Tell Us Dammit

Kotaku AU

Dammit, we want you to tell us stuff! Stuff like what gaming gifts did you receive today?

This isn’t some marketing survey or whatever. It’s an emotional investment in you. Yes, we’re interesting in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know enough about us — more than you even want to, we’re sure. But, hey, we’d like to know about you, too.

Anyway, here’s today’s question…

Obvious one, really. What game-related gifts did you receive today?

Me? Well, since I’m writing this on Christmas Eve (What? You really think I’m working today?) I actually don’t know. I suspect none, considering my family and friends realise I probably already have any games or consoles I would want. But who knows? Maybe someone will finally get me that Japanese Sega Saturn I’ve been craving… Or maybe not.

Me and my brother combined got Modern Warfare II and Dragon age for PC, and Disgaea II for the PSP. Also grabbed a heap of good deals on steam: STALKER, the Penumbra pack, R6 Vegas 2, World of Goo and Evil Genius (have the game but lost the play disc XD).

Pity i wont be able to play most of this as i’m in holiday in NZ with only a netbook to play on (which was an early present itself)

so yeah a good haul 8D

Dragon Age Origins, and also The Force Unleashed… I know a bit late, but it’s one of those games that looked really good before it came out, but then I read some reviews and got turned off it… but I still wanted to lightsabre me some bitches.

I also got a gift card for JB and some cash, I think I’m gonna get Demon’s Souls or Assassin’s Creed 2… hell maybe both, but another game I’ve been wanting to play since it came out but waited too long was Chronicles of Riddick, I loved the original but never played Dark Athena :(

Oh well, oh, and I guess this counts my family bought a joint early present (that’s why I only got small stuff), a 46 inch Bravia. Games have never looked so… big?

Only gaming gift I got this year was the Dungeons and Dragons 4e box set. I’ve never played D&D before, anyone got any pointers?

(I also got a few CDs – Fever Ray and Sharing Spaces by Cog – and a book on painting from the imagination. So happy!)

Find a bunch of nerds who’ll be happy to drag you along for long enough to bring you up to speed, then use a Fire spell to kill em all and run.

And hence, even though my ripoff of D&D, I actually would love a full kit. Lucky.

The beginner modules are a good place to start. I ran some friends (and my wife – her first D&D experience) through Keep on the Shadowfell. It’s simple enough and good D&D fun :)

If you like D&D check out a game called Neverwinter Nights, It’s an RPG by Bioware (the same guys that made Dragon age and Mass effect). That utilises the D&D rules and is based on the D&D game, so you can play characters like lawfull good, or chaotic evil. The good thing is you can find the original game and all its expansions for like $30 at EB.

The only game I picked up for Christmas was inFamous. I bought a PS3 about 3 months ago and am slowly picking up all the decent exclusives (360 is still my main machine). I did get a couple of gift cards though, so I’ll use them in the post-Christmas sales.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what games I actually want at the moment – I picked up most of the latest games in all the pre-Christmas sales from EB etc. At least I’ve got a stack to work my way through over holidays though!

Best thing about being a gaming parent? Legitimised ‘gift’ purchases. Including a 2nd Ps3+COD4+COD WaW+DBZ Raging Blast+GTA4, an X360+controller+2games, and also now $400 of Gift Vouchers already intended towards new release games at Boxing Day sales. Any suggestions?

Get any Ratchet and Clank game, seriously not only are the games really really good, but they aren’t your typical kids only games, they are the kind of games you actually can play with kids, still have fun and still find challenging. Or if the kids have enough games get MW2, Uncharted 2, Assassins creed 2.

Sam and Max Season 1, and Sins of a Solar Empire which came without a manual, tech tree poster or serial code for online play so I’m taking it to get replaced tomorrow morning. I hate when stuff isn’t there when it’s supposed to be.

A Eb Games voucher, plus a lot of money. I’m probably also going to get a PS3 to go with my brand new LCD. It has an inbuilt iPod dock so I can blast the ‘tunes while I game.

It’s late, but Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Yeah…..Santa doesnn’t get it at all. I got some much needed cuttlery, including steak knives. Practical, but not much fun to be had there. Some butter cookies, I guess you could put them in a cdrom drive for the luls…?

Then I spy a box with me name…. Perhaps it has 2 AAA titles in it, perhaps. Then the box comes to me, and feels oddly heavy for some video games. I shake it a little and the jostling clicks put away any hope of games. Balls. Pardon me, billiard balls. Very nice balls I mush say, a little campish tho as they are filled with glitter.

Yeah… You know your old when you get butter cookies and knives.

Santa can shove it up his ho ho *ho-ld on, I’ve misplaced my xmas spirit.

As for gaming goods I unwrapped a copy of the God of War Collection and Borderlands – a couple of games I got this week in the mail, I knew I wouldn’t get a chance to play them til after xmas so I gifted them from Santa. Was still a bit of a surprise, didn’t notice it came with the GoW3 demo. Got my gf a plush Phantom Hourglass Link & a copy of Hakuna Matata/Afrika, regardless of the reviews, she likes photography, animal documentaries and getting stressed, this game should help with all of that.

No gaming gifts for me this year. Am staying with my parents and they don’t believe that a 39 year old man should invest time/money in videogames ;) That said, the $100 they gave me for my birthday is going towards Bayonetta on Jan 7th!

I did buy myself a Bioshock 2 Big Daddy figurine though, so that might count….

I got the Gears of War graphic novel, and PS3 Assassin’s Creed II, black edition.
I’ve known about Assassin’s Creed for ages and it’s been sitting in our cupboard begging me to play it.
Now that its finally mine I haven’t had a chance to play it…I bought my husband Demon’s Souls for Christmas. *facepalm*
