Dammit, we want you to tell us stuff! Stuff like your most hated game character.
This isn’t some marketing survey or whatever. It’s an emotional investment in you. Yes, we’re interesting in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know fucktons about us — more than you even want to, we’re sure. But, hey, we’d like to know about you, too.
Anyway, here’s today’s question…
Have you ever played a game that you liked, but you just couldn’t stand the main character? Or is that enough to turn you right off the whole game? Who’s the worst character you’ve played in a game, and why?
Me? As tempting as it might be to rattle off a list of Final Fantasy games, the punchability of Cloud, Squall, Tidus, etc is just another reason why I’m not a fan of the series – not the only reason. No, wait… let me take that back. I really hated Tidus.

In red/blue + remakes, they wouldn’t join Team Rocket, even when given the choice.

I’m gunna be a black sheep here, but plain and simply I’ve never hated any video game character that wasn’t deliberately designed to be annoying or hated (bad guys.)
NEVER
Any of those characters you hate cause they’re whiny teenagers and stuff (it was tl:dr but I saw Tidus and Raiden written a few times) I don’t hate them or find them annoying. Their traits are designed and written for them to be that way and their backgrounds and context make them feel and act the way they do. The only characters I ever found annoying were enemies that got in my way and ‘the irritating sidekick/comic relief’ But killing the enemy or doing what the sidekick says shuts them up.
You may think I’m giving excuses but I find that my enjoyment and immersion in games with all types of characters is more when I run that extra thought process to understand why things are the way they are.
