Aussie Charts: How’d That New Halo Do?

Halo 3 was a monstrous success for Microsoft. But the release of ODST seemed quite muted in comparison. Let’s find out how it fared in its first week on sale.

Quite well, it seems. Although we haven’t seen press releases declaring it the greatest ever launch of anything ever, as we did with its predecessor, ODST did sell well enough to take top spot on the charts. And 7th spot, too, for the limited edition controller bundle.

Elsewhere, all the recent music games have dropped right out, replaced by a charismatic collection of logic puzzles and a Korean MMO.

All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e September 27:

1. Halo 3: ODST (360)
2. Wii Fit (Wii)
3. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
4. Need For Speed: Shift (PS3)
5. Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box (DS)
6. Wii Play (Wii)
7. Halo 3: ODST Limited Edition (360)
8. Aion: Tower of Eternity (PC)
9. Need For Speed: Shift (360)
10. Mario Kart (Wii)

….Bungie is now considered our gaming gods that shall save our souls from the apocalyptic Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort that plague #1 and #2.

I’m betting it won’t last when that new Wii Fit is released. :(

halo 3 odst was…. not very enjoyable

sure the basic fun combat of halo was there but…

damn if the story hardly makes sense! since you can go to any beacon at any time and get any piece of flashback! and the game never even really tells you whats going on so its confusing as hell!

not only that i hated the environment being so dark and needing that stupid tracing light/beacon. I would much rather a flashlight!

The guys HUD going red for any damage was annoying as hell!

You play as too many characters in a short amount of time so you don’t care about them although its obvious through the fmv’s the game wants you to.

other than that i enjoyed it like the halo 3 expansion it should be recognised as.

finished heroic in about 4-5 hours in one sitting.

None of the Halo games had a story that made sense.

For some reason you criticize any game mentioned on this site… but anyway…

Halo isn’t the most, easy to understand storyline, but it takes a retard who has played all 3 games to not understand the basics.

        That, is probably you.

I’m glad ODST took the number 1 spot i had fears wii fit would somehow have trumped it. Probably will next week though.

My thoughts exactly about Wii titles… funny that they keep topping the charts week in, week out… just where exactly are all the sales coming from would be the key question
would be very funny if it turns out that the charts were rigged

Next key title to look at would be when Wii Fit Plus comes along and attacks the chart… I see MW2 being a fart in the wind along with Forza 3, GT, Fifa 10… where’s an Xbox 360 or PS3 title which that can actually stick to the wall?

I’ll never understand why people care if wii fit is number 1 on the charts. Does it make you feel less “cool” as a gamer because lots of people like games that aren’t about cool Space Marinez with cool guns?

I’d be interested to know how Wii fit compares to other fitness products like pilates videos.

I have a feeling that Wii Fit is more fun than a Pilates video. Is it physically better for you? Probably not.

It’s not that hard to KNOW the answer! Have you seen trailers or pictures of people playing Wii Fit!

        HAH!

So we’ve gone from a very average casual game at #1 to a very average core game at #1… We call this progress?

I wonder what will happen when Uncharted 2 is released? Probably not much as the PS3 has the smallest install base.

I’m still having trouble getting my head around Halo having fun combat. Even after all these years.

    1. Stand behind pillar
    2. Step out, empty clip, soak up damage.
    3. Repeat steps 1 and then 2 as necessary.
    4. Win game.

Do the silly kamakazi method of playing something…
find a proper melee weapon, run towards them and taken them out in one foul blow… don’t forget your grenade throwing skills and not to take yourself out within the same process unless you are going to make a game of it…

Run, stick, jump, grenade jump and land as far as possible, alive or flying carcus

Legendary, any real halo player knows that.

Put it on legendary and theyll flank u and shoot as good as u can, the only way to get through is strategy then not fps skill.

Halos the thinking mans fps.. but only if you have the guts to challenge yourself.

Cod and most fps consist of hiding behind a wall and shooting around the corner .. the AI in halo 2 is better than almost any other fps theyll flank u and attack at once iusing height advantage if they think they can take u, else they will hide.. and its even better in H3 / ODST .. but only if you set it on legendary.

BTW got 1.2 million on firefight last night with 3 friends.. i didnt think i could stand playing any game for 2 hours without a break .. cept halo which is so deep compared to most fps’s. Personally id rather be a gangster in NYC in gta.. but lets face it halos online and gtas are 2 ends of the spectrum. GTA being crap like most games.

ODST got some pretty crap reviews… but I really enjoyed. and firefight is fun like you wouldnt believe. On 2 player co-op legendary, campaign took around 5-6 hours to halfway, but then we finished it with 4 players..which admittedly makes the game alot easier. dreading the thought of a legendary single player attempt though.

Solo Legendary is all that bad.

Only place I had a problem was the ONI Alpha Site.

Other than that, pretty smooth sailing. I really enjoyed ODST for what it was, but really feel that it could’ve been better than Halo 3 if it had gotten a full dev cycle. I know it was jsut something for the Chronicles team to do for 14 months while Reach got going..

But still, I see the potential the game had…

For the love of games can you please start omitting the Wii hardware bundles..

Wii Fit and Wii Play only chart because every 2nd retailer is running a Wii + Wii Fit bundle promotion every other week..

WiiFit is also a console selling title. And WiiFit Plus for under AUS$30 will walk out the door. If you really must, I spose you can put a big green reflective-visored helmet on your Mii for yoga.
