What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Kotaku AU

I expect many of you will be playing whatever new games you got for Christmas. Meanwhile, I’ll be enjoying the apocalypse thanks to an early review copy of Darksiders.

I’ll also be installing the preview code of Stalker: Call of Pripyat that landed on my desk just before I left the office for the holidays. And maybe I’ll have time to find out just how much Rapture has changed in the years between BioShock and its upcoming sequel.

How about you?

I’ve been playing the God of War collection since I never got to play the original titles on the PS2. I’ve gotta say that despite it’s age, the game holds up remarkably well visually.

Time to finish the pro-registrataion side on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 this weekend i think.

Though now that i have 10 days til i head back to work, i will be be investing a lot of time into the games i haven’t had time to play. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 are at the top of the list. I might also attempt investing in an uncensored copy of Left 4 Dead 2.

I’ve just finally completed Batman Arkum Asylum’s Story mode, but i’m still swinging about determined to hunt down every last Riddler trophy. I haven’t been this addicted to a game for quite a while.

But as of 4am tomorrow (sunday morning) i’ll be taking the 8 hour drive to Adelaide with my lovely Girlfriend to spend a week with her relatives, so i won’t have much time for gaming unfortunately. Although i have remained optimistic and dragged my DS along for the time away.

I’m quite keen to hear what Darkstalkers is like past that initial hour. Very much looking forward to your feedback Mr. Goose.

Remember try not to binge too much on games while you’re on your break as you may have to end up going to Gamer Rehab – and we all know how costly that “vital” service is =)

Firstly, damn you Wildgoose and your early War gaming. I trust that ChaosEater feels fine to wield. Our eldest is trying to find his best mate on GTA4, who for some reason is not showing up in-game. Meanwhile getting invites for MW2 from friends, but I want to take advantage of/abuse the Uncharted dbl points weekend. The Dantes Inferno may well get another run-thru- 2010 sure looks like a fine year for next gen beaters, TBH God of War 3 demo looks less impressive than both Bayonetta AND Dante so far…

My XBox just red ringed about 3 hours ago, so I’m going to finally boot up InFamous I think. Shame, I just got a copy of AC2 as well. :(

I’m playing GH5 since I snagged the RB full instrument set yesterday at the sales. It’s pretty fun, but the drums are kind of unresponsive. Still a steal for the price I got.

You can download a drum tuning app on your PC through Activision. Although to use it you’ll need the MIDI-USB cable which is tricky to obtain in Australia. There used to be a link on Red Octane’s site but apparently now you have to ask them for it via http://guitarhero.custhelp.com/

Oh wait, you’re using the Rock Band drums? Don’t think there’s all that much you can do with those, sorry.

Thanks for your help, anyway. I’m pretty sure they’ll just loosen up with time. The guitar and mic are perfect, though. And it’s alright, no need to apologize.

I got the games that were on my wishlist for some time.. Fallout 3 GOTY, Mass Effect & C&C 3 Tiberium Wars. By the time I get through those we could really be into a post-apocalyptic future. :)

I enjoyed wasting Death with his own blade in Dante’s Inferno demo. The rest of my game time has consisted of loving/hating Machinarium.

So did I. It’s awesome how the blade has that hinge that moves to turn the scythe into a spear and a sort of halberd. I thought the Holy Blast attacks with the cross were too overpowered, though, there didn’t seem to be any visible cooldown system that I noted.

    I’m playing nothing.
Apparently I’m last in the gaming pecking order when everyone’s on holidays.
Seeing as I’m the cook and I’m never on holidays I’m almost considering dosing their food with sleeping pills so I can get my turn. Almost.

Wildgoose a quick question for you – which version of Darksiders are you playing? Xbox or PS? If both – which version is better in your opinion and why?

I’ve only played the 360 version, so I can’t really comment.

Going through Vagrant Story, having just grabbed it off PSN. This game was great before, but now that I’m older and actually understand how it works, the battle system is even better than I remembered. It helps that this is the first time I turned on the messages for the equipment status changes, because I never knew how the affinities worked until now.
And damn, Sydney is still one of the best villains ever. I just wish the other games set in Ivalice were half as interesting.

Vagrant Story is one of my favourite games of all time. Even though I have it on disc and play it again every few years I’m tempted to buy it on PSN so I can have portable Vagrant Story goodness on my PSP.

    @ Swearing Bullets

Just use a guide video on the web. It’ll be boring, but it’s basically free achievement points. This is pretty much what collecting items like intel and collectibles around the game world has become for me, a chore. Especially with free-world games, there is often no challenge, most notably Prototype and Spiderman: Web of Shadows. I liked the Audio Logs in ODST however since they actually gave you an insight into Sadie’s Story.

Just finally starting to get into my holidays so I’ve decided to do some gaming catch up: Shadow of the Colossus, Flower and InFamous for me. Also a Platinum on AC2 would be lovely.

This is one of the most linear games i have ever played. Square has put the focus solely on the story.

The game does open up towards the end but up until then (which is around 30 hours, at least) you are in a pipe running from enemy to boss fight to cut scene to boss fight

Expect people to call this Final Fantasy XIII: Metal Gear Solid 4 edition because teh amount and length of cut scenes, while beautiful, is bordering ridiculous.

That said, i still stand by my comment that the game is awesome but the FF purists are going to want to destroy Square Enix. Final Fantasy 1 through 7 this is not.

Well, I Was going to play the copy of MW2 I got for xmas, however my xbox decided to red ring just intime. So I will either play Ghostbusters ( which was gifted to me for xmas over steam ), Bioshock for old times sake, or Vampire the Masquerade because it’s awesome.
