Tell Us Dammit

Kotaku AU

Dammit, we want you to tell us stuff! Stuff like your secret gaming shame.

This isn’t some marketing survey or whatever. It’s an emotional investment in you. Yes, we’re interesting in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know enough about us — more than you even want to, we’re sure. But, hey, we’d like to know about you, too.

Anyway, here’s today’s question…

No one can play every game. No one has the time. But what one game fills you with the most shame to admit that you’ve never played? Not even once.

Me? I suspect my gamer credentials could be drawn into question with the admission I’ve never played World of Warcraft. I’ve seen other people play it – my housemate plays it all the time – but I’ve never once myself ventured into the MMO world of Azeroth. I feel OK about that, though. The years it apparently takes to get anywhere in WoW are surely better served playing, you know, all the other games out there.

I’ve been a gamer for 20 years and have never, ever played or even seen WoW.

Oh and Counter Strike, never played that either…

Any of the Final Fantasy series. Ever. But…that shit doesn’t interest me in the slightest. So, I feel no shame.

@Crono…I wrote the above and then looked up and saw your response. Similar mindset, different games.

I’ve never played any Call of Duty game. Ever. Technically that doesn’t count, as I’m not in the least ashamed.

I have never played any Animal Crossing game. I’d say I am ashamed of that. I don’t think I’ve ever met another gamer whoadmits to a few guilty hours doing…. whatever it is you do in Animal Crossing. I’ve also never played any of the Mother/Earthbound games either.

Add animal crossing to my list too, and also any non-tennis sports game.

Don’t feel bad about WoW it’s a crappy game, it just has mass appeal it’s like the Wii sports of PC gaming, only people play it more than once a month.

My gaming shame, where to start? Half-life (the wrost part is i played it for 5 minutes then quit) Half life 2 etc. L4FD, team fortress, any COD game, any total war game, the original fallouts, Metal Gear solid, final fantasy, God of War, every fighting game except DoA3, thief, psychonaughts any racing franchise besides project Gotham. And untill recently Bioshock, which I still don’t find that interesting. Also I suspect it would tarnish my credibility if people knew that I had played and finished the game “keepsake” seriously, play it and revel in the awful voice-acting.

KOTOR. Coming from an RPG and Star Wars freak, that’s pretty shameful.

    Any Zelda game.

Considering Ocarina of Time is usually considered the best game of all time, it’s rather shameful that I consider myself a gamer.

Another one for Ocarina of Time here. The worst bit is I even went to the trouble of finding a second hand copy of Windwaker on eBay that came with the ‘Cube port of OoT to see what I was missing out on, and I’ve still never even booted either game up…

There are quite a few classics that I have never played but probably the biggest omission is anything from the Final Fantasy series.

I also missed out on any Metal Gear Solid as well. I was thinking about picking up MGS4 on the platinum range but I feel that would be like only watching the last couple of seasons of Lost.

There are many others but the list might get a bit too long.

    Psychoauts

    Bioshock

    System shock (and it’s sequel)

    Professor llayton games

All of the legend of zelda series – i own several but havent gotten around to playing them

I’ve never played any modern style MMO, but did play text MUD in the 90s.

I’ve also never played a game on the PS2 or gamecube, it’s only online which attracted me back to consoles.

I’ve played most popular online shooters from Doom to QIII/UT, skipped from then on to pick it up again with the 360. The only exception is SoF, I never played CS.

Never played any Zelda or Mario game (except the brick Gameboy Mario, for about 3 lvls), never played any CoD or the last ep of HL2 which I really should to wrap it up.

I have to say I am not ashamed to have never played any game on the DS and Wii.

    Never played:

    Any Final Fantasy
    WoW

but I feel no shame for those. The only ones I feel shame for are:

    Shadow Of Colossus
    Ico
God of War 1 and 2

luckily the last two will be rectified with the new version for the PS3.

Many of the above mentioned. And I’ve got Mass Effect sitting in the cupboard just waiting to be installed and played. And now that I have a 4 week old son I’m thinking I’m not going to get enough time to play it any time soon.
