Yep, we know you’re all experiencing problems with the new matchmaking system built into Modern Warfare 2. Maybe it’s working OK for US gamers, but it has been a nightmare for any Aussies trying to join a game without being killed by lag. So what to do?
Until Infinity Ward comes up with a better solution, your best bet is to create private matches filled exclusively with fellow Aussies. But maybe not everyone has a friends list long enough to do this whenever you want to play. So let’s help each other out.
In the comments below, I want you to leave your relevant gamertag or ID on whichever platform(s) you play. Hopefully we can make it just that little bit easier to enjoy shooting each other in the face.
Note: I’ll leave this post pinned to the top of the front page all day. Or longer, if it proves really popular. all weekend.

Just as Ren said.. I haven’t had any lag problems.. once or twice i’ve had a single red bar which was easily fixed by leaving and rejoining a different game..
Once or twice out of 16 hours of gameplay is fine with me.. oh.. i’m on ADSL 1..

Sure private matches are a good idea, but if a lot more aussies play at any given time they would be a more likely candidate for being the host…instead of Americans.
Also realised theres no way to invite friends into a current match (ingame or lobby), kinda sucks.

To be honest, the only day that I had no lag (without relaying on friends who were in green bar games already) was when I got it at the Midnight Launch. After that, everytime I search, I get a Yellow Bar game.
The Yellow Bar games are ok and I’m ok with playing them. It’s just the red bar games that piss me off.

I only have it on pc, so:
Steam ID: sonic0491
City: Adelaide.
I get quite a bit of lag even though I’m on ADSL 2+, just under 1 k from server!
Basically if I get less than MAX ping bar in a COD WM2 match im F*****D! other than that its a pretty good game.
Whats with the cheap as looking menu pages though?… minor complaint ^^

How is this a good idea?
It matchmakes by lowest ping… If your friends list is scattered all over Australia then most of you are going to have terrible latency.
Most of the PC matches I’ve played have been pretty good.

So sick of getting put with agro americans. I’m a noob, but they are just so stupid! I’d more likely get a decent KDR on a laggy match with americans than with a less laggy match with australians.
And why is it that whenever you’re in a good game, lag-wise, and the host changes, they always pick the american, even though there might be more australians? Gah!

so anyone tried LAN yet,
Report PermalinkIm planning to have a few people over a play some lan games, . Is setting up for a small game as easy as the last 2 COD’s. Im worried due to steam. L4D, and alot of other steam games were easy to setup on a lan, but then again, they all had a dedicated server, and didnt require everyone to be using my internet usage. Does COD:MW2 work offline?

What a group of us have been doing is we all get together in a private lobby so we can get the numbers together. Then, when its full, one guy leaves and starts a public lobby. Then everyone joins as quickly as possible to fill the lobby with Australians.
Worked like a charm two nights ago, but last night we were trying it and, before the game would start, we would watch half our players leave the lobby. We thought they were quitting, but when they returned they told us they were pulled out of our lobby and thrown into another game and each of them had red dot connections.
Happened three times like this until we gave up.
So, will see what happens tonight.
From what I understand you dont rank up in private games, which is why we are trying to do publics.
Matchmaking has NEVER been kind to Australians. And Im sure it hasnt been kind to many other countries too.
