While those of you still running Windows ME may be calling bullshit on the technical barrier of entry to play Modern Warfare 2 on PC, the system requirements for Infinity Ward’s game don’t seem out of whack with what we were expecting. Take a look at the full CPU, GPU and hard disk requirement run down to see if you meet the minimum.
System Requirements
OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 are unsupported)
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor or better supported
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better
DirectX: Microsoft DirectX(R) 9.0c
Hard Drive: 12GB of free hard drive space
Sound: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
Internet: Broadband connection required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet Connection required for activation

Yep, this is why PC gaming is completely inferior to consoles this generation. You want exclusive games, but you don’t want to pay for them. Enjoy your inferior platform for the few years it’s got left… until no developer is willing enough to even make courtesy ports of console games.

Well it would help if developers didn’t make idiot decisions like removing dedicated servers in favour of matchmaking.

Yep… that PC of mine is going to be completely useless when I can no longer play games on it, when all the developers, indie or not, avoid PCs, avoid developing on PCs. If only there was an internet channel on the worthless thing, maybe that would soften the blow a little.

oh yeah, they’res clearly not rampant piracy on consoles, especially the 360; clearly it is only PC users who are so immoral that they pirate a game. oh those cads.
and yes, for an “inferior platform”, at least you can use a mouse to shoot things.

Yeah when companies (activision) stop bending countries over is when there will be a reason to buy the game out right…

I checked out the MW2 Steam pre-order this morning. For Australians, it’s US$89.99. Hardly surprising when you consider what they did with CoD4′s Steam price. It’s like they’re explicitly giving us reasons NOT to buy. Ah well.

I’d rather buy it on steam if it has online activation crap anyway. hopefully it will be on special one weekend soon. got COD5 for cheap only a bit after launch.

Just remember that Bobby Kotick hates you all: http://www.geeks.co.uk/7282-activision%E2%80%99s-bobby-kotick-hates-developers-innovation-cheap-games-you/comment-page-1
He’s got his wish: The chance to gouge people hard at retail, even if it’s just Australians.

US$89.99 is a complete insult. I won’t be giving Activision any money for this game now. If they want to be the new EA, so be it.

The only Steam prices Valve has ANY control over is for Valve games (and in this regard, they’ve been generous). For the rest of the Steam library, it’s the PUBLISHERS who set price. To my knowledge, it’s only ACTIVISION who have been such A$$HOLE$ with Steam pricing for non-Americans. Direct your anger at Activision, not Valve.

PC, 360, PSP, NDS, PSP, and even WIi owners pirate.
Report PermalinkIts not going to change if you all you guys do is debate about it. Stop piracy by reporting it to the police, by havign your friends buy a game instead of downloading. Not by arguing about whats better [Pc or console] on Kotaku.

Exactly.. the only platform safe from piracy ATM is the PS3.. maybe every game should be a PS3 exclusive to avoid lost sales?..
Devs should definatley ignore all those other markets cause a small percentage of sales might be lost to pirates..
If you think the PC will die because of piracy then you are simply an ignorant tool..

The police don’t care in the slightest. All those dodgy bootleg shops in Sydney and Melbourne continue to sell pirated CDs and DVDs despite local companies, who own the rights, having constantly provided evidence to the police and the relevant government departments.

Casual gamers and people in general are dumb and idiotic. They are naive and believe everything they hear from these money grubbing companies.
Compare the cost of piracy and the PROFIT of these games. Piracy is miniscule compared to the millions and millions of dollars they make.
They just using piracy as an EXCUSE to charge your naive and gullible ass and you know what(looking at console gamers) you all deserve it.
