and it sounded like the gameplay was more action-y but not show how it worked. And oh, it mentioned something about the PVP a bit...
I just wanted to get the Gargoyles Reference in there....
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): Nothing about gameplay though? The descriptions of the organizations could be figured out by their names :/
Raziel66
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): The game is called the Secret World. Obviously, the contents of the preview were supposed to be a secret!
Too bad for those who missed it. The details it contained were enough to make me willing to pay to play.
@'360 Cabinboy (Corsair): No, the old IGN preview says that it is not turn based. It's an action game.
Raziel66
Is that a L4D Tank in the 4th pic?
Funny how every now and then a game appears telling me it's finally time to give in and start playing mmorpgs, just to be quickly forgotten upon release. The set and setting here is very interesting (would be even better with more conspiracy and less demons, but anyway), who knows maybe this will finally convert me.
@Stinkfinger: Its crushing me!
Looks like screen 4 was lifted straight from the No Mercy campaign.
Doesn't that noob know to light the Tank on fire?
Stinkfinger
Sooo, soon as this game is finished up is there any chance Ragnar Tornquist can get to work on a new The Longest Journey game?
I can dream, right?
LaneWinree
@furtin: yo forget the tank, check out those two witches next to him eating that corpse
outforprophets
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair):
Hahaha...
...
Just as planned...!
Blah8
@derFeef: I know Funcom, I know Age of Conan, and I know their policies about the best way to get a big bang for their buck up front.
@Stinkfinger: But seriously, the screens TOTALLY blew my low expectations out the door.
@Stinkfinger: TAAAANK!!
