XBL Avatar Golf Game Is Now Available
Hey, remember the “leaked footage” of the Xbox Live avatar golf game? Mystery solved. It’s available on the Marketplace in the Indie Games channel. Avatar Golf is its name, because, well, it’s golfing with your avatar.
It’s definitely a character-swap game for Easy Golf, as some guessed when the footage was released. The good news is that Easy Golf, by Barkers Crest Studio was a pretty damn fully featured game for an indie download, including six courses and a course editor.
Avatar Golf adds a multiplayer mode that accommodates eight players, and friends can join a round in progress. There are customisable weather effects and backgrounds. And, of course, you get to play as your avatar. It’s 400 Microsoft points.
Playing it myself, the terrain effects are not terribly sophisticated and putting is a little too much on the easy side. Then again, this is a much more casual version of golf, designed to be played among friends.
The trial version is timed, so you’ll be able to play a few holes before the game asks for an unlock.

Tried the trial and really enjoyed it. Still not my favorite Indie Game, though. That honor goes to Zoomaroom, which is absolutely amazing and only a dollar and you should totally buy right now.
Thats incredibly decent sounding for 400 points...somebody must have done this on Wiiware too? I suppose the golf with Wii sports defeats the purpose though.
I bought it, I think it was deffinatly worth the 400 points
Sounds pretty fucking cool. Will have to check it out.
@Talryyn: Seriously these indie game things are getting more awesome by the day. And the prices are superb.
It does sound pretty nifty.....
@excel_excel: It is an easy game to pickup and play, while putting is simple it truly is well done. The course editor is a nice addition as well, and pretty cool.
There are a few Indie games coming out soon..that like this one are shinning examples of what Indie games are all about. (ok supposed to be about, yay for now more massage apps - hopefully anyway)
Talryyn
Might try it, 400 points isn't that bad at all.

@Ur-Lord-Crypy: Love I Mad3 a Gam3 with Zombi3s 1n 1t. That an zoomaroo are great for just 80 points ($1)
I dont normaly bother with the indie games anymor ebecause the amount of garbage massage and fart apps was getting ridiculously like the Iphone app store.
But, Since I went on to buy this I also found quit a few 80 point games that are really cool. Like the new one "I mad3 a gam3 with Zombi3s 1n 1t"
Ur-Lord-Crypy
@Talryyn: wtf do you mean "yay for no more massage apps"?
Are you INHUMAN? e_e
Though I suppose one is enough.
There are no arcade-style golf games that are bad.
This is a fact- there are absolutely NONE that are bad.
@WhiteMage: outlaw golf says hi
I'll stick with Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 for avatar-style golf with much more depth to it.

Pretty sure this is an update of an older Indie golf game, just with added avatar support.
this has been out for a day or 2 now...I dont know...this game is ok at best. I didnt think much of it, including the physics for the game.
Yea this is cool. That avatar drop game is pretty cool too :)

@NoBullet: Pretty sure it's ridiculous when people comment before bothering to read an article smaller than a single page of a book. :\
@Tannrar: Says you. Outlaw golf was great. If you could get past the occasional completely random slices.
Awww.. Jobun gets no love. (or is it Jolan? I can never remember. You two have to get more distinctive usernames!) One of them posted a preview on this game in a TAY recently.
@Ur-Lord-Crypy: I know the guys who made Scallywags on the indie games section (was in the IGN top picks on release week and sold a few thousand copies). It's a fun little turn based strategy title...about pirates. Also the money goes to charity. So I'd say give it a try.
NoHoldsBarred
Downloaded it and I am LOVING the course editor. Ive made a handful of decent courses. Even though its not really an "indie" game, its certainly one of the best ones on the service.
@MrBionic: Kobun. His name is Kobun.

Indie game trials are a joke. There's restrictions (just like a normal demo) but it combines it with a time limit.
I know, some trials have a time limit. But trials that have time limits are usually the full game with a time limit.
But combining time limits with restrictions? That's just stupid.
YayMii
@twinturbo2: Kobun, that's it. I still get him mixed up with Jolan.
@twinturbo2: Insert Fight Club meme.
@Scazza: Yeah, for 400 space bones its pretty good. Im liking that new Avatar drop game more though...lol
@gordiehowe5: "Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2" doesn't cost five dollars like this game does.
KaneRobot
The Indie Games channel is not available in Mexico. :(
I'm thinking about getting this game. Also I recently bought another Indie Game called Avatar Drop for a buck, 80 ms points. Try that out Kotaku.

@excel_excel: Starting in October, Microsoft is phasing out the 800 and 400 price points as well, meaning all Indie Games should at most be $3 which should only help exposure by getting more value conscience people to browse the channel.
Kobun
@Kobun: I was.. uh... going for irony?
@MrBionic: I like how you post that I get no love and simutaneously butcher my name. :p I don't mind or care about credit as I'm just happy to see it get more exposure. :^)
Kobun
@KaneRobot: And it doesn't use your own personal avatar.
DaFron
@YayMii: The games range from $1 to $5. How long does it take to decide if it's worth it?
DaFron
achievements?
@YayMii: It's up to the developer to put in demo restrictions, and the time limit is in place to cover those games created without any sort of trial limitations in mind. Considering you have eight minutes of game time to play with and the ability to play again as often as needed, I really don't see the time cap on the demos being worth complaining about.
Kobun
@MtlAngelus: Well its an avatar golfing game..not really something must would enjoy that much.
I find it interesting that the two top selling Indie Games happen to be Avatar apps.
People are apparently starving to use their Avatars in games.
